No, that's currently not possible. But you can "IGNORE" users, which is surely more useful an you show me the community whtere is this option? I will check if it's the same CMS we are using here, if so maybe there is a plugin which allows us to add this. Anyway, I think ignoring certain forums/threads would be useful only not to display them in the "Latest Replies" box. For the rest of situations, you just can avoid opening it if you are not interested. By the way, I am woking on a way to get to this. Maybe not exactly filtering through the calendar, but reaching the aim of your proposal: adding a customised calendar with only the events of that sport when you are navigating into a single sport's section.
