It sucks that qualifiers were then cancelled, but on what grounds does she think she should be there if she couldn't qualify through a qualifier and didn't compete in events that counted for rankings? mrv86 1 . EselTheDonkey 825 Posted May 18, 2021 #252 Share Posted May 18, 2021 I agree. It's bad luck for her, but what about everyone who has been injured during the restrospectively crucial tournaments? Are they getting Olympic Wildcards as well? That sucks bad, but on what grounds does she expect to go to Tokyo anyway, despite not qualifying? Expand She doesn’t have a case. But her reasoning is that she was fit for the qualifying tournaments in March/April/May 2020 but with cancellation of all qualifying tournaments, qualification went to ranking. And the only tournaments in which she was eligible to participate for rankings were in the time frame when she was taking a break due to pregnancy. As many have pointed out, same argument can be made by a large number of athletes. Though, sad for her missing out even on a chance to qualify, the legal case is wrong. It is just using her pregnancy to get a free WC. heywoodu 1 Link to comment https://totallympics.com/forums/topic/960-boxing-qualification-to-tokyo-2020-summer-olympic-games/page/26/#findComment-374136 Share on other sites

The IOC won’t want to set a precedent of offering wildcards for ‘injured’ or unavailable athletes and they’ll (rightly IMO) point to COVID as an extenuating circumstance for not being able to host a qualifier Link to comment https://totallympics.com/forums/topic/960-boxing-qualification-to-tokyo-2020-summer-olympic-games/page/26/#findComment-374177 Share on other sites

She planned everything so that she could back and compete at the qualifier, and that has been taken away from here. I really do not see how the IOC can just grant her a spot like that, but it is what it is atp.
