  1. that's really sad/disappointing even though that makes sense, feel sorry for Lube and specially for Conegliano I'm really surprised I didn't know that !
  2. IOC says 20 of 27 Olympic sports asked for some changes, but from what I see there are 28 sports. what's that missing sport ? Weightlifting ? or boxing since they don't recognize AIBA ?
  3. Do we know what's going to happen for previous CEV continental leagues ? (I mean mostly both men and women CL) I can't find anything about cancelling them but it's probably impossible to continue the event since most teams already changed their roster for the next season. so what ? CEV wants to finish the remaining matches in the start of the next season ? or they simply don't bother to announce the cancellation ?
  4. I heard from some UWW officials that they plan to add Beach Wrestling and/or Traditional wrestling but I'm almost sure they will never ask to replace Greco with them. they will ask for some new events and IOC will say no. I would say just keep the current number of events. you can't get more. while freestyle is more interesting but Greco-Roman is the oldest version of wrestling. more countries win medal in Greco, more popular in Europe. I can't imagine UWW dropping that at will. IOC once pushed for dropping Greco in 2004 but FILA/UWW didn't give up. is that a serious question ? lol or just joking ? unlike Taekwondo for example in wrestling this is impossible for wrestlers to compete against someone heavier. even in Judo that's possible but no chance in wrestling for lighter guys. for having a team event, you need teams to qualify full team in all styles (or full team in specific weights) I think only 1 or 2 countires are capable of that making the whole idea impossible. Judo can do that because of the huge number of quotas.
  5. Taekwondo already asked for a mixed team event for the 2020 Tokyo, actually there was supposed to be a team event as demonstration or exhibition event in Tokyo. they even had qualifiers for that. I assume they will ask for that again. can't IOC stop adding nonsense events like 3x3 basketball or BMX freestyle instead of dropping something else ? I wonder how many other smart idea Bach has.
  6. this is really interesting, and that makes sense, I mean Ajan was in trouble (big big trouble) after re-testing of 2008 and 2012 samples. attacking him at this time was much easier. in that report, they say he has diplomatic passport and could use it whenever necessary. this guy really had unlimited power. but I still can't believe how come he could continue doing this for such a long time. this is unbelievable. I wonder what he was doing before WADA and when IWF had total control over its own anti-doping program. I hope Urso and his friends can make a big change and change the whole IWF. also most countries have to take a look into their weightlifting federations to find possible corrupt officials., at least Iran should do that for sure. and I really hope they keep the sport at the Olympics. I know it's hard to change the culture of doping in this sport. but it's possible if they clean IWF from Ajan and his friends.
  7. I know (even though it doesn't mean national federations are not guilty here) but I mean IOC, why IOC never tried to stop him for half century ! this guy was an IOC member !!! IOC is not innocent here. it's impossible to think nobody in IOC wasn't aware of his actions, I mean I knew as a normal person ! how come IOC didn't ? we should thank German TV, ARD for that report, otherwise this guy was still at power. only death could make him go and I'm not even sure about that, he would found a way to bribe death too !
  8. I read the whole report, this pictures Tamas Ajan as devil himself while I agree with that, I wonder why nobody stopped this devil in past 45 years ?! hard to believe nobody in IOC/WADA/etc knew how corrupt he is. everybody in weightlifting community knows about him. I (as a normal sport fan) am not even an expert in this sport and I know some of his dirty actions. I really hope they kick all of his friends out of IWF, maybe they even have to destroy IWF and create something new. this organization is corrupt to the core. I think this lady Ursula Papandrea is a good person but she is surrounded by Ajan's friends.
  9. 3570 new cases today, more than any other day, all time high ! I won't be surprised if that reaches 4000 tomorrow or Saturday. no surprise at all, social distancing is dead and buried . COVID-19 is not on the headlines anymore, nobody cares and it seems almost everybody thinks this is over ! I'm very very disappointed in most of my friends, my relatives, even my own sister, most of them are highly educated but now I found out how irresponsible they are I had been mocked by some of them for being "sissy" (aka responsible) the death rate is still relatively low (what a shame to consider +50 deaths per day as low ) but we will see if that changes in a week or two with this new wave which is probably the second peak.
  10. yes that's correct, that should be "Chin" because we pronounce "Q" like "K", I thought that's French, didn't know it may have another background.
  11. I don't know and it's kind of impossible because you have to consider SO MANY things. some countries are limited to 1 or 2. some injuries, some coach decisions etc.
  12. This document by IWF explains few other things about this very complicated qualification system https://www.iwf.net/wp-content/uploads/downloads/2020/05/T2020-QS_Application-Process.pdf for example it says in case NOCs qualify more than what they can, it won't be up to them to decide, but IWF will pick the best ranked athletes, for example right now IWF would pick Shi Zhiyong, Li Dayin, Tian Tao and Chen Lijun for China men's team. Li Fabin (61kg) would miss the Games, but somewhere else in that document it says to me it means countries can make changes by reporting their athletes as injured or something for example if China wants to send Li Fabin (instead of let's say Tian Tao) they can simply write to IWF that Tian is injured and should be removed from the list.
  13. Lahestan to be accurate, actually if someone uses the word Poland/Polska I'm sure 99% will react like what ?, where is that ?! West of Africa ? and yeah, we call some other countries with different names. and I can't see a clear pattern, some of the names we use are French (like Belgium/Belgique, Germany/Allemagne, Switzerland/Suisse) some are Arabic (Egypt/Mesr, Comoros/Qamar, Jordan/Ordon, Greece/Yunan) and some of them are just different even though Poland is probably a unique case, I don't think any other country officially use the name Lachistan/Lahestan ! but I'm sure for example we are not the only one calling Netherlands as simply "Holland" ! we also enjoy to add -estan/-istan at the end of country names Bulgaria/Bolgarestan. Serbia/Serbestan, Armenia/Armanestan and there are lots of examples.
  14. let me surprise you that in Persian we also call your country as "Hindustan" (or Hendustan to be accurate) often shortened to "Hind/Hend"
  15. I mean number (and name) of events for example ... never mind @Vojthas already said that beside that if it's too early for that, I would like to know the list of non-Olympic sports, I heard about Baseball/Softball, Chess (and other versions of board games), Cricket, Jujitsu, Kabaddi, Karate, Roller sports (which disciplines ?) Sepaktakraw, Soft tennis (maybe ?), Sport Climbing and Wushu. you confirm that ?
  16. @Vic Liu Do we know the name of events (or at least the number of events for each sport) for the 2022 Asian Games in China ? or it's still too early ?
  17. only when I'm asked to. I'm not doing that just for the sake of it. actually I did that once for "sports-reference" few years ago but I think they fixed only half of them.
  18. I also see something like million mistakes for Iranian names
  19. Finally IWF published the new qualification system https://www.iwf.net/2020/05/29/ioc-approves-revised-weightlifting-olympic-qualification-system-tokyo-2020/ no revolutionary change, they just added a new period, 3.B ! from October 2020 to April 2021. and all weightlifters (even those who fulfilled 6 required participations) have to participate in at least one event in this new period.
  20. it's good to be optimistic , we will see if they can do it, I'm not optimistic though . some Asian countries are still struggling with the virus and December in Winter isn't supposed to be better. to my surprise, Iran is registered in 11 sports ! (doesn't mean they will participate in all of them) btw I hate these kind of websites, there is nothing "interesting" in them for me, just some reports and few images. what I want to know is the number of events for each sport and I always have hard time to find it for OCA events. in this official website there is just a link for each sport explaining obvious things. they never bother to publish handbooks for each sport I usually find them usually in Taiwan NOC website. but I found that somewhere else https://unitedworldwrestling.org/sites/default/files/2020-04/infos_entries_sanya2020.pdf
  21. that's simple, remove them all ! or you can keep those who are mathematically qualified Men's Kata Damian Quintero Ali Sofuoglu Antonio Diaz Mattia Busato Men's 67kg Darkhan Assadilov Steven Dacosta Men's 75kg Bahman Askari Luigi Busa Rafael Aghayev Men's +75kg Ugur Aktas *one quota is guaranteed for Iran Women's Kata Sandra Sanchez Viviana Bottaro Grace Lau Sakura Kokumai Women's 55kg Serap Ozcelik Anzhelika Terliuga Women's 61kg Yin Xiaoyan Giana Lotfy Women's +61kg Irina Zaretska Hamideh Abbasali
  22. actually Iran had more than 3000 something like 2 months ago. (with fewer tests) it went to less than 1000 for few days but almost a month after "re-opening" we see another rise in the numbers and I'm afraid it will go higher. higher than previous peak (even though still hard to compare because the number of tests are different) if you walk in the streets, some people act like the virus is gone and everything is over. what Iran did was different than any other country so maybe that makes sense to be a unique case . right now there is almost no restriction, only gatherings are still banned (sport, funeral, even religious gatherings which is huge for this regime) , schools are optional and people have to wear mask in public transport (that's only for Tehran and they are not really forcing it) nothing else. almost everybody is back to work and I have to say most of these new cases are from one province in South, which had only few cases 3 months ago. that province is now back to the complete lockdown. that's the hottest place in Iran, specially in summer the heat there is almost intolerable for non-local people. it seems the myth of heat kills the virus made people there to think they are safe and they didn't take all these advises seriously.
  23. Today was the first day of schools after the re-opening here, but since it was optional only 15% of the kids nationwide showed up ! I assume the number is close to zero in big cities.
  24. Yes, so far no "big deal" , but I have to say that scared the shit out of people mostly because of those previous experiences. we had 2 deaths and 23 injured but none of them because of the earthquake directly ! but we know people hurt themselves when they are scared after something like 4 months at least for a day corona is not in top of the headlines ! kind of interesting information since this is a sport forum, that 1990 earthquake was the worst in the modern history of Iran and killed +37000 but still it could be much much worse if it wasn't for a football match that kept so many people awake after the midnight and they could survive. 1990 World Cup match between Brazil and Costa Rica.
  25. we definitely don't laugh at earthquakes. small or big. because we still remember two deadly recent earthquakes, Bam (2003) and Manjil/Roudbar (1990) . each of them killed around 30000 people. we always consider anything related to earthquakes very serious. and yes the standard isn't that great, everybody knows that everybody is afraid of a possible earthquake in Tehran, and we know it will be a huge disaster, very populated with big buildings, and this one was serious and woke up so many people . we are told to be careful for next few hours (and if possible not sleep) because they don't know if that was the main one or the worse is yet to come. from what I see so many people are spending the night on the streets. even in my neighborhood half people are sleeping the night in their cars. interestingly I didn't feel anything ! even though I live in west of Tehran, the source was in east. and for a reason, earthquakes here always happen in middle of the night,
