  18. As with the African qualifier, we have numerous precedents... Nicaragua will make their debut in rowing. Guatemala qualified for the first time since 1984, since 1988. Dominican Republic and Panama can still hope for a rowing debut.

  19. Right. In case Peru goes for the bigger boat, Panama would get their redemption.

  21. So quota for and in LW2x. Chile will have to choose between M1x and LM2x, and Peru between M1x and LW2x If both go with the larger boats, then Nicaragua will be definitely in and also the NOC which won the C final in M1x.

  25. Mexico, Paraguay qualify via W1x. Cuba got better than 6th, so no joy for Nicaragua (in this event).

  26. Or select any of the two if the Cuban woman also finish 6th, which could bring several outcomes for qualification.

  28. The Pan-American championships were scheduled to be held between April 8-11. The ICF will activate its contingency plan to allocate the quotas based on previous event results, in consultation and with the final approval of the International Olympic Committee executive committee. This means either using the World Championships or a bust.

  30. Pretty much, worst case scenario 2/3 of those nations will qualify. For Nicaragua they need two of to qualify elsewhere as everyone who is qualified in Final B is guaranteed to have a higher placing boat in a different event.

  34. It might be why they’re going for it more than other countries. All the other countries on the bubble already have a guaranteed quota, so it’s only a bonus quota for them. Also, I see nothing wrong with Lithuania entering a relay. I actually quite like the new qualification system. I do think it could be refined here and here, but overall it seems to be a good qualification system. It’s increased the importance of the World Championships for smaller countries, added a little more tension, and has a fair distribution of quotas that both encourages participation of smaller countries, and still rewards those at the top.
