:GER Natalie Geisenberger

LUGE

"Greatest of all time" may be an overused phrase these days, but for some athletes this title is truly deserved. This is the case of Luge extraordinaire Natalie Geisenberger, who has enjoyed unprecedented success since her first senior competitions in 2007. During her career, the German luger won 16 medals at the World Championships (where she is a nine-time champion), 14 medals at the European Championship and 74 World Cup races. Most importantly, at the 2022 Winter Olympics, she became the only female luger to win three individual Olympic gold medals. She also ranks first among Luge athletes (male or female) with the most Olympic medals  being the only woman in any sport to enter at least seven Winter Olympic events and win a medal in all of them. These achievements, combined with her commitment to fair play, made her a true ambassador for the sport.

:NED Annemiek van Vleuten

ROAD CYCLING

Considered one of the greatest Dutch athletes of all time, Annemiek van Vleuten first started cycling at the age of 23 to recover from a football injury. Oficially beginning her career at 25 after joining an amateur team in 2007, van Vleuten has enjoyed tremendous success as a professional cyclist, winning all three of the women's cycling Grand Tours equivalents and four gold medals at the World Championships  becoming, in 2022, the first woman to achieve the Triple Crown of Cycling. At the Olympic Games, van Vleuten was bound to win the title in 2016, but had a horrific crash while leading the race. Her long-waited gold medal moment came with a time trial victory at the Tokyo Olympics, a crowning achievement in an already brilliant career. After her retirement, she said she hoped to have inspired others. Her cycling years, certainly, are a testament to the power of resilience and human strength.
