@Ogreman You might want to revisit er predictions again. We are at the QF stage now with medals & quotas just 1/2 fights away. Plenty of upsets , shocks & surprising results while some fights went as per expectations some were debatable decisions. 
What do you make of it so far?

I agree , Deepak’s selection is on merit & nothing controversial about it. We have a system in place now, where you just don’t make the team based on ONE trials but a point scoring system across a period. The points are awarded based on a range of factors by the coaching team. 
 

Finally, I feel we may add one more quota & medal in women’s section in either 54/57. The draws are unseeded & lopsided but we it eventually evens out, we get some good draws like 63.5 (M) 75 (W) & some stinkers 71 (M) 51 (M) etc 

 

So overall 4 quota places & 7-8 medals should be a good return .

At the end of the African Olympic Boxing qualifying tournament all 18 quota places have been awarded 

 

The following countries have won quotas in this African qualifiers:

Summary:

Last African boxing qualifier for Tokyo Olympics had 33 quota places available , as quotas were reduced to nearly half it impacted on both  & especially  final quotas. Algeria still did relatively well with 5 OQP as compared to 7 last term . Morocco meanwhile lost half their quota places registering only 3 OQP as compared to 6 last term.  meanwhile drew a total blank this term , they qualified 3 boxers to Tokyo from this qualifiers. 
 

On the other side ,  failed to win even a single OQP last term this time they qualified 3 boxers . Similarly  qualified just 1 boxer last term whereas they qualified 3 boxers to Paris .

Jugurtha Ait Bekka   qualifies for Olympics by winning in split decision (4-1) against Colin 

 

Men’s 80 KG

 

Abdelrahman Oraby  qualifies for Olympics by winning convincingly 5-0 against Yusuf 

 

Men’s +92 KG 

 

Mourad Kadi  qualifies for Olympics by winning in split decision (4-1) against Balde

Got caught in the ropes and the Zambian landed a heavy punch on his right jaw, went down instantly. I was surprised to see a KO in Flyweight , you normally don’t get those. Although Patrick is heavily stocked for his weight class, must have a good punch in him.

Yes it was quite serious , lost his bearings after a KO blow by Patrick. Referee did well to call the medics urgently.

Khouloud Hlimi  & Marcelat Sakobi Matshu  got the quota places. 
 

Did anyone watched the bout between Hlimi  v Diallo  ? 
Diallo won the first round in 3 judges card , however the referee stopped the fight in RD2 by giving 3 standing 8 counts to Diallo. 

2 of those counts were rubbish. It was typical AIBA refereeing. Boxing will not change no matter who conducts.
The poor girl Diallo was crying and crowd were booing. Totally unfair that one.

 qualified 7 boxers from African qualifiers for Tokyo Olympics while  qualified 6 boxers. 
 

You can expect these two nations to get the most number of quotas , however this time limited quotas are allocated for continental qualifiers with more quotas reserved for world qualifiers at the end of the qualification cycle.
