  1. You are more than welcome here. I am looking forward to that event as well. My only concern is that our so-called “government” might do something really awful (even more than their actions so far) in the 2 next years, so one or more important countries boycott this WCh. But lets hope this is not happening (it would be very bad for the athletes anyway) I will plan to attend Paris 2024 as well. I am more interested in the niche sports does well in (e.g. canoe kayak, waterpolo), attend some of the newer sports, and try to get tickets to one of the big sports (athletics, gymnastics, swimming). Accommodation will be key
  2. Good point, I agree on the names mentioned, definitely Mihalyvari Farkas is one to watch
  3. Probably there are many from but for example: (I hope) Salim Omar (taekwondo) Ajna Kesely (swimming) Istvan Peni (shooting)
  4. Plus it also depends on whether there is a “core” or regular user of this community (who post a lot anyway) who is a fan of a particular, less widely followed sport
  5. I already checked the program for Beijing, and a number of sports I will want to watch (bobsleigh, luge, ski jumping definitely) will have finals or even most events in the evening Beijing time, so definitely watchable for me during the day in Europe. The rest I want to follow (e.g. snowboard) I will watch in replay from the Player.
  6. Coates admits key Olympic Charter changes targetted at IWF as IOC Session approves amendments https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1111402/ioc-passes-charter-changes-weightlifting IOC vice-president John Coates admitted the latter came in response to the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), which he said had failed to follow several clear directions from the Executive Board to improve its doping culture and repair its governance. If they use these powers only to make an ultimatum to the IWF, I am fine with it. Probably the last chance to pressure them to clear out from the leadership the Ajánists, the corrupt old guard, the enablers of doping and doping coverup, put in place the reformed charter which was drawn up (elegibility requirement for leadership, doping controls etc.), and so on. The persons in question can decide if they want to continue in power (and thereby say goodbye to the IOC money) or give in to save their sport. Its up to the current leadership.
  7. Dont know about ESP specifically, but someone wrote here that broadcaster's have exclusivity to the content up to 31 Dec 2021. So they would be fools if they did not keep it until then at least, after they have paid for the exclusivity in the region concerned (Europe, exc UK, FR, and RU in this case)
  8. Exactly my position. On skateboarding, to be fair with them, I think the women's skateboarding currently is in (quite rapid) development. I am not an expert but I would say this also explains why the competitors there were much younger than in the men's field. Probably in a few years we will see much more consistent performances. I can only speak on what I have experience with, but for example women's waterpolo did develop a lot since it was introduced to the Olympics in 2000.
  9. I dont consider the situation so disappointing from perspective. We were 1 more gold medal away from 11th place. And the result we had in London (8-4-6) when we had 10th place in the totals, would land us 11th place as well
  10. I think canoe-kayak will have the same number of events in total, 2 will be cut from sprint but 2 will be added to slalom. From my point of view, weightlifting is still 10 events too many In sport climbing, the splitting of speed climbing and lead/boulder climbing is more than welcome I can just hope break dance is an one off for 2024 Dont get why is so important to reduce athlete numbers. I get the point of not increasing, but why it has to be reduced? Probably this is one of the many fake, BS activities of the IOC, this time to show that they are actively trying to reduce the cost of the SOG (which is of course not much influenced by + or - 500 athletes) In my language we call it faux or "ersatz" activity or act, when you do something meaningless or pointless, just with the intention to show the outside world that you are working to address an issue or a problem, or that you care about it.
  11. Greece isn't in the continental time zone either. They are ahead of us 1 hour like Romania, Finland etc. But it did not matter like I'd did not matter with the -1 hour difference in London. It was one of the many factors why for me London was the greatest Olympics of the XXI century
  12. I watched the OG on the Eurosport 90%+ of the time but as I gathered public television kept changing from its main event coverage for a brief time when a Hungarian competitor was coming up somewhere else. So I can imagine that they have shown live only the 2 brief segments where the were riding/running/shooting etc and then changed back to what they were showing originally. But the whole event, no way of course
  13. Last time there were much more Americans among the most medal holders (3 or more golds): Phelps 5-1-0 Ledecky 4-1-0 Biles 4-0-1 Murphy 3-0-0 Non Americans: Hosszú 3-1-0 Kozák 3-0-0 Jason Kenny 3-0-0 Usain Bolt 3-0-0 Now it's only Dressel from the US with 5-0-0, while there are 5 non Americans (2 Australian swimmers, Thompson, An San and Carrington)
  14. Let's hope it stays so (meaning you get that 4th in the end)
  15. Hats off to ! At this rate they really get to the 8 gold medals by tomorrow afternoon.
  16. The race between and for the 4th place will go down to the wire
  17. The Russians are probably fuming of anger that someone else dared to win in their own sport. The "offending" judges may expect a nice package in the mail with some polonium (a la Litvinenko) or Novichok (a la Skripal)....
  18. Probably both of you were right. Brundage was a horrible person even to his day's standards (so by not judging someone by the standards of our day), and Samaranch (together with Nebiolo and their "shared" business cronies) did a lot of damage due to extreme corruption and tolerance of widespread doping (not only in the communist bloc) ed: sorry I see that he talks about Brundage's immediate sucessor. My comment about Samaranch still stands, but of course he was not weak and ineffective.
  19. I looked it up back to '48. Excluding Moscow, they won only 400 hurdles in '76, but no post 1948 Olympics when they did not win at least one gold on mens track (including hurdles).
  20. Probably this pole vault is the first time during the athletics competition when I am glad that won On the other hand, no individual gold medal for them in men's track events (and only 1 chance left in the relay). When did this last happen?
  21. Wow again 3 4th places by very small margins for We will be up in the 4th place counter
  22. Should I now complain that the competitor only won because of doping? /sarcasm
  23. By the way, how did he react to team pursuit gold? (With a WR)
