  1. Price is playing and especially finishing at an insane level.
  2. Gary is a slight anti-vaxxer "Yeah...I don't really believe in vaccines, I'm old school." Ugh.
  3. I saw a good bet for Manificat having the fastest time today at odds of 9, but couldn't bet (not more than 1 or 2 euros anyway since my account is completely limited in the one bookmaker that had this bet). As expected after yesterday's performance, he was really strong indeed, but I think Spitsov managed to beat him by 0,3 seconds
  4. That was just a regular turn though
  5. Wait, what? I had a yellow stone here laying around to show at border control when entering the US, you're saying that won't work?
  6. Arabic?
  7. This helped so much (although Dragonball Z in my case, and a bit older age) Which is why it's sad to see more and more children's programs nowadays being dubbed in Dutch instead of simply having subtitles, every single bit of research ever shows that subtitles instead of voice-overs greatly improve language skills..
  8. Which is why I always liked when they were somewhere deep in some Mauritanian desert and it was waiting for some news out of that vast sea of nothing
  9. I believe they used to have some short Watts in between the commercials (apart from the regular Watts broadcasts), but that has totally disappeared
  10. Which one of these happened after the finish? It must have been a push that wasn't shown, because right after the finish Belov tapped his shoulder (presumably to apologize) and he just shrug it off a bit harsher than one normally would. Curious what happened afterwards then.
  11. Yep, although Belov was definitely the one who shut the door in a fashion that would get you a penalty in other sports. Belov defended too aggressively, Chervotkin attacked too aggressively, I guess the latter mattered more for the judges. Bit unfair, but sure.
  12. Interestingly enough this might have taught me more about English than about Portuguese, which I find just as valuable, so thank you The examples did definitely help in understanding what you meant, it was an interesting read and I'll surely keep it in mind
  13. At least there's no suggestion it has anything to do with Paris anymore nowadays
  14. Any chance you could give a small example or two of this?
  15. I sometimes think in English, especially when communicating with our resident Brazilian cross-country skier*. Plenty of times I notice that even though my grammar is very far from perfect, I find certain things to be easier to discuss in English than in Dutch, like when we're talking about the more serious sides of life. Which is something I find both weird and interesting, maybe it's because I'm much more used to doing that in English than in Dutch since often those are not necessarily things I talk much about with my Dutch 'social circle'. *Who is supposed to (and does) speak more and more Dutch these days, while I throw in a few Portuguese sentences here and there.
  16. Being annoyed by Eurosport's way to fill the commercials with other things than commercials (those 'best of Giro 2019' things and so on) is my default reaction when they're on It's like they have four different ones and will play those for the entire year.
  17. It's 2 January and so it's happy birthday to Kane Tanaka, the third ever person in history verified to reach the rather respectable age of 118 years https://www3.nhk.or.jp/news/html/20210102/k10012793571000.html For a 118-year old she looks rather...lively
  18. Chisnall is absolutely tearing apart Van Gerwen
  19. And yeah, Karlsson is absolutely the big winner of today. I do think she has a bit of potential to have one or two off-days now and then, but she is definitely the big favourite even more than she already was now. Not to even mention Bolshunov
  20. Wow, I had completely missed this: she finished 4th and then I went on to watch the men's final and that was it. Lampic really didn't do anything wrong there, that's a sad relegation.
  21. Ah, Garmisch. The one ski jumping event that's shown live on the regular Dutch TV, as shown by the commentary: "The best 50 jumpers qualify for the final, together with that 5 best losers." What
  22. Just having some regular afternoon fun in New York.
  23. It's been a few days, but there was a rather awesome world championships qualification tournament in Heerenveen for the Dutch skaters last weekend and Monday. The absolute highlight was a truly epic 10k between Jorrit Bergsma and Patrick Roest, in which Roest seemed to be out, before he managed to rise up and throw down a complete blinder of a final 2k (he nearly went under 28 seconds in the final lap!) for 12:35.20 minutes, not even two seconds slower than the world record and the second fastest time in history. Bergsma finished in 12:37.72 which is now the fourth fastest time in history. The men's 1000m saw an impressive 1:07.36 for Thomas Krol, Roest skated the 5k track record into history with 6:08.21 minutes. The women's 500m had an awesome fight between Femke Kok and Jutta Leerdam who posted a 37.08 and 37.24 in the first run (they didn't come close in run two). Only Nao Kodaira (36.94 in Gangneung) and Angelina Golikova (37.02 in Heerenveen) have ever been faster at sea level than Kok's race. Those were the main highlights, although the women's 3k was very impressive as well with Antoinette de Jong skating a new track record in 3:57.32 minutes, Irene Schouten finished in 2nd but won the 5k in a great 6:51.45 minutes. https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wereldkampioenschapskwalificatietoernooi_schaatsen_2020/2021
  24. Yep, noticed that as well, who knows what happens though if he manages to pick out the right races instead of racing in 'tough' countries like Switzerland (still, I wouldn't bet on it since under 300 at the world championships seems rather....unlikely ). No chance for a Project Bogota-like thing neither this time. Pretty good result from Steve Hiestand by the way, also from Manex Silva in the junior race - which I still think is unfair to get the same kind of points as senior races.. Too bad for them they aren't the athletes favoured by the federation, even though Manex is probably the best Brazilian cross-country skier at the moment.
