As a baseball noob I was surprised at first that I would see Israel as Europe's spot rather than let's say Netherlands. After checking the roster I understood why

To be fair even the Dutch team is majority North American (thanks to the various Dutch municipalities in the Caribbeans)

 

Israel's competitiveness in baseball is brand new, they didn't really have any meaningful success before they qualified for the 2017 World Baseball Classic.

Ah, the same old story. Netherlands is allowed to use players from their colonies. Italy is allowed to use Italian-Americans. But when Israel does the same, then it's HOW DARE.
