I think you could definitively package field events a lot better in particular. Having some made for TV events in more intimate settings than a giant athletic stadium without other stuff going around at the same time would certainly help with the TV packaging of things like the long jump, the high jump or the shot put.

I'm also not particularly opposed to getting rid of the track 10000m and replacing it with a 10km road race and to also include the half marathon in all major games (without getting rid of the marathon, obviously). If you want a gimmicky event that actually makes sense why not have a 4x10.549km (quarter Marathon) road race relay?

You can work at making athletics more TV friendly (which I do believe is needed) without turning it into a farce.

There is already a kind of "marathon" relay, the Ekiden

  3. Jacquelin first u23 in the top 5 since ... Johannes Boe in Khanti two years ago (he did it several times before), before him was Quentin Fillon-Maillet in Ruhpolding 2015 (with the incredible finish between him, Schempp and Slesingr) and before was Simon Desthieux in Oslo 2014 :p

So the French are quite precocious, though QFM has not won yet, and Destieux has not made a podium neither :(

  4. Or Jakov Fak :yes

Even as a French I must confess that I'm a bit weary about Martin's domination :)

But paradoxically I feel even more french after this statement, you know being raised in a country which cherishes Poulidor more than Anquetil leaves some traces :p

One thing that I'd like to bring attention to is Team France. With Jacquelin and Simon Fourcade in the team tomorrow, that means that Beatrix is out of the Olympics.

It is not that easy :p

Simon F. and Jacquelin must make a top 20 to validate their ticket to Korea, if not Beatrix will be added to the mix in Ridnaun next week

Well, yeah :d Although I can't deny, that it's fairly weird how Germany kept the exact same team throughout the entire season. (when Dahlmeier became healthy)

They have a strong A team and no real talent strong enough to jeopardize the order yet (when you see that the same Horchler sisters are the danger)

  7. il y a 9 minutes, Werloc a déclaré:

Yet for another world cup, team Germany remains absolutely the same. Meaning that the only person that ever got a chance besides these six ladies was Karolin Horchler, whilst Dahlmeier was sick.

Also, why do these become longer with every race???

If you take two more lines even when nothing has changed you will never reduce the length :d

South America has mountains and snow and if they wanted they could improve and challenge in the FIS sports. But the truth is they are not that interested, or have traditions in winter sports. Nothing to do with being excluded from the north countries.

Same with ice sports. If they could build many halls for basketball, volleyball, fight sports, they could as well build a few skating rings. But they don't, because there would be hardly any people to want to use it (i reckon, can't be fully sure of course). And that's ok, those countries don't have the culture for winter sports. It's not the faulth of the northern countries that many others don't participate, they just don't want to and not because there are forcefully excluded.

Exactly ... but it's easier to justify it by saying that the big bad western countries don't want you to perform

That's called national championships inflation. :p

When you see that the second pair beats its record by 10 points (from what I see they are not that young and promising) you understand better :p

Good job though ... they put a great pressure on the judges before the olympics :)

Whaaaaaaat ? How can they score 10 points less than what they did last month ... scandal !

    Nothing new under the sun

We never really have one to start with. Only one roller guy that is left alone with his... roller coach.

At his point, I believe it would be better it the roller sport federation was handling it...

They should create a gateway between the two ...

  11. il y a 2 minutes, Gianlu33 a déclaré:

    No, we have two federation.

The FISI is the federation for all the FIS sports, IBU, FIL and IBSF.

Meanwhile the FISG federation is for all the sports of ISU and Ice Hockey and Curling

The same in France ... but every fund from the FFSG goes to figure skating :p After the olympics we'll officially have 0 speed skater :)
