It is quite unworthy to run a 20km walk at 1pm, without a trace of shade and under the sun. WA is destroying the race walk

yeah, but not beacuse of of the race scheduling...

they killed the sport many times already by allowing people to run instead of walk...

among the girls shown on TV for more than a few seconds (the top 6/7), the only regular action was Garcia Leon's (and only after the 6th/7th kilometer)...

and among the men (as usual, talking only of those shown on TV for longer than a breathe), Karlsson was the only one to have a fairly regular walk in the second half of the race (which is quite funny, as the Swede is known for not being technically good)...

the Japanese guys (especially Yamanishi, in particular in the last kilometer, when he got away from his rivals) were just a scandal...they were breaking both fundamental rules, not keeping their knees blocked and running as rabbits (the air phase at any step was well visible with naked eyes on tv)...

with a lot of pain in my heart, but it's really time to get rid of race walking as it stands...nowadays, in most cases it's just a fake run...

If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated! Full story and how to help can be found here!

Because there would never be any finishers.

I know you are joking, but people who never actually watch anything do actually use this as their serious argument :p

Sounds like just more of the same as in Tokyo.

I think athletes just started doing it on purpose, banking on that the judges will never have the balls to DQ everyone in the Top 10 or something. Not doing anything is the least scandalous option, as funny as it is, but yeah, these judges stand to lose their jobs if race walking falls under severe scrutiny.

Yeah, race walking was less predictable 20+ years ago. Korzeniowski being DQ 400 meters from the 1992 OG 50km finish or Segura DQ after he "won" 20km gold medal in Sydney 2000
