  1. Any pictures of the gymnastics venue? I'm very curious.
  2. It's nice that a woman is a flagbearer, but when are we going to see a black woman carrying the Brazilian flag across the stadium? All of the women who have been selected at the Olympics were white, and now for the Pan Ams, another white woman.
  3. Is Ana Padurariu injured? EDIT: She is. This is terrible. Padurariu is the one I was mostly looking forward to in team Canada. Anyway, Isabela Onyshko replaces Padurariu and this makes the battle for team silver a little more interesting. Canada still has the upper hand, but now it's not impossible for Brazil to theoretically beat Canada's score. Not the best way to do it, because I wanted everyone to be healthy, but let's hope for the best from now on.
  4. I have never seen people complaining when a Japanese swimmer wins gold. Fu Yuanhui has become sort of an international phenomenon thanks to her personality and many "Western" people root for her. I have seen people questioning Ireland's Michelle Smith's Olympic gold medals, and she is from Europe, not Asia. You are trying too hard to make this a "West vs. East" issue when in fact it's a "doper vs. clean swimmers" issue.
  5. Again, I think you missed the point. The protest is not against the result per se, but instead against the fact Sun Yang was even allowed to compete. It's like you know you failed a Math test, but instead of handing in the test so you will receive a low grade, you make a lump out of the paper and swallow it, and ask your teacher to give you an A grade because he's not able to correct the test anymore and he has to believe you scored high. Or ask the teacher to take the test another day.
  6. Sun Yang is a convicted doper. This does not even compare.
  7. So far, taking into account long course and open water swimming events, China leads the medal table (4-1-2), the US is in second place (3-3-4) and Australia is third (2-2-3). Germany (2-2-2), Canada (2-0-3), Brazil (2-0-1), Hungary (2-0-0), France (1-3-1), Italy (1-1-4) and Great Britain (1-1-1) complete the top 10. No gold medals for Russia and Japan in swimming as of yet.
  8. Efimova taking King's victory gracefully is the best thing she can do for her image. King insistently looking at Efimova before the race is HILARIOUS, though. I'm used to such drama in gymnastics, but usually the Russians start the drama, not the Americans.
  9. The mascot better stay away from Sun Yang.
  10. Sun Yang is absolutely disgusting. He is a disgrace not only for swimming, but also for sport in general.
  11. I agree, but for a different reason. Let's say that in this specific case, I wish the dress code was the same one adopted by Tonga.
  12. Does South Korea have any chance to win a medal? Also, the bronze medal in diving was quite unexpected, wasn't it?
  13. Bronze medal for Nicholas Santos at 39 years-old. Finally I can say someone older than me is still earning medals. Maybe I should watch equestrian and shooting competitions a little more.
  14. I'll only ever say "God save the Queen" if it refers to the rock band.
  15. Huge shock! Congratulations, Canada!
  16. I live in Joinville. It rains so much there that people call the city Chuville (chuva = rain in Portuguese). I miss Rio so much.
  17. You guys really like to rain on my parade.
  18. Yes, you have a point, but let me laugh for a while.
  19. There's a Brazilian swimmer who recently became an American citizen, Felipe Lima. He stated in an interview he wants to represent the United States in the future. This year he represented Brazil in 100 m breaststroke. He didn't even make the cut to the semifinals.
  20. Brazil's 3:11.99 would have been enough for a bronze medal (tied with Hungary) last year in the last edition of the championships (2017). The fact that they finished only 6th now is a wake up call to our federation, since everyone though this medal was won even before the race started.
  21. I'm disappointed with the results. Chiereghini and Spajari performed below what I expected, and the medal was lost right from the start. At least Fratus did well and Correia delivered a surprising performance given I expected nothing from him in 100 m competition. Let's see what Correia gets in 4 x 200 m now.
  22. There's red and indigo for you to try.
  23. It's a full twisting double back. The most difficult skill on beam, but she's not the originator of the element, though. She's been training a double double since 2013, though. What I really wanted to see from her is a triple twisting yurchenko vault. Hong Un Jong attempted one at the 2016 Olympics but she fell short and lost the chance of earning a medal. Bummer. Biles should be able do it for someday..
  24. She's unbelievable. Her newest skill on floor is a triple twisting double back somersault. Needless to say, no woman has ever attempted this before and even among men this is a very rare and very difficult skill. It's like Biles is not even human. She's 20 or 30 years ahead of what we expect from women's gymnastics. No one can even compare.
