  1. i had seen in a news item http://www.firstpost.com/sports/domination-continues-dutee-chand-bags-gold-in-indian-grand-prix-100m-dash-2769378.html
  2. is there a link for online results
  3. Let us look at the qualification process in swimming as I understand it 1.Any swimmer, up to two per event per country, who hit the FINA “A” standard can go to the Olympics, in the first priority. India has no swimmer with an A standard ...... will any hit the standard by july 5th ..... seems unlikely at this point of time but anything is possible 2. The next priority will be athletes in relays, where the first 12 from the 2015 World Championships will go, and the remaining 4 spots in each event will go to the next-best 4 teams in the qualification period in approved qualifying events. No chance here as we are not eligible 3. Up next will be the Universality places, where countries who have no swimmers with an “A” time or a selected “B” time may enter up to 1 man and 1 woman for Rio, presuming that man and woman competed at the 2015 World Championships. Each can swim in just 1 individual event. If a country has a male swimmer invited, they can invite 1 female swimmer under the Universality rules, and vice-versa. i presume India will select 1 man and one women for Rio .... India had sent 8 swimmers to the world championships ........aaron , sandeep , virdhawal , saurabh and sajan in the pool events and mandar in the 10 km swim , two women nikita ( 10 km ) and shivani ....... I am sure that India will select the best man and women from this group .... The swimmers who did best sajan prakash , virdhawal and sandeep ...so I think India will select one of them ........ and from the women shivani most probably ..............4. Up to the cap of 900 swimmers (the same as London), FINA will begin inviting swimmers with “B” times. By July 5th, 2016, FINA will inform “B” standard swimmers of their invites (up to 1 “B” swimmer per country). The change, and this is significant, is that FINA may continue to invite swimmers with “B” standards above the 900 quota to ensure that every country represented at the 2015 World Championships will have an (eligible) swimmer at the Olympics. I think we will get an opportunity to qualify one more swimmer , but that will depend on the timing in B .....in this supriyo mandal may be amongst the highest ranked close to 110 in 200m butterfly ...........but that depends on FINA I feel hence in swimming we may have 2 men and 1 women from the above group
  4. ................. congrats to all members of Indian National thread...... we have overtaken serbia to become the number 1 national thread in Totally olympics
  5. Indian Juniors are doing extremely well as per the IAAF records . The following are the Indians in the top 10 world leading juniors ( Under 20 ) for 2016 High Jump - Tejaswin - 9th - 2.17 Triple Jump - Sonu Kumar - 9th - 15.83 800m - Beant Singh -10th - 1:48:51 Javelin - Neeraj Chopra - 1st - 82.23 4*400 - Tamil Nadu Junior - 9th - 3:14:19 amongst the women lili thomas is 11th in the womens 1500
  6. loosing geeta is not the end of the world ...but babita I feel was someone who could have qualified so a great pity ..................... let us hope for Vinesh and Jyoti ................. In the heavy freestyle some hope for satyawrat ..............
  7. the wikipedia list is showing countries qualifed...is this official ...... we seem to have missed out narrowly Singapore above us and then russia who has qualified
  8. As per my reading no chance of a second quota regardless of performance in the grand prix .......................... as per the rules only one continental quota regardless of gender .... absolutely no chance of any Indian reaching the top 22 ranks so we will get only one quota .............. The question may be who will get a quota Avtar or Kalpana are the most possible
  9. any hopes for satyawart Kadian in freestyle ???
  10. as per the International Judo database ( as of current date with 2 events yet to go till the qualification closes ) Avtar singh qualifies for the continental quota .........in the 90 Kg category
  11. for the continental qualifier how do we know indias chances to qualify one athelete is there some ranking of the different countries in each continent
  12. The list of events for the Indian grand prix starting May 7th .. there are quite a few events not here - the 200m events / 800 m mens , the long distance events ......... they are picking and choosing some events ....................... List of events: Men: 100m, 400m, 1500m, 5000m, 400m Hurdles, triple jump, long jump, shot put, discus throw, javelin throw. Women: 100m, 400m, 1500m, 5000m, long jump, triple jump, discus throw, javelin throw.
  13. I am so impressed with the Indian standards in athletics recently ................ . going by the Asian games standards of 2014 ( if we take the scores over the last few months especially the recent federation cup ) we seem to be at the medal contention level in all the male events except decathlon / pole vault / high jump / 110 m hurdles we seem to be at the medal contention level in all female events except 100mh and pole vault so if you look at it in 41 of the 47 athletic events we seem to be at a medal contention level ................. and going by the timings in 19 of the women events and 13 of the men events we would have won medals which is really huge ( in the remaining 9 events out of the 41 we would have been at 4/5/6 positions ) .................. If I see the situation even 3 years ago we would have been in medal contention in about 20 of the events ending up with 13 medals at the Asian games ... with the current standards we could hope to almost surely double the medals another highlight is the abundant junior talent ........ beant singh ( he is world number one at under 18 ) and neeraj chopra ( he is world number 1 at under 20 ) and lili das are at world class levels currently .... Duttee is just out of juniors
  14. Indian hopes would lie with Beant singh had already made the timing in the fed senior cup and he is the asian champion she is world no 10 in this years 800 m juniors ...also neeraj chopra is the most likely to podium qualification standard 68 m - his length 82+ consistently and he is world no amongst juniors ... he is most probably going to be Indias first gold medal in any world championship at any level in athletics ... third most likely to medal would be lili das she is at 9th position for this years 1500 ... I am hoping for 3 finalists for the first time ever Duttee is not eligible and is no longer considered a junior ( she is born 1996 and the event is open for athletes born in 1997 ) ......she is truly an awesome talent as she can shave at least .2 to .3 as she moves into the senior ........... short distance runners reach their prime at 24-28 years ..............
  15. definitely a finalist in vault ................. difficult to be a medalist in vault ....but surely going to be up there .................so a matter for all of us to be very proud
  16. As I have been following weightlifting ......only Mirabai is world class she has improved recently under Kunjaranis coaching ....I feel without a doubt 2-5 Kg improvement is possible ....... she shoudl be counted as a reasonable medal prospect in rio ....I do not see any one else even close barring sanjita chanu but chanu is far from the medal prospects .... The only other possible top 10 weightlifter is Punam ....... but Mirabai stands alone .......... She is lifting 190 ......... There are two chiness who are lifting 205 or so but china will nominate only 1 ....... so the chinese lifter barring a miracle or injury will be first ............ then Miyake whose season best was 193 ( but has a PB of 200 ) she would be the second seed ( but she is not in great form and can be overtaken provided ......then there is vuang ( VIE ) who is alternating between 194 and 188 .. Then there is Ri ( PRK ) with a season best of 191 who again can be overtaken ....then there is Khamsri of THA... so with a couple of Kgs increase she can be in the medals..... so barring the first position which seems reserved for the chinese she is in a group who can compete for the medals ...... .......... In men there are more probables ...In order I feel given recent performances it is likely to be Vikas Thakur .......alternatively only Sathish is possible ...next would deru jamjang ... I think they can have a lift off between these three and possible Venkata Ragala ( who is well behind Vikas currently in 85- weight category ) and see who does the best I think the weightlifting qualifications have closed for effectively for us so we will have exactly 1 + 1 weightlifters in the olympics ..................In women it would be Mirabai and for men one of the above three ..........
  17. I believe there is good chance as their score was very good at the Asian games ...they need to do not too much to qualify ,..... with scores by anilda in the recent fed games I believe they can do it ..............
  18. Definitely 15 according to me ............ wikipedia shows 11 as of now ( including badminton ) ,,,,,, in addition surely golf , tennis almost surely judo and swimming .... most other sports are closed .....we are still in the race for beach volleyball but almost no chances .................. other than this wild card possibility is sailing ...i am not sure if the wild cards have been assigned ???...so 15 almost surely ............. if wildly lucky one more .......the highest qualification in terms of sports was 14 at the 2004 ( athens ) games ....we will surely beat that here I feel
  19. good news for swimmers ...they need support ....will definitely buy speedo !!
  20. Indians doing well after day 2 at the Junior World Cup shooting at Suhl India is currently in first place 3 gold , 2 silver and 1 bronze - 6 medals ..............
  21. can we also add the ISSF junior world cup at Suhl as a non rio event ...... it gives a good idea about junior shooting talent ......PS India is leading after day 1 with 3 gold and 1 bronze
  22. Prashanth ...That list which you have prepared was great .................................possibly it would be nice if you could update the people I had outlined and Suriya outlined by Sanjib .... I think if nothing else it would give us a comprehensive list of high performing athletes we could track not just for the Olympics but later on in the Asian games .....as they are all capable of medalling for example Jinsons score in the 800m is higher than the silver medal score at the 2014 Asian games , tejinders throw is very close to the Asian games gold medal score of 19.97 .......... I actually feel that Indian athletics is showing tremendous progress in the breath and depth of all disciplines so your list of olympic qualifiers and close to qualifiers would be an authoritative list for tracking first for the quota and to also see the breath of change in the last couple of years
  23. Thanks buddy ....... but I see you have not updated a few so I would like to have your thoughts on them ....... of them I feel Basant Rana should be included in the probable quota for the 50 Km walk as he is just a 1 minute behind in a 4 hr event ............... also I see you have not added durgesh in the 400 and Jinson and two others in the 800 would love to hear your thoughts on them as well .................. Rajinder / tejinder
  24. thanks for the thorough job .................... Important week for India in athletics and wrestling
