  1. This makes me so happy! I fell in love with modern pentathlon because of Yane Marques, but I thought we would be done for after she retired... It looks like there's still hope for us after all! Amazing!
  2. Yes, totally unexpected. Eaker had two falls, which is almost unbelievable. This gives me hope for a gold medal of floor for Flávia.
  3. Fair score. If he really didn't fall, he loses only 0.5 for a deep landing, instead of 1.0 for a fall.
  4. De Luna and Corral Barron are your best chances for a medal. I'm surprised with the level of Baron right now, and fourth place for your team is FANTASTIC.
  5. Daniel Aguero blew his chances of a medal on vault. I can't believe it!
  6. With this score? Absolutely. 10th-12th position at the World Championships is feasible.
  7. I understand your point, but there are two things here that must be made clear: 1) The point is not "people don't like to see a Chinese swimmer winning medals". This is not about his nationality. When people complain about Sun Yang, the problem is not his origin. I understand that there is heavy bias towards Asia (yes, I read Orientalism by Edward Said during my PhD classes) but I honestly don't think most people here are biased towards Asia. Instead, most of us can't stand Sun Yang for his actions. 2) The fact that in other sports there are athletes who act like this is really sad. It should not be the norm, and I feel bad for people who admire such bad examples not only sport, but in life.
  8. This was confirmed by one swimmer at the time. You can defend him all you want, but please don't act the fool. I'm not playing a game of "you are worse because..." with you. Not my thing.
  9. I mean he's an a**hole. Plain and simple. He pushed a female Brazilian swimmer during practice once, confronted a fellow swimmer on the podium, destroyed possible evidence against him... And China topped the medal table thanks to diving, not swimming. They did not even finish in the top 3 in swimming events, even if you count open water swimming (US, Australia and Hungary were the top 3). My bias can be disgusting all you want it to be, and so is your poor judgement and senseless defense of a convicted doper.
  10. Molinari! Yeeees! I want him to get a medal! Brazil had their best ever performance in a team event with an all-time high (for us) score over 250 points. Amazing! Canada was a HUGE surprise scoring over 246 points. I don't think the US can score even as high as Canada (the US boys scored 246 last year on a perfect day with no mistakes at all).
  11. This is Canada's best chance for a men's team medal in 20 years, but they should not pose a threat to Brazil or the United States. Even a bronze medal would be fantastic for them. They surely have improved after they hired a Brazilian coach.
  12. What are the best chances for Uruguay to get a medal at the Pan Ams? I guess Victor Rostagno is a dark horse on vault (and maybe floor, but this is an even longer shot). It's not impossible for him to get a medal.
  13. When you are given a second, third, fourth, fifth chance, and you've proven you are an a**hole, and your actions can be seen as a desperate attempt to hide cheating, there's no way this person can redeem himself. Even Efimova is a lot more humble when faced with criticism. Everybody is free to choose who to admire, of course, so more power to you.
  14. They have a lot more good and successful examples too. Besides, when you usually have the best athletes in a given sport, it's expected that somehow cheaters will try hard to join the team as well so they can keep up. China is not the best in swimming, and Russia tries to be the best in everything but they mostly fall flat on their faces when competing against clean American swimmers. It's not hard to figure out, really.
  15. Okay, Casado was an expected gold medal but not exactly easy. Now, bronze in gymnastics? Impossible. The closest competition is the United States (and, even so, this is their C team). All the other teams are missing their best gymnasts and I don't even know who will win bronze because everybody else is poor condition. Even if we have a terrible day there's no way we will win anything less than silver.
  16. Three easy gold medals lost: Casado in artistic roller skating, Isquias and Erlom in sprint canoeing and Avancinin in mountain bike. I hope artistic gymnastics does not disappoint today. It should be an easy gold medal too.
  17. We've seen many cases of doping from China and Russia, so they are the ones responsible for tarnishing their own images.
  18. Australia upset the US in a relay event aga... Oops, it was Great Britain this time.
  19. According to our commentator on Brazilian TV (and Wikipedia), Litherland has both Japanese and New Zealander descent. He finished ahead of a New Zealander and behind a Japanese here. EDIT: Joshi beat me.
  20. Is Pilato the youngest ever medalist at the World Aquatics Championships? It would be cool to have the youngest (Pilato) and the oldest (Nicholas Santos) in the same year.
  21. Huge surprises today. What an exciting last day for the championships!
  22. She does because she is still part of the team officially. Well, this went a lot better than I had expected. Great result considering all the drama that has happened so far. Now I want a medal for Dominici and Magistrati. I hope they can achieve one.
  23. The performances have been terrible so far. It's not a problem with the scoring system, it's a problem with the gymnasts themselves.
  24. The Cubans don't look healthy. They have been forced beyond their limits and their bodies are crumbling. Poor girls. Only Brazil can beat Argentina now. I expect 156 or more for Brazil, but 3 falls would be enough to finish below Argentina. It could be close, very close.
