Has 🇮🇷 announced their football squad for the asian games ? Will they be taking 3 over aged players?

I have to correct my earlier answer. apparently I was very wrong :p

some names had been leaked and apparently we will have at least 2 overaged players. (or at least 2 we are aware of) of course nothing is final because most clubs don't want to release their players.

Finalized completion schedule should be released in the next few days, with the torch relay beginning on September 8th. Link: https://www.hangzhou2022.cn/En/presscenter/spotnews/latestnews/202308/t20230828_70592.shtml

The :SRI rugby team added back to the competition, however will march under the OCA flag at the Opening ceremony. Is this a first, where a country marches and a team representing them enters separately?

I believe this is the first time and that's weird.

Indian wrestling federation is suspended too, I wonder if OCA and UWW reach the same agreement in that sport or UWW is just too bad to even think about it :d

Iran NOC announced their final list of sports  (well almost final. some changes are always possible) that's something around 270-280 athletes

Aquatics / Swimming 4, Diving 1, Water polo 13 (all male)

Archery / 6 M, 3 W

Athletics / 6 M, 2 W
Badminton / 1 M

Basketball / Men's team + Men's 3x3 team

Boxing / 5 M

Canoeing / 8 M, 7 W in sprint, 1 W in slalom

Chess / 5 M, 1 W

Cycling / 2 M (Track&Road) and 1 W (MTB)

Equestrian / will be decided later but I assume nobody

Fencing / 4 only in men's sabre

Football / men's team

Gymnastics / full or incomplete team in men's artistic
Handball / men's team

Judo / 2 M, 1 W

Jujitsu / 2 M

Kabaddi / both men and women team

Karate / 4 M, 4 W (it's possible to send the kata team if they give up a kumitee quota per OCA rules)

Kurash / 3M, 4 W (maximum possible number)

Roller sports / 2+2 confirmed in inline freestyle, possible to send 4+4 in speed skating

Rowing / 2 M, 6 W

Shooting / probably 8+8 but the final number will be confirmed later (after the WCh)

Sport climbing / for now 1+1 but possible to add 2 more men to have a speed relay team

Table Tennis / 3 M, 1 W

Taekwondo / probably a full team but they forgot to write the numbers for this one

Tennis / 1 W

Volleyball / men's team + 1 team in beach volley

Weightlifting / 5 M, 2 W for now but it's possible to add 3 more

Wrestling / 12 M (full men's team)

Wushu / 8 M, 7 W

really disappointed with this, they "claim" for men they end only those who can compete for a medal (with few exceptions like swimming) and for women even top 6 finish will be enough. but yet they dropped women's handball (which finished 4th in Asian Champs twice) and it's not just that they are dropping even some of our small medal chances in other sports yet they are going to send 1 athlete in diving, 1 in Badminton, 1 in Tennis, to do what exactly ? just to increase the number of sports meanwhile decreasing the number of athletes?

if I had to decide I would choose a complete different list. if we are going to send a not-so-big delegation, then swimming, diving, badminton, tennis and most importantly men's football shouldn't go. this U23 team sucks and everybody knows it.

our NOC finally published the full list of delegation. more or less the same numbers with some changes (additions). but in total it will be 211 male and 78 female athletes

289 is not our smallest delegation ever but we had something like 380 last time in Indonesia. this is disappointing :( but not surprising considering the financial crisis and all other problems the country had faced in the past 5 years. improvement was out of the question, at best we could keep our past level which apparently didn't happen.

even though the final list is much better than the original list, they added some deserving athletes at the end

It's reported that North Korea will send a big team to China around 191 athletes (according to press already registered and accessed official myinfo system), even bigger than that of last two Games in Indonesia and South Korea. And China will send 886 athletes at home, smaller than 2014 but almost all best athletes in all sports.

I wonder if they will qualify someone to Olympics, most probably in shooting and athletics, if they will show up in Paris..

    • Since I didn't follow the Games that closely, two categories I'm having trouble finding candidates for are Comeback of the Year and the Olympic Spirit Award (the Paris 2024 award for individuals who exemplify the spirit of sportsmanship at the Games or have shown great determination in overcoming obstacles). If you guys have any suggestions, I'd appreciate it.      Comeback of the Year   Adam Peaty (Swimming) Tom Daley (Diving) Kristof Milak (Swimming) Matteo Berrettini (Tennis) Paula Badosa (Tennis)  Sunisa Lee (Artistic Gymnastics)     Olympic Spirt Award   Fariba Hashimi (Road Cycling) Flavia Saraiva (Artistic Gymnastics) Ellie Black (Artistic Gymnastics) Csanad Gemsi (Fencing) Silina Pha Aphay (Athletics) Sander Skotheim (Athletics) Cindy Ngamba (Boxing)
    • Have mercy, I can't last 18 days without sleep.
    • This might be unpopular but it would allow way more sports and quotas and cities to host at a lower cost.
    • I think Julia Tannheimer will continue to perform so well on the flatter courses in Ruhpolding and Antholz, which will suit her technique. Oberhof will be more exciting, the courses are very demanding, but quite comparable to the World Championships in Lenzerheide. That's why I'm really looking forward to Oberhof this season. Anyone who can cope well with the courses in Oberhof should also be able to run at the front at the World Championships.

    • Thanks for your predictions, they are very interesting.   But here it will be a different format. Combined events - pairs of athletes, one male/female will perform in downhill and other will perform in slalom. E.g. Team SUI 1 Odermatt plus Meillard.
    • Interesting (optimistic) predictions for GB. Don‘t See Them winning 5 golds (more than China and as many as Canada). I think 3 golds are more Realistic (Brookes + 2 in curling/skeleton). Especially gold for Bankes seems To be a rather optimistic prediction, given that Casta is 11 years younger and just beat Bankes.
    • Medal Table (Change from 2022)    - 20 (+4)  - 13 (+1)  - 13 (+5)  - 9 (+7)  - 9 (=)  - 7 (+2)  - 7 (=)  - 6 (-2)  - 6 (-1)  - 5 (+1)  - 5 (+4)  - 4 (+1)  - 4 (-5)  - 3 (+2)  - 2 (=)  - 1 (=)  - 1 (+1)      -5,  -2,  -2,  -2, , -1, , -1, , -1 fail to male the list   On 1st glance 1 feel I have underestimated Canada, Sweden and Finland, and overestimated GB (obviously) and Netherlands.    If the Russians aren't competing then the Norwegians will have a field day in cross country skiing, but it is too early to tell.   World cups and championships aren't always the best measure for some sports but it's the best I can find.      As an overall trend I feel this will be a strong games for the European nations (home advantage) but the Asian nations might struggle, not necessarily at the extent I predicted here but I don't think their results will be as good as Beijing.
