  5. Well, Gangwon 2024 is now officially over From Agnese Campeol winning a historic first ever medal (silver) for Thailand in girl’s monobob, to the historic debuts of five countries (Algeria, Puerto Rico, Nigeria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates), to Great Britain winning double gold in curling, to Brazil winning their first ever medal in boy’s snowboard cross (bronze) with Zion Bethonico, to Flora Tabanelli’s double gold in women’s freeski slopestyle/big air, to short track speed skating controversy where Zhang Bohao was suspected of intentionally arm blocking the South Korean gold medal favourite to hand his Chinese teammate the gold medal. These games brought us memories to last a lifetime. Some good, some bad, but one things for sure I’ll always remember Gangwon 2024. Finally, a very special thanks to @Olympian1010@intoronto @hckošice @heywoodu@phelps for all your contributions to this thread during the games See you all at the next one folks, Paris 2024 is less than six months away!

  7. meanwhile, at the top of the men's standings, Luc Van Opzeeland and Nicolò Renna have already destroyed the entire field (the 3rd ranked, Tom Reuveney is 33.5 pts behind the 2nd ranked Renna) they're just a class apart, I'd be really upset if the Olympic Gold and Silver won't be a close fight between those 2 guys in the top 10, there are 4 surfers from and 2 from , then 1 each from and in the women's ranking, Emma Wilson has a comfortable (20 pts) lead Pilar Lamdrid Trueba, who also has a big margin over the 3rd ranked, Katy Spichakov in the top 10, there are 4 girls from , meanwhile and have 1 surfer each one in any case, it's important to remember that the medal stages will eventually reshuffle the entire field, with the only exception of the series winner, who's sure to get at least the Bronze medal (thanks to the craziest format man can find in the sport)

  14. Looking at the entry lists, I see that Australia is the only nation from Oceania entered in the men's 10km event so I believe they've already earned a quota. Same thing is true in the women's event but Australia already qualified through the 2023 edition so that quota will get reallocated.

  15. Seems a bit surprising that haven't entered the team event this time around having been entered in 2022 and 2023. Whilst I didn't expect them to qualify for Paris, it would have been good to see the squad make further progress.

  18. Medals were very evenly distributed, 8 nations each with 15 - 20 medals. Canada and Norway (and Switzerland) were rather disappointing. Medal winners that are most likely to shine at the 2026 winter olympics (in my opinion): Mao Shimada (women's figure skating) Shin Ji-a (women's figure skating) Angel Daleman (women's speed skating/short track) Taja Bodlaj (women's ski jumping) Ingvild Midtskogen (women's ski jumping) Lee Chae-un (men's snowboard) Eli Bouchard (men's snowboard) Yura Murase (women's snowboard) Lucia Georgalli (women's snowboard) Hanna Karrer (women's snowboard) Rise Kudo (women's snowboard) Sara Shimizu (women's snowboard) Alessandro Barbieri (men's snowboard) Flora Tabanelli (women's ski freestyle) Elizabeth Lemley (women's ski freestyle) Porter Huff (men's ski freestyle) Luke Harrold (men's ski freestyle) Charlie Beatty (men's ski freestyle) Yishan Liu (women's ski freestyle) Zihan Chen (women's ski freestyle) Finley Melville Ives (men's ski freestyle) Jingru Yang (women's short track) Jinzi Li (women's short track) Anna Falkowska (women's short track) Minji Kang (women's short track) Xinzhe Zhang (men's short track) German athletes who might have an impact at the 2026 winter olympics: Muriel Mohr (women's ski freestyle) Finn Sonnekalb (men's speed skating)

  19. Latvian parliament officially approved an amendment banning its national sports teams from competing against Russia and Belarus as a sign of solidarity with Ukraine. The amendment to the law on sports prohibits Ice hockey, football, basketball and other national teams from playing against Russia and its ally Belarus, regardless of whether they compete under their own or a neutral flag. Lawmakers also approved another amendment that prohibits organizers of sports events in Latvia from inviting Russian and Belarusian national teams. The measure was approved by the 100-member parliament with 74 votes, 11 deputies voted against. If Latvian teams find themselves in a position to compete against Russia or Belarus at the 2024 Paris Olympics, they will be banned from doing so under the new law. Many Latvian athletes also already considered boycotting the Olympics if the Russians were allowed to participate. The reigning Olympic 3x3 basketball champions, who are from Latvia, have said their team will not participate in the Paris Olympics if Russian athletes take part. translated from SVK Šport.sk website https://sport.aktuality.sk/ostatne-sporty/clanok/tvrdy-zasah-statu-v-postsovietskej-krajine-sportovci-dostali-zakaz-2024020116003584099

  37. to me, Skt.Moritz should have been the Olympic choice from the beginning (it's a track where we always perform very well, after all) the Cortina track should have been a project not related to the Olympic Games, their hype and media exposure (we definitely need a sliding sports track, but we should have built it "under the radar", keeping all the opposing idiots on local basis only as much as we could instead of giving them such a big stage and such a chance to make enormous damage to the sport in this fuckin' Country) I don't really see any advantage now in having a home track where we didn't have the time to train a lot more than any other Nation

  44. Highlighting Two male Italian discus throwers today. First Off-Enrico Saccomano who started his season of with 59.87,the reasons i think he's worth mentioning Is because he's just 22[going to turn 23 on February 12.],He has never thrown the 2kg discus so far in his first contest of a season, and it's his fifth best result ever with his Pb being 60.99,from the 2022 season in the Summer, not predicting he's gonna do anything crazy this year but already seemingly not that far off his pb at the very start of the season looks like a good sign. And the main one is- Alessio Mannuci Who threw his new PB of 64.19 in that same season opener two days ago[he will turn 26 in early July].Previous Pb was 63.61 from mid July of last year,7 off his current 10 best Marks came from 2023.Obviously it's huge to get a pb in the first comp of the year,He's 10th on the all time Italian Men's discus list, but of the ones still competing,Absolutely looks like the number one right now.Takes second place on the discus world list for this year behind Connor Bell at the moment,I know the Germans will be having their winter championships near the end of February,Ceh will Probably compete in His Winter throwing champs which will be on the 17th,But I think Alessio is likely going to stay in the top 10 for at least February and is worth keeping an eye on to see how he progresses through the season.

  48. athletes in good shape, it looks... in Lodz, Zeynab Dosso was second only to local hero Ewa Svoboda by 1/100 in the women's 60m, but she destroyed twice the National Record, clocking 7.09 in the prelims and then 7.05 in the final (the previous record, she was sharing with Manuela Levorato, was 7.14) Lorenzo Simonelli, instead, is the official new world leader* in the m en's 60m Hurdles after he won the race in Poland with 7.50 (new NR, also) *in the NCAA season, a guy named Trey Cunningham already ran 7.47, but his result has not been recorded by WA yet (and maybe it will never be, who knows?) world silver medallist Leonardo Fabbri, finally, made his debut in the indoor season and won the men's Shot Put in 21m26 in Padua, in the meantime, Pietro Arese improved the NR over the men's 1500m, running in 3.37.03, not a truly impressive time, but I think it's still worth to be mentioned last but not least, Larissa Iapichino completed her 1st LJ competition of the winter in Sabadell...she won, but couldn't go further than 6m62
