this Aman guy is a gold medal threat in Paris, you heard it first from me and this Ramazanov was good shopping for Bulgaria after getting lots of low level Russian wrestlers, this guy looks good and will be a medal chance in Paris but not sure if they finished his paperwork in time to wrestle at the qualifiers. ------------------------------------------------------- for Iran this tournaments acts as our trials in freestyle. last year team members (only successful ones) vs the challengers (national winners) we had 5 wrestlers today, at 86kg our main guy Yazdani is injured so it was supposed to be just a test for the challenger guy but he got the "bad draw" and had to withdraw 65 and 74 were important, 2022 World Champion Rahman Amzouad beat his Iranian opponent and booked his place at the Olympics but withdrew from the final vs Tevanyan (booo ) but 74 kg "trial" ended up in a disaster our better guy Emami narrowly lost to the other guy Abouzari 4-4 and Abouzari got manhandled in the final 10-1 against USA #2 (or maybe #3) guy I really hope they consider this. sending Abouzari to the Asian QT will be a huge huge gift for the Asian wrestlers.

Obviously we don't have the depth of China and India to have a long and complicated selection policy I don't even know what was their policy for this tournament, because for example Najmeh Khedmati won the nationals few days ago in this event but yet they registered her as RPO and she couldn't shoot in the final despite her very good qualification result. actually I can't remember they ever publish a policy. I remember before Tokyo they said they will send the most in-form shooter but at the end they sent exactly the same team (whoever wins the quota) I assume that's just easier for them. if athlete A won the quota and they send someone else, there will be lots of protests from "A" and his/her province officials. obviously our shooting is not doing well, 2023 was a complete disaster with no quota at the Asian Champs and just 1 bronze at the Asian Games. lack of money is the main issue, in this sport you need more international competition and Iran doesn't participate in non olympic qualification events. also I don't think the current coaches are good enough. yet Iran was close to win the quota few times, the guy you mentioned Pourhosseini narrowly missed the quota here finishing 4th Foroughi himself missed the final by the narrowest possible margin. I mean it was badluck too.

So... Ireland is 48 ahead of 8th place at the moment but I think the medal race splits from the "last race" for the others. Meaning the best points total any of the non-top 10 can finish is 11 Meaning and have qualified with already in the medal race and through to Paris too

Because Hungary is playing with very few of their top players as they have already qualified for the olympics, it's pretty much a B (or maybe even C) roster. While Italy has not yet qualified and plays with exactly the same roster compared to the last world championship.

@Topicmaster1010 volleyball team size just increased from 12 to 13 (one additional alternate due to injury) I guess that means I can tell the future, huh? I personally wish the Olympic roster was 14 players, with no alternates, but it’s better than nothing I guess.

It is in terms of athletes (as far as I know), but not exactly the sports. Julia Reis will indeed do cross-country skiing, but Mariana Silva will be doing biathlon. Nobody really understands why, because in the only IBU Junior Cup in which both competed, Julia was 14 minutes (!) ahead of her, but alright, the ever so mysterious ways of Brazil's snow sports federation I guess I'll ask if the boys are correct, or if one of them is also going to do biathlon. Edit: Mariana will apparently do both cross-country and biathlon, while Julia will only do cross-country.

Bei den Wasserball-Männern geht es heute auch schon um die letzte Hoffnung auf Olympia. Bei einer Niederlage gegen Montenegro wäre klar, dass die WM und damit die letzte Chance auf ein Olympiaticket verpasst wird. Last event of afternoon session just wrapped up with finishing just ahead of in Men's Team Pursuit with finishing in 3rd. finished in 5th place and will ride against in the 1st round. GB could do with them being a bit off the pace tonight as they look to close the gap on the Olympic quota spot.

top the qualifying for Women's Team Pursuit ahead of and although worth saying that this whilst this was the same Italian squad as the World Champs, GB didn't have their strongest rider - Katie Archibald. Germany will be happy to be above GB in qualifying but perhaps worried about the gap to Italy - in Glasgow they were only 0.3 seconds behind but here they were 1.9 seconds adrift. were able to dust themselves off to take the restart and finish in 5th place.

First real surprise of the competition - DNF in the Women's Team Pursuit. They were putting together a great performance and leading the competition before they had a crash after the 2km mark so are currently showing as DNF. If I remember correctly from Glasgow, they would be allowed to ride again to get a qualifying time, if the same squad are passed as fit to ride but I could be wrong about that.

Men's Team Sprint qualifying complete with and taking the top 3 spots. Compared to last year's WC, seemed to drop back a little (although they did field a different team this time around) and will be a bit disappointed to finish behind having been ahead of them in Glasgow.

Women's Team Sprint qualifying completed with no surprises - and separated by just 0.061 seconds. Basically looks like we are heading towards a repeat of the result from last year's world championships for the European nations.

It has been said for the past two years that she would probably not be able to compete at the 2024 Olympics because our Olympic committee needed to "agree" to the switch or something. I'm not familiar with this process but it seems that as long as she doesn't have our approval, she will have to wait until Los Angeles 2028. The president of our Olympic committee said that they are not going to help her compete for another country. Of course there is still time for her to qualify as a Greek athlete and compete at the Olympics if she qualifies in one of the upcoming regattas under our flag, and our Olympic committee has made it clear that they will "support" her if she chooses to do so, but she has made it clear that she would rather skip these Olympics than compete for Greece. FYI she has had issues since 2017 with our sailing federation and after the Tokyo Olympics she said she had enough.

Uruguay is also mathematically qualified, if I’m not mistaken, as their net score could not surpass 205, meaning also Brazil has a quota.

Random, but I did think one really good thing about the Tokyo Olympics was the bigger team sizes. Some sports (Soccer especially) have precariously small roster sizes. It's especially weird because alternates travel anyway, I don't think there is anything wrong putting them on the roster and letting them play as needed (make teams bear the expenses for those extra players for all I care).
