It feels like every sport here has its own F’d up problem, here it’s Sexual abusing other have the infamous Drug abusing I seriously cannot understand it and it’s really pissing me off :hairpull:

The problem is that it is not sexual abuse, which is criminal, but allegations of various forms of emotional tactics which may or not be abusive.  I doubt they would seen as abusive in 99% of male sports.

Certainly if NZ female gymnasts feel that the Commonwealth Games are too stressful for them, then perhaps they should be looking at other, less damaging, career options.

Nile Wilson has become the newest high profile athlete to make allegations of abuse. He claims UK Sport/UK Gymnastics has perpetrated a culture of abuse.

Having followed his journey since Rio (he’s a vlogger on YouTube), and some of the dark parts of his career, it wouldn’t shock me to know that there is an abusive culture at UK Gymnastics. Unfortunately, I think almost every NF has these issues, and it comes down to the culture of the sport. People inside gymnastics will have to be willing to change their behavior, or we’ll just see this cycle repeat once more.

More accusations, now from two female British gymnasts.

Most of the accusations seem almost ridiculous, like being given controlled portions for meals and feeling pain from stretching. I mean, if you're gonna complain about these things, then change sports, go to modern pentathlon or something.

However, one of the girls complains about being slapped and this is serious, of course.

I feel like we might be underestimating modern pentathlon if we're thinking there are no diet restrictions and stretching pains :d

Although to be fair, if true, this is not exactly a good way to treat young children neither...the obsession of these coaches to call every child fat.

She alleges that when she was nine years old, Reddin "came over, sat beside me, grabbed my side, pulled it out really hard. She told me I was too fat, and then told me I needed to go on a diet, which obviously was very upsetting.

Well, if girls don’t want to be questioned about their weight perhaps they should concentrate on sports where it is less of an issue, like rugby.

Ah yes, that makes it normal to call 9-year old girls fat to their faces. There's a difference between finding a decent way to tell young kids that, if they want to be succesful in this sport, they do need to keep an eye on their physique, and just outright calling them fat. People who can't find the right way of dealing with that are not supposed to be coaching kids.

This is turning into nitpicking at this point. So tired of people insisting on hearing the right syntax all the time, rather than focusing on semantics. It's like those people who insist on hearing "I love you" all the time, even when their spouse is sending the exact same message with their actions alone.

Coaches who say those things surely don't wake up every morning with an intention to make their athletes miserable. We can all agree that a sport like gymnastics requires a certain body type, and calling someone "fat" is just one of the ways of sending such message. Obviously it is not the most tactful way, but quite straightforward.

Is telling someone they are overweight in 20 sentences really that much better than being upfront about it? My concern here is - people will hear what they want to hear either way.

And the British gymnasts did it again: another round of accusations about things that are hardly shocking.

This time, Ellie Downie accused a nutritionist of making her feel bad because the woman advised her to lose weight. She mentioned she started having body issues, especially after the nutritionist asked her to send pictures on a daily basis showing her progress on her diet.

Honestly? The British girls are really, really pissing me off.

Crystal generation. They want all the glory and glamour without the sweat and pain.

    • I still remember how Demi Moore swept the Razzies for Striptease almost 30 years ago and she won Golden Globes now? The acting industry must be short on talent, scripts or everything else   This being said I don't really watch too many new TV shows these days least of all those Marvel/DC action hero stuff that has taken over in the last decade plus. I know it's a box office gold mine but completely not my taste.
    • Yeah, Anora has been really hard for me to place in my personal rankings. It's a fun and enjoyable film for the most part, but it didn't quite generate the same awe or excitement from me that a few others have this season. Still, I was quite shocked to see Madison lose yesterday because she did a deliver a phenomenal performance in my opinion.    The best actress "race" still feels rather open to me, which adds a bit of suspense to each body's nominations.
    • Anyone remember that  athlete in a European Champs who was given a false start, then protested and got a re-run?  And then false-started twice.   Was kind of like that.
    • Justin Trudeau has resigned as party leader and will resign as prime minister of Canada once the Liberal Party choses a new leader. Once a new leader in selected there will likely be elections shortly after.
    • I'm not surprised. Colturi seems to be trending in the right direction (duh) and the rest of the Italian women's team is nowhere except veterans Brignone and Goggia. The Delagos have regressed badly for whatever reason and even Bassino has kinda stalled despite still being in her prime. The shit will soon hit the fan but it's probably to late before the next OG. It would be ridiculous if Albania wins more medals in alpine skiing than Italy
    • The regular season is over. Tennesse Titans get #1 overall pick for the 2025 draft after NE Patriots beat the Buffalo Bills back-ups on the last day.   Mike Evans (Buccaneers) ended his 11th season with 11th mark of 1,000 receiving yards which ties Jerry Rice's all-time record. Bucs needed to run one more play to get him 5 yards he needed instead of kneeling down a game they had won already.   Wild Card Schedule:   My picks: Chargers, Ravens, Bills, Eagles, Commanders, Vikings

    • Few observations from the Globes.   Nikki Glaser had a nice opening monologue, but everything afterwards was bad. Plus i don't know what the make-up people did to her face, but i thought i was watching a wax figure.. But she changed 10 dresses showing us more of her cleavage, so that was a plus i guess.    This was probably not only the worst Globes, but probably one of the worst major award ceremonies in structure and writing... Everything was so awful... - None of the presenter skits worked and many were just cringe; - The weird camera angles, that widened around the presenters completely showed the audience not giving any fucks about what they were saying and some hiding their facepalms even. I was specifically watching in the background, since in these award shows we only get the camera in the presenters face against the screen, so this was new, but i was astonished how little the people were paying attention.    - Not showing barely any clips, or even images from the movies / series (sadly this has become a modern tradition to "save time") - The idiotic showing of the nominees. Not only without images from their performances, but them in a small picture on the side, while the screen was a damn Google Map with an arrow on their placement. Like WHO CARES where they sit in the room, show the person on the full screen... Morons.   About the winners:   - Like pretty much all winners on the movie side, with the exception of Emilia Perez, which i don't like at all and don't think it deserves awards.. - Especially happy for The Brutalist and Fernanda Torres;   - Anora was being hyped so much. Watched it, absolutely hated the first half, picked up greatly in the second, but in the end an above average film 7/10 for me. Not getting anything yesterday was a bit surprising if you'd followed the race, but not saying i'm sorry for it. Madison did a great performance, but her stocks are falling for an Oscars win and she will probably settle for only the Nom.   - Ariana Grande does a nice job in fooling people, that she is a good singer (which she is not) and now that she is a good actress (which she is not). Someone is getting screwed if she gets an Oscars Nom..   - Pissed that they didn't have the DeMille and Burnett awards on the main show, because of "time", but we now have the nonsense Box Office and Stand-Up comedy awards.. Everyone would have preferred a tribute to Davis and Ted Danson with a recap of their careers, rather than 30 minutes of useless stuff.   On the TV side it was pretty much as expected. Stoked for Colin Farrell's win.
