  1. Montreal, Canada. But the International Testing agency is indeed in Lausanne (like the IOC) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Anti-Doping_Agency
  2. The first part means "Go, king of Poland" - not sure who they refer to (I assume its a Polish athlete) And the last is something like "take over the Orient" or "capture the Orient" - i.e. "take Beijing by storm" meaning perform exceptionally well I am not native Italian speaker just trying to find out by logic. Maybe native Italian speakers can add something which was lost to me
  3. I watched this live (did not see the 2018 gold live and after the other Liu being sort of robbed in the 1000m I promised I will stop watching short track), but finally he did! As it is said "Fate plays for a draw" - 1 gold (sort of) taken away, 1 gold won. And few days before the OG it wasnt even sure that Liu Shaoang can compete - now he goes home with 1 gold and 2 bronze...
  4. In principle I would not mind. But as things stand now, Russia might start a war against the whole world in retaliation Maybe they will launch missile strikes against Lausanne (where the IOC is located)
  5. Problem is: This could be influenced two ways: 1./ Internal change inside the Russian system - this is impossible as only the athletes concerned could initiate it (no one else in Russia is interested in terminating Russia's doping policies) and they either don't want to jeopardize their own position (life is unhappy, brutish and short in Putinist Russia unless you are rich & famous) or if they do, they will be sidelined as they are only objects in order to attain the greater goal - glory to Mother Russia 2./ Enough other country athletes / sponsors make a fuss that they are not willing to compete / sponsor if Russian doping is not sorted out. This is a typical coordination problem from game theory - they could make a difference if they acted together in a coordinated way but for several reasons this is unlikely to happen. Given the fact that the Olympics are overseen by an organisation that is world leading in corruption & hipocrisy (the IOC) the most likely solution is some kind of "muddling through" - maybe Russia is warned that they will be punished real hard if they don't sort out doping by 2024 - and then nothing happens. Sorry for Valieva though, she is a really talented young athlete, too bad she is used this way for power political purposes.
  6. Congratulations @hckošice! I guess Petra now maybe gets an airport named after her (like C Ronaldo)
  7. When I first opened the thread this morning at this post about Dear Leader I believed that Comrade Xi himself made an appearance. Then I saw it was Mr. 1976 Fencing
  8. Ledecká Plus, Slovenia is on fire this OG. Amazing performance!
  9. Eurosport in Hungarian published some details from the chairman of swimming federation: - Due to cost savings there will be no extreme or high diving event - Duna Arena will host the swimming and diving events - Both artistic swimming and part of water polo will be in 2 different venues on Margaret Island (Margit sziget) - Open water will be held on Lupa lake inside Budapest, venue of last European Championship held in Hungary - During the group stage of water polo, 2-2 groups will be held at venues in Szeged, Debrecen and Sopron (these are venues built in the last few years) - No additional seats will be provided in Duna Arena, unlike in 2017 (open air venues for open water and water polo on Margitsziget might have additional temporary seats as it is easier and cheaper to build)
  10. Well, the joint criminal enterprise (officially known as the "government" of ) going to steal either way, at least now I get something out of it :D There should be some new arrangement with regards to the next competitions. Having one every year up to 2025 is insane
  11. Is it possible to watch training runs somewhere?
  12. For me the biggest challenge is how to coordinate watching Short track speed skating (only sport ians are competitive in), ski jumping and luge (and when its over bobsleigh). Several days 2 or 3 of them begin around 12.00-12.30 European continental time Otherwise quite manageable as most of snowboard & freestyle ski is at night/early morning European time anyway, so I will watch it from ES player or cable TV re-watch menu (same is for those bob&skeleton races which are during the night)
  13. It seems as reported by people doing OSINT (open source intelligence) that part of the Russian ships out on the Baltic sea are heading to the Black sea Which seems consistent with the Moscow regime's more immediate goals. Putin might be stupid but he is not crazy - he knows that attacking Sweden or Finland means war with the Western powers.
  14. You can still advance if you defeat while loses against (I would say both are more than likely)
  15. In this you are right. They should have said this outright, even if it means less $ for them if the No 1 doesn't play in their tournament
  16. Also very funny how the nihilistic wing of the Anglo-American right has latched onto this issue (many of them didn't care about tennis before) Then you have someone like Farage who spent his political career on advocating Brexit in order for Britain to control its borders as they see fit - now being angry about Australia wanting to control its borders as they see fit... :D
  17. But in this case the selection is consistent with the rankings posted here. Would it be also possible for for example to select Eitberger or any other competitor who is lower in the ranking list?
  18. The final standings here are also indicative of the final (national) team rosters? In other words, for example, in doubles we know and both have 2 quotas, so based on the standings is it sure that Eggert/Benecken and Wendl/Artl, and Sics/Sics + Bots/Plume will go to the Olympics? Or will national federations have any leeway with regards to how they use their quotas?
  19. Dont get why Aboriginal or not would play any role in this case. As far as I saw, backlash from AU citizens was almost general (except maybe part of ethnic Serbs in Australia), irrespective of ethnic background. Agree with those who say the main responsibility is with the politicians. Probably the reasoning was “we need the No 1 to come here and play no matter what, hopefully the rubes will not notice he is not vaccinated”. Well it turned out differently. Even said that, the martyrology built around Djokovic by some (such as his father) was laughable. His suffering is comparable to Jesus’s, of course LMAO. Wonder when the compulsory Nazi Germany / concentration camp analogy will come (among Covidiots in particular it is fashionable after all with regards to everything Covid)
  20. Maybe it was deleted, but I read in some threads today that our good friend and cancellation expert Orangehair accused Italy being in league with dictatorships like China. No, thats not Italy but the criminal regime of Viktor Orban which (apparently) actually think s***ing up to people like Xi is beneficial to his countries' interests. But still, not having a diplomatic boycott of Beijing 2022 is not equal to being "Pro China" or "Pro Xi". I think its not fair to put countries who simply dont participate in the power political games du jour in the same category with spineless corrupt criminals like Orban
  21. Good. It seems check-mate for Babis, at last (he will try to form government but as of now, 2 of 4 parties in parlament dont want to work with him, and he has no majority with the far-right, even if he wanted to govern with them). If this stands, another of the international allies of Orbanism bites the dust. Prepares: Janez Jansa and Jair Bolsonaro next year.
