Swimming at the Aquatics WA World Championships 2024

Recommended Posts

38-year old :CHI Kristel Kobrich qualified to the 1500m freestyle finals.

What a long career for her and she's still going strong. Assuming she stays healthy she's looking to go for a 6th Olympics, tied for the most among swimmers

Yes, our girls did it. With newcomer, 17 year old Hana Sekuti along Klančar, Šegel and Fain our relay is going to Paris.

I hope, because we already had one misfortune, I can't recall for which Olympics, where they misinterpreted qualification and end up missing Olympics just a couple of weeks prior.

EDIT: One more fact, this was first ever 4x100 women relay performance by our team, previously they only competed in 4x200 twice (with Isakovič in 2007 and 2009), and already first final. Amazing. :yes

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but Slovenia needs either one more person to get an OQT or qualify another relay or else they are at risk of losing the  relay quota. This is because they have only qualified one woman and qualifying one relay only gives you 2 relay-only athletes so they won't have enough athletes to form a relay.

Same thing with Serbia on the men's side.

Fink takes the 100m breast title. Peaty looked poor in the last 50 and had nothing left to hit back at Fink and Martenenghi, worrying times heading towards Paris.

I think :GBR era of doing well in swimming will end soon. Because of the funding issues 4-5 medals or more is needed in Paris and I am not sure that is coming. Being in primetime will add the pressure as well (Same for Athletics)  - a shame for swimming that the finals in 2016 and 2021 were in the middle of the night UK time.

    • Also it being illegal in France means the IOC will have to test everyone pre arriving at 2030 and can’t wait till they arrive at the Games to do so. I’m sure at 2028 for some sports testing will happen on site if it’s not a rule of its governing body for non Olympic events. So far only a few sports like Athletics and Boxing have that rule - I suspect others will adopt it but others might take time.
    • https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/articles/cpwj78lxypro ‘In France - one of a number of countries where genetic testing is illegal without a medical prescription due to privacy laws - the government has condemned the decision as "a step backwards". "It defines the female sex without taking into account the biological specificities of intersex individuals, whose sexual characteristics present natural variations, leading to a reductive and potentially stigmatising approach," claimed French Sports Minister Marina Ferrari.”   ‘A group of legal experts in human rights and sports have since expressed, external"urgent concern" about what they called "the regressive move toward genetic testing as a precondition of participation in women's sport" which they say "violate domestic and international laws that protect human rights and regulate the use of genetic testing and genetic information".  The group has called on athletes "to challenge the national or regional implementation of mandatory genetic sex testing, demanded by the IOC or international federations, before domestic courts, by invoking national or regional laws protecting human rights, prohibiting anti-discrimination, and regulating the use of genetic testing and genetic data".’   Domestic laws are more challenging for the IOC to deal with than CAS. Things could get complicated for a bit.
    • Except NOC’s and governing bodies have to still follow local laws. Particularly for Under 18’s there could certainly be domestic legal issues regarding associations paying for travel to other counties to circumvent a domestic ban. Child protection services don’t always act reasonable to attempts to break a domestic law.
