  1. This is what I am debating as well (whether or not I should continue to use this forum). I have a number of nicks already on ignore (mostly simple trolls, and culture-war trolls) But an user going to your FB page to attack you - wow that's just another level Of course I don't visit the politics thread at all, as a I don't come here for discussing politics and the last thing I want is to debate foreign admirers of V. Orban, the despicable "prime minister" of my unfortunate country.
  2. One more thing. It would be interesting to know what the Japanese people (in Japan at least) are thinking about Naomi Osaka's role in the ceremony. Do they like it, do they dislike it? If someone speaks Japanese or has access to Japanese press, feel free to look it up in the coming days.
  3. It's even more ironic that "woke Olympics" was a US Republican / "conservative" talking point even before this ceremony for a couple of weeks and here it is uttered by a commenter from India
  4. To which the appropriate solution is not that you too insult whole countries, regions, and peoples (sadly I cannot qoute here all those instances because a good number of your posts have been removed because of this very readon)
  5. Wut? 5 years ago it was overrun by far-leftists instead of the loud (but I think still in the minority) culture-warrior "right" contingent of the present day? So the political compass swung from one end to the other?
  6. People who criticize or are upset on N. Osaka being the person lighting the cauldron (I am not, honestly, I do not care much either) might have one legitimate point (or half-point): together with sporting merit, real or perceived media/advertisement value might have played a role in the selection, given the fact that this Olympics is being followed exclusively on television and online platforms, not personally/locally. Predictably, there is (and will be, especially from US fake "conservatives" and their foreign imitators) a lot of culture-war whining, which I completely dismiss and disagree with.
  7. Its not worth debating with rajiv. Since I read his/her rambling posts, they denounced/insulted "Eastern Europe" (this together), Germany, Italy, and a bunch of other countries and regions. Might even be a troll.
  8. Important to add though that the match in question was in beach handball, not regular one. The rule they allegedly broke is stupid anyway.
  9. Please note that on the issue of which sports ppl prefer there is much less polarization than on political party support. Neither is any "incentive" to not to tell the pollster their true opinion (e.g. due to social desirability bias) or intentionally tell not the real one in order to deceive the pollster (happens with political polls for some people) Methodological challenges do arise though (how they reach respondents, what is the response rate etc.)
  10. So apple TV has an eurosport player app? Didnt know. I have an LG TV (WebOS) and it definitely doesn't (WebOS platform is closed, so content provider has to develop application directly for this purpose). And streaming from computer to TV is hit and miss (works from ipad to tv with AirPlay but doesn't always from Windows PC to tv) Not for this Olympics, but I will definitely look this up.
  11. Hungary's Nemzeti Sport writes that Hungarian athletes are on floor 3,4 and 5 of building 19, and Morocco & Switzerland are on the floor above them
  12. There were no good solutions to this one. If they cancel, like the public opinion demands it would be another 1980 or 1984 just this time for the athletes of every country. If they go on then it can be claimed that public opinion overwhelmingly opposed the games and it was a symbol of tone deafness of the IOC leadership to organise this. I think the final assessment will depend a lot on how the covid situation evolves during the Games. If it will be like the cancelled F1 Australian GP 2020 (a cascading, escalating series of COVID-19 cases, important athletes/teams missing competition because of quarantine, constantly changing directives or approaches by organizers, etc.) then the opponents will be vindicated. If it goes relatively smoothly, then I think post mortem will be that it was not a "full experience" Olympics but it was still worth holding it to avoid another 1980/84 situation for athletes (of course what they really care about is the NBC/other rightholders' money)
  13. I can confirm that Eurosport 4K has been launched on one of the major cable TV/internet providers in Hungary a few weeks ago. Would be surprised if they didn't show the Olympics on it. Availability is restricted though.
  14. That's why I wrote yesterday that in place of the players concerned I would stay away from social media for a few weeks. The bird-brained contingent of alleged "fans" did not disappoint, as expected.
  15. Congrats for Italy BTW! My sister is down in Sicily right now, she will be able to witness the fiesta first hand…
  16. Well in place of those 3 English players I would stay away from social media for a few weeks….
  17. To be fair, on Tshikhon(/-han) "convicted drug cheat" is an almost PC expression...
  18. Indeed (speaking about the London games in general). For me, 1992 was the peak of modern XX century Olympics, and the same way, 2012 was the peak of XXI century Olympics. Dont even know whether it is going to be surpassed, even though we are only at the second decade of XXI. c. :D :D
  19. This is the document the screenshots are from, with more interesting background info (not only technical) on OG broadcasts https://www.obs.tv/prx/asset.php?tgt=OBSMediaGuide-Tokyo2020-June2021-5f0ea6ff37b8.pdf&gen=1
  20. I can answer to the second question: for me probably handball mens team - but they did not even get into the qualifier. Sometimes the problem is not that there is no funding for a given sport, but there is too much of it. IMO this is one of the problems in our handball for a number of years - lot of money with not efficient use of it and no development in crucial areas (coach development for instance) despite the huge amount of €€€€ spent.
  21. If you have time, can you do this also for overall medal chances (not only gold) for in these events?
  22. You are real fanatics then I think I will reserve my staying-up-all-night time for a few choice events, mostly finals of Milak and/or Hosszu and maybe some key matches in Handball or Water polo where Hungary is involved (most of those will be played in times more friendly to European time zones anyway, at least with WP) Otherwise I will watch what is live at between 0700-0100 CET (1400 to 0800 Tokyo) or catch up with on demand streaming hopefully on Eurosport Player.
