Men's Volleyball FIVB Olympic Qualification Tournaments 2023

Recommended Posts

Good luck to Cuba in the VNL. Serbia is technically reachable, but like Canada in the women they are going to need to defeat a few top teams.

:CZE d. :QAT 3-1 (25-27, 28-26, 25-23, 25-21)

:BRA defeats Italy to grab the second quota, joining :GER in qualifying for the Olympics

Pool B (Tokyo, Japan)

:FIN d. :EGY 3-2 (25-12, 20-25, 20-25, 25-22, 15-13)

:TUR d. :TUN 3-0 (25-13, 25-22, 29-27)

:JPN and :USA had already qualified yesterday, so there was nothing to play for in terms of Olympic tickets.

Pool C (Xi’an, China)

:BUL d. :BEL 3-2 (25-21, 23-25, 21-25, 25-22, 15-13)

For World Ranking quotas, :ARG:SLO:ITA are pretty much safe, with :CUB and :SRB battling it out for the final quota.

:EGY has essentially qualified for Africa.

Belgium participated in 1968; the did not qualify but replaced Romania that withdrew.

    • There will be specialized double sculls...just not for an NOC if it is entering singles specialists.   Either enter 2 singles specialists, or 1 XD specialist pair.   But they can in theory compete in both events, I guess, if they qualify...our top M, I think, does both.   But there are 17M, 17W, and 30 Pairs allotted in the quota, so I don't think the intent is that every singles entry will be in doubles.   (Perhaps this gets to fall in line with Weightlifting, where due to max entry quota, an NOC can't enter in every event, even if they have the best athletes...here, unless you have a pair who qualifies in both.)
