  1. I believe they should be postponed to September or October this year. There's no option to vote for this, though.
  2. FIG released a statement today informing that a committee will be formed and a new qualification system will be created. I'm against this for one reason: every FIG document presented alternative qualification methods should the planned championships not be held. Creating a new system would only take more time and frustrate federations that thought they had qualified gymnasts for the Olympics according to the original documents. Ensuring continental representation in every genre could easily be achieved by adjusting the rules for the tripartite invitational quotas. Currently, Africa in men's artistic gymnastics, men's trampoline and women's trampoline, and Oceania in rhythmic gymnastics, are not currently qualified. This could be solved easily, but bet that there will come a system that will totally disrespect gymnasts who should have qualified and give quotas to smaller programs with questionable quality.
  3. Nope. Just assumptions. FIG released a note today informing that they will form a committee to discuss new qualification procedures. I wish they could respect the documents that have been released because these documents outlined alternative qualification methods should the championships not be held. Of course the circumstances are far from what was expected, but the truth is that federations knew about the procedures and no one complained, so they should just take what is written and move on.
  4. Mexico is next in line. There are three other continental championships scheduled in May, but I believe none of them will happen. If they get canceled, the next qualifiers are: Individuals: Chisaki Oiwa Ekaterina Fetisova Fanni Pigniczki Groups: If the All-Around World Cup is also canceled, the next qualifiers would be: Polina Berezina Ksenia Moustafayeva Denisa Mailat There's also the tripartite invitation that will probably go to: Rejchl Stojanov
  5. Are there any results from competitions hosted by Brazil that you want? I'll move back to Rio in 2 months (hopefully) and the National Library is in Rio, so I can go there and look for books with results if you want.
  6. The European Championships has been canceled. If qualifications documents are to be followed, Salome Pazhava qualifies as an individual and the group will get a quota.
  7. @Olympian1010, @MHSN, if you guys have access to old links where these results were supposed to be, or come across broken/dead links, you can always try to open the links through the Internet Archive (web.archive.org). Through this, and after months exploring obscure forums online, I was able to find all of the results of every stage of the World Cup series in artistic and rhythmic gymnastics since 1999. I also found many results from the rhyrhmic gymnastics Grand Prix series since 1994. I asked FIG for help but they never replied (even after 5 e-mails), but the Internet Archive helped me a great deal and I believe I've found some information even FIG doesn't have anymore.
  8. I forgot about a host and motto. I'm afraid it might seem that I lack creativity, but I would choose as the host city the place where I currently live, Joinville (I'm moving back to Rio in a couple months, though). Joinville has a population of nearly 600 thousand people and it hosts the Joinville Dance Festival every year. It was once the largest dance festival in the world, and remains the largest in Brazil. It's also the only place in the world outside of Russia where there's an official Bolshoi Ballet Academy. It would be perfect for the "Discolympics". As for the motto, I'm in doubt. It could be: 1) Listen to your passion 2) Move to the rhythm of your passion 3) Let sport touch your heart 4) Your heart beats to the rhythm of sports 5) One heart, two passions (i.e., sport and music)
  9. This is TeamGym. The problem is that currently there's no international federation representing the sport, only the European federation, which organizes European Championships since 1996.
  10. Trampoline, tumbling and parkour would not be included. It's for the best, of course.
  11. If the continental championships are canceled too, the rules are confusing and kind of up for debate, but from I understand the eligible qualifiers would be, in order: Women: Seojeong Bachynska Magistrati Kaeslin Schermann Fidelis Nedov Crisan Gutierrez Men: Mussayev Dolgopyat Mozzato Borello Jessen Schmidt Gonzalez Muntean Van den Keybus
  12. The all-around World Cup in Birmingham has been canceled. This means that the all-around world cup series cannot serve as one of the qualifying stages for the Olympics anymore. EDIT: I had the wrong version of the document. The correct version is clear about the qualification rules. The qualifiers are: Women (+1 quota): Men (+1 quota):
  13. So, Petrounias wants the qualifications for Baku World Cup to count as finals, and he thinks he can still outscore Liu Yang. Excerpt from a recent interview for the International Gymnast website: IG: You were in a good position to win in Baku before the finals were canceled. What is your perspective on the disappointing circumstances, and especially how they affect your plans to qualify for Tokyo? EP: Yes, it is true that I am in very good shape and the 15.10 (score in qualifications) isn’t the best score I can get. I really believe I can do better. With a stuck dismount it can be 15.30-plus! I think the FIG (International Gymnastics Federation) has to count this qualification as a final because it was the closest competition to a final. Otherwise they have to organize a new World Cup in order for the athletes who are chasing the Olympic ticket to have the right chance. After that I think it will not impact my plans because we’re still on the road to Tokyo and the dream is alive. IG: Considering the recent changes to the FIG schedule because of the pandemic, which competitions do you hope to attend in the coming months, and what will you need in terms of points and wins to qualify for Tokyo? EP: As I said, if Baku counts, I need one more win in Doha (World Cup of Doha, originally set for March 18-21 but rescheduled to June 3-6). I will be there to get what I deserve and have worked for, in order to go to Tokyo and defend my title on rings. I’m ready for it.
  14. I like this idea, but I feel that this is basically the Pan American Games with a few invited nations. I would expand this idea to something like Latin Heritage Games, including other nations that have an official language based on Latin (Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, French, Catalan, Romanian). It would be nice to see and 29 other countries where French is an official language (including and a number of African nations). With the inclusion of Vanuatu, all six (or five, depending on how you look at it) continents would be represented, too.
  15. And add Portugal and Spain? LOL. No way. The Ibero American Athletics Championships is a joke. There was an artistic gymnastics championships in the 1980s as well, but it lasted just 3 or 4 editions and it was mostly terrible as well. I would just leave things as they are.
  16. This might sound crazy, but I would love to see an event where every sport depends on music or songs. I have no idea how to call it. The sports I can think of are: Acrobatic gymnastics (FIG) Aerobic gymnastics (FIG) Aesthetic group gymnastics (IFAGG) Artistic cycling (UCI) Artistic gymnastics (even if it's just women's floor) (FIG) Artistic roller skating (FIRS) Artistic swimming (FINA) Dancesport (WDSF) Equestrian (Dressage and Vaulting) (FEI) Figure skating (why not?) (ISU) Rhythmic gymnastics (FIG) Wheel gymnastics (IRV) Only 8 (edit: 9) international sports federations involved. It could work out just fine.
  17. Nope, unless FIG revamps their entire qualification system. In fact, I've been thinking about a system that still be fair amidst this whole crisis, and I believe something like this could work: First, do away with 2 extra gymnasts per nation. Reduce it to only 1 extra gymnast per nation. Then, apply the following rules: A) Top 8 teams at the 2019 World Championships: 1 extra quota B) All around: 1 quota to best 3 nations in all-around competition at the 2019 World Championships, except if extra quota has already been received as one of the top 8 teams. Selection based on individual performances during qualification. C) Apparatus: 1 each top qualifier at the WC series as it currently is. Only applies if nation has not qualified an extra gymnast otherwise. D) Tripartite invitation: 1 quota E) Continental participation: 0-1 quota (this only applies if all 5 continents are not represented otherwise) F) Wildcard: 0-1 quota (preference for host country, if extra quota has not been received otherwise) This would generate the following results: Men's qualifiers: A) B) C) D) E) None F) Women's qualifiers: A) B) C) D) E) None F) Not the ideal scenario, but this would make for excellent performances at the Olympics.
  18. As they say, one person's meat is another one's poison. Bad thing for the Greek, good thing for the Chinese (and possibly us Brazilians too, since Zanetti can still earn a medal on rings).
  19. Yes. There's no easy way out of this mess now. In my opinion, prize money and medals should be distributed based on the results of qualifications. Not the ideal scenario, but it's still better than nothing for the gymnasts. Points for Olympic qualification, though, is a way more complicated matter. If they award points based on qualifications, there will still be hope for Petrounias. If they cancel the results altogether, Petrounias will be out of the Olympics. Not to mention Kheika, Urara and other gymnasts who heavily relied on this stage to make it to the Olympics.
  20. It looks like the event finals were canceled. This is the most absurd thing I've heard in my life if this turns out to be true.
  21. Habiba Marzouk ️of has qualified to the Olympic Games. Amazing result. She's really, really good! Her back flexibility is nothing short of amazing. Probably the strongest ever rhythmic gymnast from Africa.
