A member of USA women's gymnast team has tested positive for COVID19 during their prep camp in Inzai, city officials say.

A further gymnast is isolating after coming into close contact.

And so with this and last few news the real shitstorm starts. It won't be a legit Olympic Games if COVID takes out favorites.

And most current cases are ones that have been caught outside of Tokyo. The gymnast is over 70km away in another city while the others have likely caught it before departing or on the journey.

Jaoan should have pushed it back to 2022 and then got the IOC to move all future games by two years,

Sadly as the figures in the UK and Israel are showing it doesn’t seem that low - there is simply not enough unvaccinated people to be the only ones spreading it with our current cases numbers.

Numbers here are misleading, more people are “infected “ but no one is in a bad state or died out of it, therefore the new variant is either not effecting those who vaccinated or not effective at all

Sadly that doesn’t seem to be the case in the UK. There are reports of fully vaccinated people getting ill enough to need mild hospital treatment,

I think there's no way that we wouldn't already know if it's Biles. It would be a leading news everywhere.

There are also reports that the virus can be transmitted via internet, if you are in UK (where all fully vaccinated people are dying like flies) you should turn your wifi/data/whatever off during the Olympics. A small sacrifice to save us all.

    • Germany also fell hard in this discipline, the same thing happened to Russia - in 2022 they were much weaker than before. Romania – similar levels for years. France – strong growth until 2024, and now a decline again. Georgia – growth, but a large number of naturalized people from the Balkans play there. Generally, I see Georgia has been naturalizing a lot in various sports lately: water polo, figure skating, etc. Could that local regime there be spending much more money to further promote the country through sports?
