  1. Bad result from Beatrix ...

Jacquelin will compete in Antholz as well as Simon Fourcade. If they achieve a top-20 they'll qualify for the Olympics as substitute, otherwise the remaining spot(s) will be filled according to the results of each athlete at the European champs.

Kind of trials, I like it :p

Both Bjoentegard and Gjesbakk are (significantly) faster than Bjoerndalen. There's actually 7 Norwegians in the World Cup top-30 when looking purely at the speed rankings, Bjoerndalen is way, way down in 71st (!) place.

Even Gjermunshaug seems to be faster (despite not having seen him in WC this year)

  3. Actually Bjoerndalen is not faster than the others, Bjoentegaard made the 5th (!) time this afternoon, 1 minute ahead of L'Abée Lund and 1m30 ahead of Bjoerdalen.

In Hochfilzen, Bjoentegaard was also in front of him.

Even a place in the relay is not justified, the fact that he is able to do the job doesn't mean he deserves a spot in the team, Birkeland is faster and better on the range than him so far ...

Well, it's not like Guigonnat or Jacquelin built strong cases for themselves in this race either. The selection process is still pretty much wide open.

As for the Czechs, it seems that this slow start to the season was all a rouse and it looks like they're ready to cause some trouble now.

Yes but Guigonnat is again well ahead Beatrix and Jacquelin has made the cut ... he should have been downgraded before, it's a new below average performance from him and I don't think he deserves to be protected again

Well, first pursuit for Tomas Kaukėnas this season, so I guess we have that. Vytautas Strolia didn't cope with the shooting and now he'll be 61st with 0.1s away from tomorrow's pursuit.

Pretty nice to see Svendsen doing well, would be fun if he could take down Fourcade tomorrow.

Both Boes and Hofer in very good positions for the pursuit, but a pretty bad performance for the Germans again.

Both Gow brothers in points as well.

And lastly, Beatrix just punched a ticket to the IBU cup probably.

Also good return of the Czechs, it seems they have digested the lack of Koukalova

Concerning Beatrix he knew he had the sword of Damocles hanging over his head ... it's all in the hands of Simon now :)

He says that he doesn't understand why he has been sent back to IBU Cup since he was not last in the rankings (Beatrix was) and get it as a lack of confidence from the staff (he didn't get explanations).

In my opinion the program of this stage is favorable, he has two clear shots with two different sprints ... if he cannot reach at least one podium then he doesn't deserve to be in the WC squad QED

Thanks, that's very interesting. I was following some of Simon's results and had a feeling that he might get relegated from World Cup, but that must be a detrimental blow to his confidence yet again.

As for Team USA, women's nation cup score looks very worrying for them, especially since they'll be losing a handful of points to their competition after the relay as well, they might lose 1-2 starting quota's for next season if they focus on the Olympics too much.

And finally, welcome to the forum, always nice to see the biathlon family growing here.

Actually I "feared" he would be protected just because he's Martin's brother but the staff has been impartial in this case ... JG Beatrix is also on the edge so it will be interesting to see how he manage to get through "The Jacquelin Menace"

For the USA i reckon the Olympics are always something else ... even if Lowell Bailey maybe made his blow one year too early :p

Thank you for your welcome ... though I expected nothing less :d

  8. Hello ! I have been reading you for a long time now and I somehow managed to create an account. My first message will be on this very topic because ... biathlon.

Actually I've got some news to back your message @Werloc

In the french team Simon Fourcade has been replaced by Jacquelin and will take part in IBU Cup this week-end, his results have been very poor in the last stages while the boys in IBU Cup have really been consistent (particularly Jacquelin and Guigonnat). From what I know the rule is that a podium in IBU Cup ensures a spot in the next WC, in return the least in WC goes back to IBU Cup. He must perform in Brezno otherwise it will be unlikely to see him in the olympic squad.

For Team USA the upcoming competitions will serve as trials, Bailey, Burke and Doherty have already qualified thanks to their results so far, as well as Dunklee and Egan on the women side. The rest of the team will compete in Slovakia in order to take the last spots available.
