intoronto got a reaction from AliciasBlade in Summary of your NOC peformance in Beijing 2022 olympics
Canada had a lot of bad luck at these games. 26 medals is a good result (tied with 2010 for second highest ever, but down from 4 years ago's 29).
4 gold medals is a disaster. Own the Podium's goal is to be the #1 nation in winter sport (sadly I think this means overall medals, not necessarily golds) by 2030 or 2034. In 2016, the OTP and the national federations realized not funding the future would eventually come to a games where Canada struggled, and these would be those games. Besides snowboarding, all NF's likely did not meet their goals for these games. The future does sort of look bright? But if Canada wants to own the podium, it will need to win medals in the nordic disciplines. A review is currently underway which could see all four Nordic Nf's merged under one banner, which tbh would be smart at this point. I hope this is just a blip in the radar for Canada and in 2026, we bounce back.

Shooting will have the same number of quotas (256) as in 2019 and same sports program as in Paris. All available quotas will be handed out at the 2022 Pan American Shooting Championships in November, with the winners of each individual event (24 quotas) at the CAC and South American Games also being awarded a quota.

Here's a summary for weightlifting qualification (in Spanish)
Basically they are using the combined team scores from the 2021 and 2022 Pan American Championships and awarding quotas based on nation rankings.

The men have also qualified to the World Aquatics Championships (women were already qualified). Though it looks like Argentina is starting to become a major player in our continent after just barely losing to Canada and Brazil

Nothing too unexpected.
There's a rule that at least three nations must compete for the event to be valid (this might happen in some events), additionally for the mixed events, the crews must be mixed (so no single gender crews qualifying quotas).
Hopefully the other sports publish their qualification pathway soon.

intoronto reacted to heywoodu in Artistic Gymnastics FIG World Cup 2022
Just out of sincere curiousity and in no way meant as an 'attacking' question: how would it be fair to athletes (other than this Kuliak dude) to take away medals they won fair and square (presumably) weeks before their government decided to attack another nation? It won't 'teach them a lesson', because government and people won't care, and the only ones who do care (the athletes) had nothing to do with the whole thing.

intoronto got a reaction from orangeman in Short Track Speed Skating
Florence Brunelle just became a triple World Champion at the World Junior Championships (500, 1000 and 3000 m relay), Ann-Sophie Bachand also won silver in the 500 and looked really good. If they both continue, along with Kim Boutin and Courtney Sarault, we have a strong foursome for Milan 2026.
The men on the other hand, NO MEDALS since 2016, and that was won by, you guessed it Steven Dubois.

Sorry my mistake. It's not Frances first medal, but probably first relay medal ever.
