  1. Hi folks, Irish man here. Been tracking our qualification and medal hopes for about 3/4 games now. Only discovered this place recently and have lurked for a couple of weeks. Hoping to contribute as Tokyo approaches

  7. It's not exactly a News, that Germany biggest medal chances here are on the very last day of the World Championships (Long Jump women and Javelin men). A glance on the schedule would tell you. At this stage of the WC I expected one medal, and this is exactly what we got. Though I expected Hussong to be the medalist. Though I still have some hope for a Decathlon medal. Kaul had a pretty good first day, only roughly 30 Points behind his PB. And his second day is the much stronger one, particularly Javelin and 1500m. It will be very difficult, though, since Victor is in excellent shape. If Victor continues like this, I think he will not only win Bronze but also defeat Warner for Silver.

  10. I don't think she can go for any of those...she needs 979 points for Ennis' score and more than 1000 for the 7000 pts mark... and 2.12 only gives around 930/940 points...she should go for a 2.10 mark to beat Ennis and for something around 2.06/2.07 for the 7000 pts mark...

  16. to me, it was perfectly legal...she should get the gold medal, imho... the problem is that they won't strip the Chinese from her gold medal in any case, which would make it a farce...

  17. Well, Baumgart in Lane 2 and Swiety in Lane 9. I'd say they'd have a better chance for a good result if they switched lanes. Long-legged Baumgart tends to do better on the outside lanes tbh.

  21. in Athletics, the only married couple to win Gold in the same day are the Zatopeks (Emil and Dana)...Helsinki 1952... then, if we look at other sports, well, the list is quite long...in figure skating (both on the ice and roller skating) there are quite a good number of lifemates who won gold in the same event and same day... but there's only one couple of 2 married people of the same sex to win the Olympic Gold medal in the same day (and event) so far...Kate Walsh and Helen Richardson of the British field hockey team...

  23. maybe he has some family ties with the army, but personally he's a pro athlete (sponsored by Adidas) and a Florida Gators student (he was supposed to be part of the American Football team -he was recruited for that, as he was one of the top prospects coming from the high school football system- but finally he decided to go for the T&F career rather than AF...at least for now...maybe if he wins in Tokyo next year he could leave T&F a switch back to football)...

  33. We have a number of guys over 22m and several other well over 21,50 this season so the Q standard here seems extremely generous tbh. If you can't throw 20,90 you're basically a modern day scrub.

  34. Sorry, I knew that. I just meant their performances before today didn't lead me to believe they were contenders for the quota. I thought it was a 3 way fight between Ireland, Italy and Spain Colombia are very much in that fight now.

  39. Saw the bout to get a sense of it First round - Fadda dominated clearly her round Second round - More even in terms of punches hitting , The MGL boxer fell down after a blow , : I would give to Fadda again Third Round - Faddas punches were a bit wild , MGL landed more punches and more effective than camilla - I would give the Round to MGL Overall though I felt Fadda was dominant and I would expect a 4-1 or 5-0 in her favour , a 3-2 was ridiculous , The judges who ruled in Fadda gave it 30-27 ,whereas the others gave it marginally to MGL ......... Just another of AIBAs Crap decisions

  41. They said Halasz achieved that result in R1 and he would have approached the rest of the competition differently had he known it was a failure. Polish team agreed that awarding two bronze medals was the best solution and IAAF concurred.

  48. The ban came yesterday but the facts have been known for years. Details of the decisions are available to everyone, if the media don't know them they're doing a bad job. Hard to believe that top professional athletes don't know that the head coach (plus the doctor and the sponsor) of their "private team" have been involved during the years in several anti-doping rules violations, experimenting with testosterone and other shady stuff...if the IAAF were consistent, they'd consider Hassan, Klosterhalfen, Brazier and the others guilty until proven innocent like they did with the Russians.

  49. Well, Salazar's group is basically another case of state doping - Nike has more money than some Third World countries. If anyone will save Farah & Rapp's legacy it's Nike and their lawyers. This shit ain't over tbh!

  50. berto-salazar-receives-four-year-ban-for-doping-violations still, until they don't get any of his athletes (even after the end of their career, if it's the case...any referral to Mo Farah and Galen Rupp is purely intentional ), I'm not sure this changes anything... Well, I feel US wants to play "active" and "fair" country so they needed to blame someone. Not saying that Salazar is clean. But what is more convinient than put the blame on someone who works in US with local athletes but is foreign citizen
