"A breakaway international governing body for boxing is set to be announced tomorrow by a group of National Federations tomorrow in a bid to save the sport's place on the Olympic programme.

A group of countries, led by the United States and Great Britain, will officially confirm they are quitting the International Boxing Association (IBA), led by Russia's Umar Kremlev, to launch a new organisation called "World Boxing".

An online briefing is due to be staged by tomorrow and will be attended by four "boxing leaders" with representatives from USA Boxing and GB Boxing joined by a group of European countries.

They are promising to make a "major global announcement regarding the future of Olympic boxing".

"Four boxing leaders will be available to answer questions about this worldwide development which is designed to secure boxing's on-going place at the heart of the Olympic Movement and deliver a better future for the sport," read a statement from the organisers."

the distribution of the future Olympic medals between the USA and GBR has started.

I do really hope that the IOC will get rid of this farce that's become OLympic boxing.

Considering the IOC is backing the new group, I’m sure they’ll be alright for the moment

I can’t see them backing them for long once Putin demands they do not.

This boxing situation might actually escalate into the entire Paris Olympics being cancelled. In fact, that is extremely likely!

Do you think France might be completely cancelled? And if it was there would a really nice ocean between Belgium and Spain where you could hold Olympic surfing instead of having to go to Tahiti.

IBA announced the 2024 Women's World Championships will be held in Astana, Kazakhstan. Gold medallists will receive 200k US dollars so it's 100% raise from the 100k prize at the last WCh in New Delhi. Money is always one thing that could make athletes reconsider the potential boycott...

    • Imoco's squad is getting older, and it will be increasingly difficult to win the Champions League, while other Italian clubs don't have much money. In a next year, Turkey will have three super-strong clubs in the Champions League and Italy will only have Imoco, which has retained its core squad, but it's getting older: Wołosz, de Gennaro and Zhu won't be better than before. I fear this was Italy's last chance for Champions League win for many years.

    • Oh, and he also spoke badly of the Brazilian organization at the last world championship, even saying that the athletes contracted fleas, haha. It's brave to say that when the main Brazilian player is on the team and to think that Brazilians will accept it calmly.    It didn't take long for the apology to come (they even did it in Portuguese).
    • Yeah, was noticed and corrected on Day 2.
    • What about Day 2 though? Were the markings correct that day? Because I am still blown away by Mawdsley’s 48.34     I am guessing though it was mainly only affecting the first leg runners?
    • well, those splits were actually suspect   now we know they weren't reliable at all
    • Stories emerging that on Day 1, the track was wrongly marked.  Specifically the start marks for Lane 3 on the 4x400m meant that runners were running short distance.  Don't know what is going to be done, but presumably WA must stand by the results, although any records set will be scrubbed.
