Speed Skating ISU World Cup 2021 - 2022

Recommended Posts

The final Dutch pair of M 1500 totally botched the final lane change. Both slowed down. :hairpull:

Nuis placed 6th, Krol 16th (!!). What a terrible season starter for the Oranje.

Ah, yes, the NBC. Erin Jackson of course has to be dumped in the first black woman category and be defined by it.

What the hell happened with the Men's Mass Start? It seemed to be a pretty big mess as nobody exactly knew how many laps who still has to go ..... Seems first 3 have been awarded but about the rest, we got no clue as the results haven't come up yet

This is the farce that is the mass start: half the time nobody, including the riders, has a clue what the fuck is happening. Not even the clear winner knew he'd won until a while after the finish.

The riders don't know what's going on.

The referees have no clue what to do and don't even follow their own rules (it was specifically stated that any rider who is lapped, will be out of the race from that moment on...Japanese dude lapped half the field and nobody was pulled out).

Commentators barely follow what's happening.

But it's hip and urban version of the marathon, for sprinters, so it's Olympic. Because short.

The mass start could be a lot less bad if they just removed the stupid point system.

Or even just mirror it to one of the roller speed skating events if that’s the what their trying to replicate. The elimination and points formats World Skate uses are such much better than the awful format used by the ISU.

Well, I kinda did not get why the last four got DSQ. They all have finishing time but for some reason got DSQ which means recieving 0 points in the WC ranking compared to the athletes recieving many points but not making it to the final. Which is quite unfair I think.

Actually makes a lot of sense. There isn't a mass start (the event :COL is most likely to qualify in) and their best path to qualifying for another individual event is through the time ranking. So it's probably better to get to North America a week early and acclimate.

    • It's all hogwash especially in the short attention span generation. Like nobody cares about Free Tibet anymore either. Free Palestine will last a lot longer due to Saudi Arabia becoming a sponsorship force in sports.   Israel is too weak in soccer to qualify from UEFA zone. The only time they qualified was from the Asian zone and they only beat Australia & New Zealand who were complete nobodies in the 1960s. No such luck in the 60 years since.
    • Oh I assure you FIFA dodger a bullet with Israel not qualifying…   But ya that’s kind of the thing, shut up and dribble is a mantra anti LGBT people have used often. I don’t think it’s hypocritical to remind them of their position
    • Ah, yes but that's not how pro athletes are taught in North America these days? Shut up & dribble is xenophobic, racist or whatever? The hypocrisy of some of these policies were exposed during 2022 World Cup already where the Saudis played it smart and waved their own "Free Palestine' slogans. Forget LGBT rights for a moment, how many 'Free Palestine' flags will be waved in 2026? Or will those be confiscated by default? Somehow I feel this won't be met with similar backlash when China clamped down on 'Free Tibet' in 2008 OG. Saudi Arabia is more important to global markets than Iran & Egypt
    • Wisła Płock just assumed 1st position after five consecutive draws. Must be first time ever a team on a five match winless streak actually moves up to league top.
    • Well ya, which is why the Egyptian and Iranian teams can shut up and dribble :P
    • The problem is, the World Cup is not a local event. Overall it's another storm in a teacup. LGBT rights in Muslim countries won't change a damn inch becuse of one soccer match in Seattle
    • After looking at the entry list of athletes in the official website, I've changed some of my predictions in the Olympic events with these changes:   Total Tally: Thailand 87, Singapore 51, Vietnam 48, Indonesia 33, Philippines 24, Malaysia 22, Cambodia 1     Badminton (5): Malaysia 2, Thailand 1, Singapore 1, Indonesia 1   Men’s Singles: Switched from Thailand to Singapore     Boxing (11): Thailand 8, Philippines 2, Vietnam 1   Men: -54 kg (-55 kg): Thailand, -60 kg: Thailand, -63.5 kg (-65 kg): Thailand, -69 kg (-70 kg): Thailand, -80 kg: Philippines   Women: -50 kg (-51 kg): Thailand, -54 kg: Thailand, -57 kg: Thailand, -60 kg: Vietnam, -66 kg (-65 kg): Thailand, -70 kg: Philippines     Sailing (7): Thailand 4, Singapore 2, Malaysia 1   ICLA 6: Switched from Thailand to Malaysia     Taekwondo (8): Thailand 6, Vietnam 2   -67 kg: Switched from  Vietnam to Thailand     Weightlifting (5): Thailand 2, Philippines 1, Indonesia 1, Malaysia 1   Men: -65 kg: Malaysia, -94 kg (-95 kg): Thailand   Women: -53 kg: Thailand, -69 kg: Philippines, -77 kg: Indonesia   * I saw that they have actually change the weight categories to almost match that of IWF newly introduced categories from several months ago.      Wrestling (12): Vietnam 7, Philippines 3, Indonesia 2   Men's Freestyle: -57 kg: Philippines, -65 kg: Vietnam, -74 kg: Vietnam, -86 kg: Philippines Men's Greco-Roman: -67 kg: Indonesia, -77 kg: Vietnam, -87 kg: Indonesia, -97 kg: Vietnam Women's Freestyle: -50 kg: Vietnam, -53 kg: Vietnam, -57 kg: Vietnam, -62 kg: Philippines
