FISU with better shooting graphics than OBS or EBU Accurate and available graphics really do make a huge difference in viewing though. The shooting finals have been great so far.

I’ve mostly avoided spoilers (except yours ), but I’d prefer to leave my cone of silence so I can discuss the Games.

Anybody know where I can find a replay of yesterday’s judo/wushu finals? FISU.TV is being a little slow with the replay uploads (and Olympic Channel didn’t broadcast those sports).

Ni bags a wushu medal (silver). I wasn’t sure the United States would get a medal. We have some athletes with a good level, but obviously the sport is very unknown in the US.

Double 4th for Yun with yet another gold in wushu. with a nice silver, but he was a little over scored in my opinion (which shouldn’t matter that much as I know almost nothing about wushu).

Wushu is basically unwatchable because of the slowdown/speed-up thing FISU.TV is doing. What a shame. I want to watch stuff, but I might as well just follow the results if this is the quality and of the coverage. Hopefully the replays are better (if they get published).

Beach soccer, in my opinion, is a great fit for multi-sport games. It’s fast-paced, can share a venue with other beach sports, and requires less quotas and competition days. I’d like to see it replace the standard football tournament in the near future. I’ve come to enjoy international softball as well. The WBSC need to continue to develop the men’s games and propose it for inclusion along with the traditional women’s event. Compound archery is tricky because of the quota situation. They could go 48 (recurve)/48 (compound) but the number of nations competing will almost certainly drop substantially. They could eliminate the gendered team events, but I’d imagine there’d be a good amount of opposition to that. Personally, I still think the competition format for compound archery needs some work. I’d prefer to see them use 3D targets with odd shapes and small scoring areas at different distances.

This is what I see as one of the biggest challenges for the sustainability of multi-sport games, especially the Commonwealth Games. Federations/organizers need to be more willing to compromise on capacity at venues. The cost of “modernizations” should also be kept within reason.
