  1. Wikipedia shows that Niue has won their first ever gold medal. In which event?
  2. Nice! It's easier to appreciate what athletes do when you're involved with the sport somehow, but as an spectator I'm not committed to invest my time on this sport as of yet. In fact, I disapprove of many of the additions, including karate, skateboarding and the dreadful break dancing.
  3. I think it's boring. I mean, what's the excitement when some races end in 5 seconds?
  4. Artistic and rhythmic gymnastics, judo, swimming and volleyball. Next in line would be table tennis, archery, diving, artistic swimming and athletics. The 10 (11 actuallÿ) sports I never watch: wrestling, taekwondo, basketball, baseball/softball, karate, sport climbing, badminton, fencing, cycling and boxing.
  5. So, if Grangeon gets injured, does it mean Muller cannot take her place? Even if theoretically she's the next in line? (Well, if this is the case, the next in line would be Olasz, I guess.)
  6. I understand your point, but unfortunately there's nothing we can do about the injuries. Calvo, Gonzales, Andrade and Moreno will be missed, but the level will still be high even without them. By the way, has Molinari retired? I hope he hasn't. All I want from this event if for him to earn a medal.
  7. In artistic gymnastics, only the US will not send their best gymnasts. In women's artistic, Biles will miss the event, but the other gymnasts are either from their A or B team, so the level will be good. In men's artistic gymnastics all of the guys are relatively unknown, but they seem to be decent. The other teams will be the best of the best.
  8. Brilliant race for the Algerian guy. He conserved energy and attacked at the right time to win the bronze medal.
  9. I can't believe Pazhava will go back home empty handed. What a shock. And Bogdanova with a medal? Today, hell will freeze over.
  10. Is Generalova injured? I can't believe she was not chosen! Not a fan of Feeley, but she's (mostly) competent. She's not bad, just bland. Anyway, this makes things a lot more interesting, though. Feeley will still probably win most silver medals, but I honestly don't believe she will hit all of her routines (pretty much like Bezzoubenko in 2015). There's definitely more chances for other gymnasts now to dream with a silver medal, or maybe 3 different countries on the podium (especially on ribbon).
  11. Wow, such a tight result at the very first event. Amazing!
  12. Undeserved penalty for Brazil, undeserved penalty for Peru... Even after revisions through the VAR. Anyway, a fitting ending to a convoluted tournament. The VAR system is a mess, the level is terrible, most players performed below my expectations... the only good thing about this title is that Neymar is not part of it.
  13. Brazil decided to play as if the match was already won, and now Peru equalizes the match. Well deserved equalizer for Peru.
  14. I've never been a fan of two bronze medals, but this is beyond stupid. Even worse than boxing and judo.
  15. Italians celebrating after the Taiwanese gymnast fell. Disgusting. Let this be a reminder that not only Brazilians can be assholes. Italians too. Also, this means Ferlito got the gold medal. She has bad form overall in her tumbling passes and her routine does not flow very well, so the fact that she was awarded a gold medal is a bit surprising, but the level was quite low. Farah Abdul placing fourth is heartbreaking, especially considering how boring Perebinosova's routine is (although she has much better form, I have to admit). Even so, Perebinosova is very uncomfortable to watch because she always looks like she hates gymnastics and is being forced to perform. Ugh.
  16. Atrocious scores. It's unbelievable how bad balance beam finals have been in the last few years.
  17. The report lists silver for Turkey and Austria. The medal table lists silver for Austria and bronze for Turkey, but this is wrong. Source in Turkish confirming the silver medal: https://www.haberler.com/30-dunya-universiteler-yaz-spor-oyunlari-12219678-haberi/ Source in German confirming the silver medal: https://sport.orf.at/stories/3050925/
  18. A medal in gymnastics for Brazil! Now, that's unexpected! And I'll never agree with the way tie breaks work on vault. The final score is based on an average of two vaults, but the tie break drops the score of the lowest vault and considers the execution score of the highest scored vault. This means that one great vault + one bad vault is better than two good vaults. This makes no sense. But a medal is a medal, so I'm happy with that.
  19. One Swiss gymnast got injured and instead of providing a stretcher as soon as he got injured, it took ages for one to arrive. Bad organization from the medical staff.
  20. American Samoa, Cook Islands, Fiji, Papua New Guinea and Tonga recently joined FIG (this year, I guess, or last year), so it's not impossible for gymnastics to be added soon to the program. It's only a matter of which discipline(s). Rhythmics? I don't see it mostly because of the price of the apparatus. But Australia and New Zealand are terrible at rhythmics, so the smaller nations might have it in the future. Aerobics is a lot cheaper, but Australia and New Zealand are very far ahead of the rest of the competition, so I believe they would never be allowed to compete. Parkour will probably be included at the Olympics before 2032, so it would be better for federations to stop fighting and prepare their gymnasts as soon as possible.
  21. I'm looking forward to the day gymnastics will be included in the program. I'm not hopeful for artistic gymnastics, of course. It would be amazing if they ever consider parkour in the future. Neither Australia nor New Zealand have a strong background in parkour, so all of the Pacific nations could start on the same level. Let's hope for the next edition.
  22. Why do you guys think there's a "robbery" going on? I don't trust CONMEBOL, and I don't trust CBF either, but why bother fixing results in such a competition with low importance for Brazilians? I mean, the Copa America title is worth nothing in Brazil, really, since people never care about this competition. Brazilians only care about the World Cup title. Everything else is just small and unimportant, and the mostly empty stadiums are clear signs of how little the Copa America means around here (of course the tickets are also too pricey, but a gigantic number of people simply don't care about this event). Besides, the level of the competition seems to be quite low, so it's almost inconceivable for me to think about fixed results. Anyway, I believe Messi was deservedly sent off, and it takes balls for the referee to do this. Of course most people will complain because Messi has an almost unstained record when it comes to red cards, but I would have sent him off too if I were the referee.
  23. He got into a stupid argument with a Chilean player, they tackled each other for a bit and the referee sent both off.
  24. The last 20 minutes of the first half were disgusting. I was all in for Argentina's revenge, but things didn't turn out to be very pretty. Chile and Argentina couldn't help but fight all the time, Messi was sent off, arguments erupted every five minutes... I know there's a lot of money to be earned by finishing third, but it's disgusting to see players fighting each other instead of playing football. Even when Brazil was 7-0 behind Germany at the 2014 World Cup, our players never resorted to violence or tried psychological tricks on German players.
