Planned to attend the Tokyo games without Covid-19?

Yes, and still plan to attend if they are held (assuming spectators are allowed).

I thought it was in a month or so...I hadn't thought about it for a moment yet

Plus I'm actually happy with it all, since I've started my first actual job in many years last month, it'd be nearly impossible to watch most if even anything of Tokyo 2020 (not gonna ask for two weeks off that soon). Now that it's next year, this should be no problem :cheer:

actually I did that for Beijing 2008 and let's say the final outcome wasn't great for my personal life :d even though I never regret that .

Luckily the one who is that much involved in my personal life wants to see most stuff as well :d

Besides, people who wouldn't accept me turning my life around for two weeks for the Olympics aren't worth my time anyway, it's who I am - take it or leave it :p

Let's hope it will be possible next year then.

Will be curious if we can co-host the UEFA Euro 2020/21 next year here in Budapest

Thankfully the other major events I am interested in to be held in Budapest will be later - Handball ECh in 2022 and Athletics WCh in 2023 - hopefully Covid will be sorted out for then.

Well I said today to someone that in Summer 1914, the emperor of Austria-Hungary said to the people that the war will be over by autumn - we all know how that turned out. Hopefully the Covid-19 pandemic will be different...

This covid postponement has finally gotten to me. We would have been 1 WEEK away from the oc. 4 years of waiting & we would have had only 1 more week.

Looks like there will be few, if any changes to the schedule.  Largely just shifted everything by a year, minus one day

We're going to have 2 Olympics in a span of 7 months, old school style.  As much as I hate the extra year of build-up (and all the uncertainty that will bring), like @heywoodu said, at least we're slowly seeing sports start to return!

Oh yeah basically I was also in the same situation. Last November I decided to sacrifice Tokyo 2020 for my current job and now I am glad I chose the correct option :d

    • Yea I only used transit besides this Uber / bus to the airport and back. All the venues were at the end of the line, so it allowed you to speak with other fans/volunteers etc. I even met Corrine Stoddard's mom after the first session of short track on the way back, and told her to remember our conversation if she won a medal later in the Olympics. We know how that ended up...
    • I used public transit the entire time I was in Milan.   My first day was a doozy, because I had to two flights to reach Malpensa, and then the train into town was delayed, and then I got confused a station and boarded a tram instead of the metro, proceeded to travel in the wrong direction, got off, walked back to the station, found the metro, got off a station early, walked around a kilometer to my hotel, and checked in.   My colleagues mostly took cabs upon arrival, but I deduced to take the frugal approach. That said, I was a true public transit professional by the time I left Milan.   I actually enjoyed my rides to and from venues, because I'd just chat up fans and volunteers from different countries. It helped me learn more about the city too.
    • It's the olympics, sleep is for the weak!    The first day i got there i was on a 12 hour flight from l.a to rome (flight that left mid day), lay over, another flight to milan, uber to hotel, then right away to speed skating (1500m men), then after uber to hockey venue for women's gold final, then after the celebrations uber to the hotel, i ended up being awake about 36 hours that day, the next morning i thought to go sightseeing in the center of milan, but ended up sleeping until like 2pm..... and had speed skating/short track that night
    • I tried to get onto the metro multiple times and gave up    I had just arrived the day of from Bangkok (12 hr flight) and was just exhausted and wanted to sleep
    • Plus, you missed out on a potential metro ride with me, which is quite priceless in my opinion
    • My hotel was very close to Rho so was easy to get there, but it was so far from the hockey venue that after the women's gold medal match it was so expensive to get back, and also the next day after the usa slovakia semis it took forever, the asshole driver took the city and not the freeway
    • Uber cost me $224 CAD to get back to the hotel from the OC. It basically prevented me from buying tickets to a speed skating session
    • Romania's national team coach, Mircea Lucescu, has died half an hour ago He was in hospital since March 30th, just before the friendly match against Slovakia. Unbelievable how the life can have such turns...in March 26th he was in Istanbul playing the WC qualifying play-off vs Turkiye and now he died.    Thank you very much for every moments you bring us in your huge career (he's on 3rd place in a most trophies won in career, after Ferguson and Guardiola) and may your soul rest in peace, Mr. Lucescu.
