First portion of 2022 sport funding for Lithuanian sport announced as Ministry of Education and Culture announced  numbers of sports funding via central government.

Sport funding in Lithuania have multiple layers from both central and regional government bodies, therefore this is just the first portion of funding.

Interestingly enough, it was announced that all official funding for Judo were cut down to 0, due inadequate use of previous funding and arguments within Lithuanian Judo Federation. There were multiple articles surrounding disagreements within Judo community in Lithuania as multiple breakaway Judo federations started to operate in the country. Unfortunately this is only going to hurt the development of this sport even more...

Also no funding for Surfing, Skateboarding and inactive Luge, Skeleton and Bobsleigh federations. No funding for squash and floorball as national federations are not a part of Doping testing system. Wushu removed from funding list, might something to do with countries love for China... Loads of weird non-Olympic sports prioritised over Olympic federations.

Basketball loosing a lot of funding after failing to qualify for Tokyo, although further stages might increase the funding + all team sports will have additional fund distributed for team sport development (I know, funding system in Lithuania is very convoluted..)

Funding per federation - Stage 1 (more funding to be approved via different sources). All sums are in €:

  • Aquatics (Swimming, Artistic and Diving) = 927k
  • Athletics = 779k
  • Rowing = 719k
  • Canoeing = 547k
  • Basketball = 516k

  • Ice Hockey = 222k
  • Orienteering = 209k (Non-Olympic)
  • Kyokushin Karate = 204k (Non-Olympic) ... wtf...
  • Handball = 176k
  • Rugby = 164k
  • Field Hockey = 149k
  • Dance Sport (including Breaking) = 146k (Future Olympic)
  • Sailing = 124k
  • Bodybuilding = 116k (Non-Olympic)
  • Shooting = 100k
  • Weightlifting = 97k

  • Archery = 34k

  • Sambo = 25k (Non-Olympic)
  • Flying Disk = 22k (Non-Olympic)
  • Sport Climbing = 20k
  • Tug of War = 20k (Non-Olympic)
  • Water Bike Sports = 19k (Non-Olympic)

  • Water motorsports = 5k (Non-Olympic)
  • Water Skiing and Wakeboarding = 5k (Non-Olympic)
  • Golf = 5k
  • Billiard = 1k (Non-Olympic)

OMG that is hilarious. Air Sports, Orienteering, Bodybuilding, Draughts , composition chess,  bike water sports.. Haha

What will arm wrestling federation do with that money I wonder!

I didn't know fishing can be a sport and get more funding than tennis, badminton, archery, triathlon, golf, fencing etc

Football seems to be hitting a new low in the country. From this year the funding will be just 632k $ . Imagine 400 times the population of Lithuania and still not a very drastic difference in the football funds. Tennis also seems to be slashed heavily. The federation was quite upset but I'm happy with the reason given - lack of appreciable performance. Imagine a nation where Football is below Sailing and Equestrian and cannot even compare with weightlifting or even have a thought of comparison with badminton, athletics etc

Here's our 2022-23 funding for summer Olympic sports. This is for one year (I think it goes from April 2022 to March 2023)

Archery $250,000
Artistic Swimming $225,500
Athletics $4,535,000
Basketball (F) $1,150,000
Basketball (M) $800,000
Boxing $450,000
Canoe/Kayak $2,315,000
Cycling $3,494,000
Diving $2,725,000
Fencing $230,000
Field Hockey (M) $575,000
Golf $250,000
Gymnastics $1,175,000
Judo $1,300,000
Rowing $4,184,900
Rugby 7s (F) $1,050,000
Rugby 7s (M) $575,000
Sailing $550,000
Soccer (F) $2,589,100
Swimming $4,523,500
Taekwondo $57,000
Tennis $300,000
Triathlon $300,000
Volleyball - Beach $850,000
Volleyball (M) $1,000,000
Waterpolo (F) $925,000
Waterpolo (M) $325,000
Weightlifting $200,000
Wrestling $1,050,000

So no funding for badminton, 3x3 basketball, breaking, equestrian, handball, modern pentathlon, shooting, skateboarding, sport climbing, surfing and table tennis. For traditional team sports, funding is split between genders. There's no funding for men's football and women's field hockey and volleyball.

That's a lot of sports without funding. We even have medal chances in some of them. At the very least we should qualify athletes in the majority of the non-funded sports. Perhaps some will see something next year since Olympic qualification will be in full swing.

I've always been of the opinion that each sport should get some kind of base level funding. Like if they can give taekwondo $57k they can give the others something like 25k-50k a year. It would at least help pay for travel costs to Olympic qualifiers/World Championships.

Keep in mind this funding is on top of the funding the government provides.

The other day I heard a journalist say our entire sports budget is the same as the budget of brazilian swimming.

The Argentine government says that the total public budget for sports is 4 billion pesos (or US$ 25 million by the official exchange rate).

Of course this doesn't include other income by federations and clubs (like tickets, TV rights and sponsors), which I guess are minimal for most sports.

    • It may also be that Ceccerelli saw that the conditions in the Italian youth teams were very poor and that is why she insisted on setting up her own team (the results of young Italian skiers unfortunately confirm this). A private team will always be better than a team with 10-12 skiers with max. 3-4 coaches, a one doctor and a physiotherapist. Colturi is the only skier in her team and she has several coaches, a masseur, a doctor etc. Of course, it costs money, but since the parents are famous and have money + Red Bull got involved. I don't understand why she can't start for Italy again? Red Bull should care more that Colturi starts in Cortina under the Italian flag than the Albanian one + Red Bull, as a brand, always has a bigger sales market in Italy with a population of 60 million than in small Albania. I hope that this can still be reversed by next year. For this we need talks between the federation + Colturi's parents + Red Bull + possibly the Italian Olympic Committee. Colturi may be a skier equal to Brignone or even better. We can't lose her, so we have to do now!
    • I`m very disappointed with this weekend. Only becouse of Ghiotto form I`m happy. Unfortunately, the women's team will not function well if Lollobrigida skips most of the training camps and Fontana starts alternately in short tack and long track. It will end with her not winning any medals here or there, because it`s already clear that it will be very difficult to achieve good results in long track. I hope that she understands this, because in short track she has a real chance of winning medals in the women's relay and the mixed relay but in long track not.
    • Tragic performance of the Italian women's team - last place and probably something bad happened at the start. There are so few starts in the team that it will be a problem to even qualify for the World Championships - 8 best teams. After Lollobrigida's return and Fontana's addition, I was counting on much more, but it seems that there are too few joint trainings. With individual quality, we have no right to lose to the Czechs without Sablikova, or anonymous Korea. And unfortunately this start will count for a lot, because there are only 2 more and our chances of playing at the World Championships are minimal. In my opinion with Fontana going from Short Track to Long Trackand vice versa, we won't be much use in the team. Here great teamwork is needed, not improvisation. As of today, there is very little chance that we will qualify the women's team for the games.
    • men advanced to Division A for the first time since 2018 (when they went 1-8). Don't expect much progress next year
    • Ok, but there we are talking about a person who has parents from different countries. Colturi has nothing to do with Albania.
    • There are few people here from Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Finland.
    • The worst editions in XXI century for us were Vancouver: 5 medals (only 1 gold for Razzoli's on the penultimate day) and Sochi: 8 medals (but no gold). Turin was already a prelude to this bad period, although the number of gold medals was ok. Overall we won fewer medals at home than in 2002 and this was probably the only case in the 21st century when the host country won fewer medals at home than 4 years earlier, either in summer or winter. In general the years 2008-2016 were very bad in our sport, both in summer and winter. Only 2018 in Korea was a slight rebuild + 2 fantastic summer editions in Tokyo and Paris. in Beijing 2022 we won a lot of medals - 17 but only 2 gold (If it weren't for Gogga's injury, I think it would have been 4 gold).
    • Totallympics had  users at one point, but I haven't seen any hanging around in a while.
    • In terms of total medals, yes. In terms of golds, I’d be fine with anywhere from 6-8.   @intoronto you don’t think we’ll do better or at least the same? Bit surprising.
    • Tadeucci was very good and took bronze
