no, here the lockdown isn't even close to the Chinese method...and in any case, here a total lockdown like Wuhan's wouldn't work...

different Countries, different culture, different attitude even toward an emergency like this one and above all, Italian people are a lot more indisciplined than people from the Far East...

by the way, we should start separating the bad situation in Italy from the dramatic, awful situation in Lombardy...

of today's 4800+ new positive tests, 3251 are here in Lombardy...

and also 546 new deaths out of 793 are here in Lombardy (the most of them in Bergamo province, today's worst in the Country)...

frankly, if this virus doesn't kill me in the next few weeks, my "regular" gastric problems will do it...thanks to this stressful situation, they have started to get worse and worse...it looks I'm going back to the very difficult days of the early 2000' when I was really in trouble because of them...

my point is when you are trapped at home for a month with nothing to do, nothing to watch, when you hear at least 100 people dying everyday in your country, some of them in your own town (and I know it's even worse in some other places), you start not caring about the origin, you just want your life back to normal

So you are in this phase to ask questions like that. I remember people asking questions like this here 3 weeks ago but I can't see that anymore. right now it doesn't matter what's the origin of this virus.

but we are in a new phase "fuck it, enough self-quarantine for me, let's go have fun"

as you said middle east conflicts are usually endless.  but this one between Russia and Turkey is complicated, it's mostly between Assad troops and Turkey. Russia is not directly involved. I think Putin and Erdogan met few weeks ago and solved their problems. Putin got what he wanted from Syria, he doesn't care if Turkey invades some lands inside Syrian borders. that's only Assad's problem.

They arrested those guys actually for disrespecting holy places lol but I think that was Mashhad in Northeast, not Qom. that was disgusting though. now we know the virus is spread hugely because of those stupid religious gatherings. and the government acted very late to shut down all those places. they are closed now but a bit late.

maybe because the majority of news about in Iran are not in English the health ministry has a press conference everyday at 14:00 and announces the numbers. and there are tons of information about the situation in every single province, of course some people always question anything comes from Iranian government because of their bad reputation.

What if China announced from the vary beginning that they really have problems that they found positive cases for Corona,  what if authorities all over the world didn't treat with Corona at the beginning as it's just some sort of Flu and this stupid thing of only 2% dies from this disease and thay're mainly elder people or those with Cancer or Aids,  seriously humanity is paying the price of these dumb ass regimes

yes being a top Chinese table tennis player is just the start and you have to go through hell to be selected    (even though that automatically means an Olympic medal at least)

but I was talking about sports that award quotas based on world ranking. in TT it's up to NOCs to pick their own team.

of course it doesn't matter for Iran, actually I'm glad Ganjzadeh made it. he has more chance for the gold medal than Poursheib. I really really feel sorry for Poursheib , I know he sacrificed a lot to be in Tokyo, but I always preferred Ganjzadeh.

yes having another K1 event most probably wouldn't change much for Poursheib and that's not the point, he didn't even mention that in his long post. he is more upset about the rules favoring Ganjzadeh over him despite having less points.

he is hugely disappointed because they didn't know having more points won't be enough for him. they only found out about it when he surpassed Ganjzadeh in the ranking but WKF ranking was still showing Ganjzadeh in green. WKF should mentioned it very clearly in its official qualification rule but they didn't predict such a rare situation.

and I don't think there are "many many more" athletes who are 2nd in Olympic Ranking and still doesn't qualify for the olympics. (I'm talking about sports with qualification based on the ranking) this is very very rare where top 2 are from the same country. I know it happened at men's 58kg taekwondo but can't remember another example in any other sports. Poursheib is very upset because he is not even behind another Iranian in the WR. my point is I think Poursheib deserved it more because he had more points even though I still think Ganjzadeh is a better option.

Germany’s coronavirus anomaly: high infection rates but few deaths

Widespread testing may explain low fatality figures in country that is bucking trend in Europe

The coronavirus crisis has hit Germany with full force. Infections are increasing rapidly, schools, factories and bars have closed across the country, and government measures to slow the outbreak are becoming more draconian by the day.

In one crucial way, however, the country is proving remarkably resilient: relative to known infections, the number of deaths has so far been minuscule.

According to data from Johns Hopkins University, there were 13,979 coronavirus infections in Germany on Thursday afternoon, more than in any other country except China, Italy, Iran and Spain.

At the same time, Germany had only registered 42 deaths. Neighbouring France, by contrast, reported 9,058 infections and 243 deaths. Spain had 17,395 infections and 803 deaths. The US, the UK, Italy and even South Korea all show case fatality rates significantly higher than Germany.

The apparent anomaly has sparked debate in Germany and beyond, though experts warn against drawing sweeping conclusions. They argue that the country’s low fatality rate most likely reflects the fact that the outbreak is still at a relatively early stage, and that the age profile of those affected has so far been younger than that in other countries. Younger patients without previous ailments have a much better chance of surviving Covid-19 than elderly patients.

The capacity in Germany is very, very significant. We can conduct more than 160,000 tests per week, and that can be increased
    Lothar Wieler, Koch institute

Another factor that may help explain the variance is the unusually high number of tests being carried out in Germany. According to Lothar Wieler, the president of the Robert Koch Institute, German laboratories are now conducting about 160,000 coronavirus tests every week — more than some European countries have carried out in total since the crisis started. Even South Korea, which is conducting 15,000 tests a day and has been held up by virologists as an example to follow, appears to be testing less than Germany.

“This is about capacity. The capacity in Germany is very, very significant. We can conduct more than 160,000 tests per week, and that can be increased further,” Prof Wieler told journalists this week. Test capabilities would be boosted not least in part by switching laboratories that specialise in animal health towards coronavirus checks. There was no sign that test kits were running low, Prof Wieler added.

In the short term at least, mass testing feeds through into a lower fatality rate because it allows authorities to detect cases of Covid-19 even in patients who suffer few or no symptoms, and who have a much better chance of survival. It also means that Germany is likely to have a lower number of undetected cases than countries where testing is less prevalent. Indeed, one notable feature of the coronavirus outbreak in Germany so far is the high number of relatively young patients: according to data from the Robert Koch Institute, more than 80 per cent of all people infected with the coronavirus are younger than 60.

“Especially at the beginning of the outbreak in Germany we saw many cases connected to people returning from skiing trips and similar holidays,” said Matthias Stoll, a professor of medicine at the University of Hanover. “These are predominantly people who are younger than 80 and who are fit enough to ski or engage in similar activities. Their risk of dying is comparatively low.”

Hans-Georg Kräusslich, a professor of medicine and the head of virology at the University Hospital in Heidelberg, said: “In most cases the illness is mild and shows few symptoms, and we assume that the detection of such mild cases varies from country to country. In statistical terms that leads to a difference in case fatality rates.”

However, Prof Kräusslich cautioned that the picture in Germany was likely to change in the weeks and months ahead: “We are still at a relatively early stage in the outbreak in Germany. The overwhelming share of patients became infected only in the last week or two, and we will probably see more severe cases in the future as well as a change in the fatality rate.”

That note of caution is echoed by virologists and epidemiologists across the country. Most expect the different national case fatality rates to converge as time passes and more countries uncover the true number of infections. But experts also point out that Germany has at least had the chance to prepare for a surge in serious infections, with hospitals across the country expanding intensive care capacity and boosting staff numbers and the government buying up as much critical equipment as it can.

Last week, the federal government ordered an extra 10,000 life-saving ventilators from a German manufacturer, on top of the 25,000 that are already in place in hospitals across the country. The city state of Berlin, which has so far recorded 391 cases of Covid-19, is converting parts of the local trade fair ground into a 1,000-bed hospital for future coronavirus patients. Similar steps have been taken across the country.

“We are at the beginning, so we can still implement all the measures that have been called for,” said Prof Wieler. “We can still ensure that severely ill people can get treatment in the hospital.”

I think porn websites are blocked in most (and maybe even all) Muslim countries, in this matter they are all the same, strict or not.

but of course as you know blocking a website doesn't stop people from reaching it. here almost everybody knows how to find a way to unblock websites.

ps: internet is almost free these days here, (at least until last night, I don't know how does it work in the new year) to encourage younger generation to stay at home, the internet speed is not great because of that, ICT minister asked people to use internet during the day and not only in peak time. but then some people started making jokes about it saying something like "you can't tell us when to watch porn during the day "

until few days ago I was against any change in the schedule but now I think this is impossible to have the games this summer . this is just starting in some other countries and coronavirus problem won't be solved before July. it's not only about Japan but 200 other countries and more than 20000 people traveling to Japan for the Games.

and I think IOC has to postpone it as soon as possible. because some athletes are risking their health training in these situation. in some countries there is no place to train properly these days. yes for some football or tennis players Olympic doesn't matter much, they can boycott it but for most amateur athletes Olympic is everything and they will participate no matter what

yeah, today's numbers are really scary (at least, yesterday we had more than double recovered people than deaths...today there are more deaths than recovered people)...

and as always, around half the infected and the deceased people are in Lombardy...

yesterday a military convoy was organized to move bodies from the Bergamo province to other places to be cremated, as there's no place anymore in the infrastructures of that province...

according to highway Police yesterday at the start of "holidays" there were more than a million cars (to be accurate 1,112,000) on the roads between cities. 50% decrease comparing to the same time last year but still that's huge which means something like 3 or 4 millions had traveled in one day.

while we knew it already, the most interesting part is the Japanese names. all high ranked Japanese athletes in each category are qualified . not sure if it was mandatory by WKF or that was Japan's selection criteria.
