  1. Strangely on the HBO app it definitely works better than on the Eurosport app (where the -/+ 15 seconds button would disappear every time after clicking it, so if you want to skip a minute at a time, it goes slow). But on the computer, the Eurosport website's player worked perfectly, just needed to hold the forward key and you'd easily skip through minutes of introductions or otherwise 'empty' time. A truly massive advantage of HBO though: continueing where you left off! Eurosport had that until 2-3 years ago or something, and then they just...took it away. Which was so insanely annoying, especially when watching for example a multiple hours long stream or video. On HBO you can watch on your phone or tablet, later switch to your TV and simply continue right where you left off, watch for a bit, and continue on your phone or whatever, perfect
  2. That's awful as well, but at least if you have to leave on day 2, you still managed to enjoy the opening ceremony (which surely you can't if you're there knowing your Olympics are already done) Anyway, there's also NOC's that want everyone out as quickly as possible, so...meh.
  3. Huh, who knew. Sounds cool though, but yeah, I'm not sure what it would add when you can already go for any stream you want So far I'm not unhappy with HBO btw. The only way the player went back in quality compared to Eurosport's is the fast-forward option, which goes much slower on HBO than on Eurosport, but alright.
  4. Awful. Just imagine your Olympics are already over before the Olympics are even opened
  5. Yes, he switched from many years of regular basketball to 3x3 in 2022, specifically with Paris as the aim.
  6. Like others said, it's because of the athletics, but that seems like...unfortunate planning, to say the least. I definitely hope it's better next time, because it's fine to have group games and such before the opening ceremony, but every single athlete participating in the Olympics should at the very least still have a theoretical chance for gold at the moment the Games are declared open...
  7. Not sure if Nageeye is even in Europe already though, his race is still far away... I do think De Jong is very much a worthy choice
  8. Just realized, but with the rugby sevens schedule the way it is, there's going to be quite a few athletes who don't even have a theoretical chance for gold anymore even before the opening ceremony starts. Isn't that...odd? Imagine you're selected as flagbearer, but while walking proudly with your flag, you're already entirely out of any theoretical chance to win...
  9. Haven't seen much of it, but from what I've seen I think the BMX track looks rather...industrial, like it's just pushed into some random building with some default roof (why a roof!? ). I hope it will look better in action, but that wasn't promising. The rest, however, seems to be shaping up really nicely!
  10. Depends on the kind of hilly stage. If it's several hills that are slightly high but not very steep, no. If it's lots of short but punchy hills, kind of, yes. Pure sprinters aren't going to have a chance here, the only real sprinter that's probably going to be there in terms of the top riders is Girmay, but he is quite able to deal with punchy climbs as well (I think there will be too many of them here, so he's probably not going to be in the top, but he would certainly have better chances than the likes of Cavendish, Groenewegen, Philipsen and so on). On the other hand, pure climbers probably also won't really be among the favourites, the climbs are too explosive for them. Difference is also that it's a 275km race, whereas in the TdF you'd rarely see a stage like this go (far) over 200km, usually it stays well under that. There's also always a big difference between a one-day race and a similar stage as part of a long stage race.
  11. In road cycling, at least in races like this one at the Olympics, there usually isn't really a single top contender. Especially with the ridiculously small peloton we have this year, thanks to the IOC, where it will be almost impossible to have any sense of control over the race for any team. Like, looking at the provisional entry lists so far, there's genuinely at least 40 riders who would not be a super surprising winner of any medal, but I think easily half the peloton has at least some sort of a chance. Obviously some more realistic than others, but you'd be able to pick 40-50 potential winners, all of whom would not be 'what the hell!' kind of surprises.
  12. That would be entirely unsurprising in every possible context
  13. Yep. Good to see at least one of the two parties managed to convince their unfortunately yet clearly mentally unwell candidates to withdraw.
  14. But does that mean she will actually be the candidate?
  15. Biden has just announced his withdrawal from the elections in November. Now the question is who will replace him as Democratic candidate.
  16. So it's not like until today he was expecting to compete individually, and now suddenly he won't?
  17. This sounds like it could push someone out who until now was quite sure of going?
  18. No doubt that's what the Houthi's wanted though, they have almost literally been asking for it the past months... But yeah, not good for anyone (civilian, at least) to have the whole thing escalate more and more and more.
  19. Fastest climb on every HC mountain by at least 3 full minutes, first rider to win more than 8 stages in a single Tour de France, first rider to win every single Grand Tour (including the mountain and points jerseys in all fo them) + every single monument in the same year.
  20. @hckošice Any idea about Dutch roots for Kiara Sluijpers? Her surname sounds rather Dutch Edit: could have Googled first She's apparently indeed originally Dutch, but I assume recently switched to Slovakia. Articles in local Dutch media from as recent as last year are talking about her competing in Dutch junior championships and such.
  21. Watching yesterday afternoon/evening's session now, but how on earth was only Konso sent away from the 110m hurdles semis, when both he and Wright false started (and Wright was even a bit earlier)?
  22. Big blow for the Dutch 4x100m women's squad and mostly of course the athlete herself: Jamile Samuel has torn her hamstring and is out (after already missing Tokyo due to a similar injury)
  23. I've got a feeling for the US it would be something like "Win the Olympics!"
