It's not often one sees Bach making a statement that makes at least sort of sense.

lol it would be preferable to just keep them all banned instead of this PR bullshit.

They wouldn't dare to condition chinese athletes participation on them stating opposition to the CCP ethnic cleansing. Or athletes from certain islamic countries if they support jailing/killing gay people. (Of course not since China and oil states bring in much more money than Russia)

Just keep all the russians banned, don't turn IOC into thought police.

FIG (gymnastics) congress scheduled to take place next month in Istanbul and involve representatives from Russia and Belarus.

Federations from following countries already announced about their withdrawal from congress due RUS and BLR participation: :NOR:POL:EST:LTU:UKR

Czech Republic bans entry to Russian tourists (and athletes) from October 25th. They waited until the recent WTA 500 Ostrava tournament ended but still...

FIS officially extended :RUS and :BLR ban for another season.

No Russian & Belarussian athletes this winter in the FIS Alpine Skiing, Nordic Skiing, Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding World Cups and World Championships

I don't know if it was mentioned before but IBU also extended their ban for both countries, so, we will not see their biathletes in this winter too.

I have to say what some of you must be thinking: it makes no sense that :IRI isn't banned by IOC when they are a more active participant in the war at this point than :BLR, who are included in the Russian ban in most sports.

Yeah, you can say that Iran isn't breaking the Olympic truce like technically Belarus did in February but that was always a bullshit excuse for the ban anyway. This ban will go far beyond the 2022 Winter Games, it's got nothing to do with the Olympic truce at this point.

IOC should be consistent, they should either only ban Russia or they should ban ALL nations that are supporting the war on the side of Russia.

And yeah, if the recent news is true and Iran will attack Saudi Arabia.... but let's hope that won't happen.

We may very likely have the first sport event cancelled due non participation of Russians

The prestigious Ice Hockey World Cup (Organized by NHL every once in a blue moon) was planned to be played in February 2024,

but was announced yesterday that The World Cup of Hockey will not be returning in 2024.

The NHL and NHL Players' Association said in a joint statement Friday "the current environment it is not feasible" to hold the World Cup, but did not elaborate further... Calling another try for 2025 https://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/nhl/world-cup-of-hockey-2024-cancelled-1.6649321

One does not need to be a nuclear physicist to understand "the current environment it is not feasible" means NHL does not want to organize their gold mine project without Russian (they already claimed the wish to have RUS team in the competition)
until Bettman and co. were (in what can be described as complete shocking surprise for themselves and nobody else in this planet) lately returned out from their dreams after they started to face refusals of playing RUS (even under white or neutral flag) team from European powerhouses :p

Due to its suspension, NPC Russia loses all IPC membership rights subject to its right to appeal. Should any appeal not be upheld, only the General Assembly can lift the suspension. Next General Assembly likely Q4 of 2023.
