Artistic Gymnastics FIG World Championships 2022

A bit of an underwhelming qualification score from :GBR. 252.793 is less than they achieved in both the Europeans 255.827/254.295 and at the Commonwealths 254.55. On the upside, GBR did finish ahead of both USA and China and hopefully there is room for improvement in the final.

15.700 for :CHN ZOU Jingyuan in PB (9.2E), hard to see a score like this nowadays.

Despite that, China wasn't great (for their level) and maybe won't win a quota in the final.

Hall and Regini-Moran both had falls on the HB and unusually I think Joe Fraser did on the PH as well, although it hasn't prevented him from leading in the AA. China and the the US also made mistakes so they all have scope for improvement. It will be interesting to see how Japan do later on.

So :JPN appears to be the heavy favorites to win men's team event? Russia isn't here and the other big rival China flopped in the qualifying.

Big surprises today!

:TUR not making team finals is a HUGE upset. Some would even say they could have gotten a medal!

And a gymnast from :JOR made it to the PH final! AMAZING!!!

    • Weightlifting formula is more or less similar to 2020 which was considered terrible by everybody!    this is a tough sport, you can't be in your best shape for too many events. there will be risks of serious injuries this way. with these rules you need 5 good results to qualify. if you bomb out in an event to score a zero you are out of the Olympics unless you replace it with another event. which means most of these poor guys have to participate in 7-8 events (and not just 5) to make up for possible bomb outs.    most importantly if you get injured anytime during this period (almost 2 years) you are out of the Olympics! that's how Sohrab Moradi missed the Tokyo Olympics despite breaking the WR during the qualification period. you can miss the Olympics in 2028 if you get injured late 2026 !  Karlos Nasar couldn't win the Olympic title if we had these rules in 2024   I understand 2024 qualification formula wasn't great either, it had its own flaws but this one is much worse for threatening athletes' health.
