At the halfway mark, the difference between the third place and twelfth place is only 0.799. Currently, Jake Jarman sits in 12th. I have a feeling I know where this will end.

Up to 6th after four rotations and cut the deficit to 0.566 so he has a chance. Still no way he closes the gap, right?

  2. For example, if we went by last season's results, Canada and Japan (along with no promotion for Uruguay) would have been relegated. I can tell you now the men's team funding would have been cut by more than it already has. Japan might still get funding due to being a favourite for an Olympic quota, but probably a lot less.

I fear for what would happen to nations like Kenya or Samoa who have had bad seasons in the past. It could kill their program if they are not in the top level.

But the real information from this first day is that the World Series will go from 16 to 12 teams next year !

This is a very poor move and will create a further gap between the top nations and the rest.

Even if we assume the Challenger Series will have a proper schedule (say 6 stops), funding for the national teams will be a big issue. Some of the core teams are already struggling and it will be more so because nobody wants to heavily fund a "division II" team.

  4. I missed the final due to meetings, so now that I had a chance I went to check the results hoping Canada finished somewhere better than 8th. Instead I was greeted with a bronze medal finish AND our first Olympic quota. It took everything to not scream out in joy and alert my coworkers of me not working.

While they were the only team to improve their score, it still required everyone else to have an off day. Still, we take those. Like I said, the balance beam is the difference maker in this event and us finishing second in it was a huge contributor to our bronze medal. I'm just glad we won't have to wait until 2023 to qualify our first athletes.

  5. I was curious, so here are the top qualification round scores of Pan American nations from the most recent World Championships and South American Games (since they were held so close together). I removed the :USA athletes which already qualified an Olympic quota. Unsurprisingly, :USA is the favourite in most events where they have the highest score in 9/12 events. Just as a heads up, Canada, Cuba and Guatemala were missing some of their top athletes at the World Championships so things may get shaken up during the actual event.
