Wrestling UWW World Olympic Qualifier 2024

Recommended Posts

so ... Russia won't have 6 Greco wrestlers in Paris anyway. Visaitov lost the repechage to Koshkar (KAZ)

today is the day for M. El-Sayed so far, Etlinger didn't show up. (which was great for the Egyptian, going to the next round without wasting energy) he won the next match in 2 minutes. looks fresh and ready, still needs 2 more win for the quota.

It's totally Ukrainian thing with Alina Hrushyna (Akobiia), Tetiana Sova-Rizhko, Anastasiia Osniach-Shustova and finally Alina Berezhna Stadnik Makhynia

Final Qualifier having lots of upsets, Nikolova losing to :CUB and then Cuban leading in QF by a huge margin losing by fall at the end to :UZB was big in 57kg and faces :BRA in SF .we also lost :PRK Jong In Sun in same category.

:GERWendle was unlucky in 53kg I felt.

Top half in 76kg went against my expectations but yeah heavy wrestlers and most of them are close by in terms of levels.

Rest almost all were according to plans. Nesrin Bas :TUR qualified for 62kg semis on own merit, she is a European medallist in 72kg earlier this year. Not an easy weight cut.

Bisultanov is officially out of the Olympics

he gassed very badly in the 2nd period, feel sorry for him, obviously he is not recovered from his last season injury. better luck in LA 2028

and Kessidis could kill someone today :d he was very angry at refs and I think he was right somehow. the officiating could be better.

And this is why you don't wait until the last damn time to get a quota. :wall: Get it early, because stuff like this always happens in last chance tournaments. Nikolova got a big head after her success in the last couple of years and fumbled so much in the past 10 months..

Sadly Nikolova recently is acting more like a model in her instagram posts then anything close to professional athlete. I am not surprised. Hopefully today Yaneva and Mimi Hristova will succeed and get the quotas with today's matches for :BUL.

    • This is going to have an effect on very likely 0 athletes, possibly 1 or 2 we don't really know about yet. It's really mostly the cheapest possible way for them to make a sort of political statement, without having any significant backlash since it won't really affect anyone at the top level of international sports.   Edit: worded a bit wrong, I was thrown off by everywhere 'trans women' being mentioned as the target of this. Of course there is also the somewhat larger category of DSD and the likes, which will certainly affect a few athletes - unfortunately they are often thrown under the bus or mentioned as 'not really women anyway' or something like that, despite, you know, being.

    • People focus on trans people because it's easier to pinpoint the affected athletes. Meanwhile it's the athletes with (suspected) DSDs that will have tougher time to convince the authorities and the public opinion that they belong to women's sports.
