  1. Masks still aren’t mandatory in California. Only when you enter a shop do you need one. They don’t have a real purpose outside of protecting people from those already infected. They just serve as a good reminder to people about the dangers of certain activities. Their good for psychology, but not all that practical for healthy people.
  2. Yeah, it’s one of the few upsides to living where I do (and there aren’t many (our town is in Urban Dictionary as the definition of hell). These are California poppies and they’re a deep bright orange. I don’t believe are poppies have opium (for those curious about drug production), but I wouldn’t matter anyways as they are all protected (it’s illegal to pick, harm, or destroy them). I’ll leave some photos from the last two years below (which are some of the best years we’ve had in decades). The problem is that people are leaving their houses in droves to see them. So far, people are doing a decent job of avoiding each other though. (Sorry for the reduced image size, there’s better copies on my Flickr). What’s even cooler is that the bloom happens during Monarch (butterfly) migration season too! I only have this one measly picture, but there’s millions out in the fields right now!
  3. I can look into that. The only with posting the PDFs to Totallympics is the data storage. I can share them directly from the cloud where I’m storing them, but that’s my one copy, and if someone fucks with it....well it’s a sad day for me. If LA84 is willing to accept my collection, I can just link them from there to Totallympics. All that of course lies on LA84 having an interest on my work, and allowing me to be a contributor to their digital library.
  4. That is correct. I do plan to start aiding with multi-sports Wikipedia at some point. My coding skills just aren’t there yet.
  5. Right, but I want people to be able to enjoy them in their original format, and it’s not just results. It’s bunch of “cool” information material I’ve collected.
  6. US is going to get a lot worse. Americans don’t have a strong resolve and many are already breaking the rules.
  7. Well there was that plan to build a mountain a few years ago...
  8. Yeah, I might do that if I get bored over the summer. I definitely plan to do my best to get them on our revamped results website at last (in regular text form, not PDF). I love the PDFs because they come with nice covers, notes from officials, logos, pictograms, sponsors, etc.
  9. I learned of their library’s existence yesterday. I sent them an email yesterday evening, but I’ve yet to hear back (which is fine, I don’t expect instantaneous service). I don’t know a lot about the library, but I’m very familiar with LA84, and I love the work they do. Do you know anything about them?
  10. State flower is in bloom . My valley is famous for our bloom, but we’ve had a huge one this year, and the there’s even green grasses growing too! My photos suck because I was trying to avoid everyone, so as not get Covid
  11. Still looking for some guidance/opinions here...
  12. There’s hundreds of species in California. There’s a lot of sea fishing, but fresh water fishing is mainly split between trout (the biggest group), bass, and catfish.
  13. @hckosice trout fishing, now finally there’s a similarity between Slovakia and California
  14. I don’t know how realistic the chances of this as an outcome are, but it’s food for thought:
  15. Glad to see my fellow citizens taking this seriously (These crazies held rallies in multiple states today). Interestingly, liberals around rallying against the GOP saying the same things the lady. We have two sides, that are polar opposite on every issue, both believing they are leading revolutions into an election; what could go wrong this year Here’s the idiots:
  16. I need some advice/feedback/suggestions on my collection. As y’all know I’ve been collecting results for all the international multi-sports games, and my collection has grown significantly. I’m to the point where I only have 3/4 games left to curate (realistically). I’ve actually begin collecting maps, posters, spectator guides, newsletters, broadcast schedules, and whatnot as well. I’m sure there’s elegant way to ask the questions I have, but all I think of is: What now? I mean what should I do? My original goal was to build up a collection for myself to enjoy, but then I got rather serious about it, and I revised my goal into making my collection public. The problem is that I don’t think I have the infrastructure to do that. At this point, I’m setting on 7GB of data, which isn’t a lot in fairness, but I actually have somewhere in the realm of 25GB (most likely more) of data that I’d love to share. I would try upload my collection to the Totallympics Media website or the Totallympics Results website, but I’m pretty sure I would A - crash the websites, B - reduce the openness of the collections, C - it would cost a fortune (I don’t actually know, but I’m assuming) D - the collection would probably be poorly maintained. So what should I do? I’m terms of what I envision, I want there to be a place where people can go to learn about and research all the international multi-sports games. Everything would be open, anyone could contribute, and goal would be gain as much information as possible. It would follow the model of the Olympic Library and others like it. Much of the stuff in my collection is somewhat available online, some of it is practically exclusive at this point (and some of it probably will be in the future). I just don’t want my work to go to waste. There needs to be some type of end, so that I don’t go crazy or get depressed that all of my work was for nothing. Hopefully this post makes some sort of sense. I’m open to all suggestions, ideas, advice, guidance, etc. I encourage people to give their opinions. I just want help.
  17. Yay, My favorite logo one Bermuda’s design competition. This is their new NOC logo:
  18. There is no overlap. Mediterranean Games June 25 - July 5. Commonwealth Games July 27 - August 7
  19. Yeah, the sources aren’t specific. Hopefully the IBSF posts something to help clarify.
  20. I don’t have high hopes for this, but at least they’re still trying to have them.
  21. Sam Clayton Jr. - Bobsleigh https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/13/obituaries/sam-clayton-jr-dead.html
  22. I don’t know what the monetary situation of either NOC is. It might just come down to which sports choose to send a team where (and rather the NOC can afford it).
  23. and Cyprus. I’d say the Commonwealth Games are a bigger deal, but who knows. Either way, it’s douche move to choose the same dates.
  24. Multiple US health experts are begging to say that’s sports will not be able to be played in front of live audiences until mid/late 2021 at the earliest. Personally I think any international event schedules before October is done for. 2020 Asian Beach Games be able to take place in November. 2021 Winter Universaide in January is a big maybe based off what I’ve read. Even Tokyo2020 might have to be postponed again or cancelled. It’s still too early to tell, but dark days are upon us for sure.
