  2. It's a matter of choice of values at the end. You want a 100% meritocratic approach while IOC and IFs have a criteria of balance between merit and continental representation. "Fair" means a different thing according to different values. Only the new sports (which have so few quotas) can't observe full continental representation and are the exception to this IOC criteria.
  3. Australia isn't part of Oceania in football.
  4. wow Canada destroyed Italy 7-0 They have been superb during this tournament, even tied Spain and topped the group. Too bad despite this they are certain to get one of England, Germany or NZ in the play-offs. I think however with this level they have a legitimate chance to get a silver at the pan american games. Italy is sure to play the play-offs as well, this loss doesn't change much for them.

  6. I always arrive late to the info but today I noticed that the first week of the games has quite literally NOTHING to watch other than gymnastics. lol who made this schedule and why didn't they make the logical decision to place athletics during the first week?
  7. to Tokyo. Congrats. I wonder just how many people won money betting today.
  8. @konig with -almost- one month to go I give my final medal prediction for the argentinian chances at the pan american games. I have no idea of our current level in Speed Skating and Water ski so I left them with "?" marks here, though I know there should be medals in both sports, especially in water ski with Ditsch, De armas and Giorgis. What do you think? (please don't quote this big post). EDITED July 2nd after some team announcements from other countries. 10. Yes, I'm 100% sure they count. The eurohockey is held every 2 years and they both count for the ranking. Asia has the asia cup but only every 4 years because they count the asian games as their continental ch. in the middle. It's the same with America and the panamerican games. In fact, it's not exactly the latest continental championship that gives the points for ranking, it's the average placement in the last 4 years of "continental cups". That is, the last two tournaments of each continent.
  11. Pro League: 1st place 700 pts, 9th place 475 pts. Hockey Series: 1st place 500 pts, 2nd place 400 pts. The winner of a hockey series tournament (Canada, India, France) earns the same points as the 8th place of the pro league (New Zealand). I have two big doubts: a) If Pakistan will earn points for 9th place in pro league (I'd guess not, but I don't know for sure). b) If the points for the asian games are already being counted or not. When I check the ranking sheet Japan still has points for "Asia 5th", which is strange given they won the games. I guess the points of all continental championships will be counted only when all of them are finished? In my opinion there won't be any relevant changes in rankings before play-offs except for France, who I think will surpass China.
  12. Delpo will miss the rest of the season. Which means he will drop to 150-something in ranking and then win the gold medal in Tokyo. Maybe, probably
  13. Lol I correctly predicted all the results from group B. I know our team too well.
  14. Argentina World Champions after an exhausting 10 innings-long battle!! history made. Now we have to win the pan am games and also develop the women's team in long term.
  15. Something hilarious: FIVB announced that Iran is the 1st team qualified for the final 6 but they actually are NOT qualified yet. FIVB is wrong. Today Iran played France with almost all substitutes and lost 3-0 someone tell them before it's too late.
  16. Argentina and Japan will play the final of the men's World championship. Historic first final for our team
  17. Olympics are meaningless for men's football. Nobody cares, not FIFA, not the best players, not the federations. London was the last semi-serious tournament, Rio was a complete joke already, Tokyo I don't want to imagine. The clubs have become too powerful and they are more greedy than ever before. Sure, those kids that go and play will care. However us as spectators or fans.... I'm not sure it's even worth watching in such conditions.
  18. I don't get why anyone would care about olympic qualification in men's football. The top players won't be released by the clubs. It's likely that not even the top players of this tournament (played in June) would be allowed to play in Tokyo (in August, so in pre-season). Everyone except Japan will be there with their C u23 team.
  19. The main problem is the south america-africa play-off. It should be a world qualification tournament with an european, asian and north american team as well. It's likely that we will see France needing to beat USA to qualify, which is extremely tough but also very arbitrary.
  20. I really hope you didn't follow today's game...
  21. Colombia and Perú keep losing to Argentina in all the relevant matches (The qualifications for OG and WCh). Those are the only serious matches, in which the teams play with all their best players. The big ranking points are also in those two tournaments, not in pan am cup, grand prix, whatever. That doesn't matter. If Colombia and Perú want to prove they worth, they should do in the upcoming south american olympic qualifiers. If they lose again... they deserve to be there.
  22. What a waste, now you have to beat Korea and Ireland to qualify. Same happened to Chile in women's today, they wasted their win with Japan by losing to Russia.
  23. I think the system is only in place for the olympic tournament, the world series qualifiers and the u20 World championship of the XVs. It's not that many. The olympics should really be 2 groups of 6 like most other team sports. Maybe scrap the quarterfinals and go directly to semis if it's too much games for rugby.
  24. I wouldn't be surprised if they tie or lose to Paraguay or Qatar. This is simply a complete disaster of a team. There is no tactics, weak players in key positions (CDM, CBs), and worst of all... no attitude in most players. Today only Messi, De Paul and Lo Celso looked like they cared a bit about the match.
  25. Because there is overlap with pan am games and the priority is the games for any of our athletes. From this year on our NOC has a new policy: if you don't win a pan american medal you lose all funding. The only exception is winning a World championship medal, which she can do with a mark like this, but it's far from sure, so.... better play it safe. Also it doesn't help that WCH is Korea, exactly the opposite side of the world. If they were in USA or west Europe I think our swimmers (or at least her) would have tried both.
