  1. a sub 53 s by anilda and 53.06 by poovamma is good news for the relay 4*400 ...and this isthe semis possibly they would go faster in the finals
  2. really awesome performance ......................... 2 national records in one day ................... I wish they had also hit the qualifying marks but with this kind of scores they would probably do better in the next event ................ This also says that the atheletics grand prix scores ( handheld ) were not a fluke ................. Anas was also close to the national record ....................... I would also like to see the 400 meters scores closely as then they may affect our 4*400 meter and relay performances
  3. thanks buddy ......................
  4. Fed cup ............................looking forward to seeing if the hand held short sprint in the grand prix scores were a fluke or reality .................
  5. Update from day 4 from the weightlifting Olympics qualifier Women's weightlifting Good news - quota finalised in women's weightlifting for Rio ................................ though the standings will be officially announced in three days ................... the down side .............. Punam 204 kgs total here slight fall from worlds championship total of 208 ....................... almost surely with current scores India will finish 2nd after Vietnam ... I was expecting her to beat the Vietnamese and keep the contest open for the first place but that contest is over ....by the way ..... Saikhom Mirabhai has broken the Indian snatch record in the 48kgs and equalled the Indian total record in 48 kgs in this event ... a great achievement as usual not highlighted by the press Men's weightlifting Exciting event ....Indias Captain ........... Sathish Sivalingam did well to finish with 23 points ...narrowly missing out on 25 points ......he was o.n a knives edge on the weight in with being weighed in at exactly 77 kgs ...one gram more he would have been knocked out .................... then he did well in the snatch and then gave the start weight in clean and jerk as 175 kgs ( the same weight he gave to crash out of the world championships without a lift ) , luckily he moved down to 172........... and got one lift in and then missed 2 lifts at 177 .......... Currently India is on the 8th position in the qualification with 7countries to qualify but today's performance by Satish seems to help India's qualification chances as we now have 3/4 with 19 points or above if out of the remaining four 3 of them can average 19 points we can surely qualify ........ In our corner are three accomplished weightlifters Vikas / Venkata and Pardeep with Gurdeep back up ......... So tomorrow is a critical day for the men's weightlifters with two Indians in the fray ................... Vikas and Venkata Ragala need to cross 19 points ( i,e finish in the top 6 out of the qualifying nations ) to ensure that India's chances become more concrete
  6. Sivalingam has three lifts and gets a mark of 145 ( still below his PB of 150 ) in the snatch .... the critical clean and jerk is left which he had 3 bad lifts and crashed out of the 2015 worlds ..... Importantly in the B finals in the snatch he is the first position amongst the qualifier nations
  7. Update from the Olympic qualifiers sivalingams event starts ....77 kgs .................... current form poor ( crashed out of the worlds with no lift ) ...... class high - He is the best male wrestler possibly in India today . ( won the gold medal at the commonwealth with a great combined lift of 330 ) .. with Indian qualification on a knife edge ........ High hopes from him ... check out this link for live reports http://www.iwf.net/scoreboard/scoreboard3.php
  8. Thanks got that now ....seems to be fixed .......................
  9. do tell me about how to give reputation others .......... I find some people give great info but I am not able to give a reputation .....................
  10. My Take on this controversy For a person to be a spokesperson for any organisation ....he or she must have 3 things - 1) Visibility Appeal ( hence funding appeal ) 2) Value alignment with the organisation and 3) should relate to the activities of the organisation 1) Visibility appeal - Salman gets a tick on this one as he is one of the most visible faces - Actors or cricketers are the most visible faces but some sportsmen like Mary kom or Milkha are well recognised too.......... So we can select from any of them .... In fact Rajyavardhan Rathore being also now a minister would help get cororprate sponsorships a lot more 2) Values - He fails miserably on this aspect - The modesty and humbleness ( Like Sushil Kumar ) , The mental concentration ( Like Abhinav Bindra ) , the Emotional drive ( Like Mary Kom ) ,the work ethic ( Like Saina Nehwal ) ... he has none of the attributes of a great sportsperson ................... Most Indian sportsmen come from humble backgrounds who grow to become world class players ........................... So I feel someone like Sachin ....... Akshay Kumar .............. Shah Rukh ....... are far more epitomes of values like modesty, mental concentration, emotional drive and work ethic than Salman who is notorious for his poor values and comes across as a rich father's bigda beta 3) Relate to activities of the organisation ( Sports ) ..... His father salim says he was an A list swimmer, runner etc- ( really I see no evidence of it till now unless it was a list in Salim Khans diary ) ....... Salman says that if walking was a sport he would be very good ( incidentally Salman walking is a sport and India is very good at it and no ! you are not good at it ) ......... Yes if poaching was a sport Salman you would be among the best - sorry it is not a sports ............................... If we were to take people who can relate to the activities ....... I would say sachin , akshay ( who was a taekwondo black belt ) , abhishek ( Who has been a great supporter of the Kabaddi league and is there in most of the events ) , deepika ( who was a state level badminton player and the daughter of the legendary Prakash , saif the son of Indias finest cricketer Pataudi would have been the best bets not someone like salman ........... Speaking personally for me seeing " Smirking Salman" as the spokesperson for Olympians like Saina , Sushil , Yogeshwar, Abhinav , Sania makes me feel sick in the stomach My Choice for someone who ticked all the three boxes - Akshay , Sachin , Deepika , Milkha, Rajyavardhan .......................... they would make awesome spokespersons for the Olympics ........... I can imagine an Ad featuring Deepika talking about how sports helped her ( gentle footage of Prakash in the background ) ........ ..... or alternatively Akshay who is a black belt in taekwondo showing his moves and then talking about how sports helps you ................ or Sachin/ Milkha/ Rathore talking about the dedication it requires to be world class , the long hours in the field , the dedication , the work ethic .................. this would bring tears to my eyes ... I wish they had selected one of them ......... I am sure Milkha or Yogeshwar and the whole Olympic team would have proud of them ..
  11. I agree............ complete mess up by the organisers ...... Not having a backup in Delhi during summer ... anyone who organises a wedding in Delhi knows that they have to have power back up ....... completely clueless administration .................... only good thing is that we have the federation cup starting tomorrow and close after that the Indian Grand Prix again ( and if they were able to hit the time they have clocked ...they should be able to be close to it during these two events and hopefully qualify )
  12. Turkmenistan starts strongly in asian mens qualifiers weightlfting looks likely to get a quota ..................
  13. Mens qualification ..... Malaysia , Iraq and japan I feel will be at 1-3 ...... so it will be to fight it out for the next 4 places ....it is neck to neck right now ...today India Inched from a poor position to a better position ........................so good job SAMBO ...............
  14. update from the Indian Olympics qualifiers weightlifting - day 3 Women - thasana Chanu scored by world standards a pretty average 187 ......... but amongst the women qualifiers finished second for a valuable 25 points ....India is more less surely in for a quota ... as of now the only interest left is to see 1) if we have any really good weightlifter by world standards ......other mirakhom / sanjita / punam ( we need to have 4 good weightlifters to gain quotas ) 2) if punam yadav improves on her world championship effort 3) who comes first us or vietnam .............. vietnam is ahead as of now ....................... Men - Indian Men - Sambo did a great job to lift 287 ....... ( compared to pupul changmais world championship effort in the same weights at 275 ) ..................by world standards a pretty average lift ................. but for India very valuable as it garnered 19 points ......................... This pushes India back into quota contention ...... specifically as Sri Lanka's one lifter did a no lift as did one saudi ...................... Indian Mens weightlifting is very interesting 1) will we qualify ...................... after a couple of below par days Sambo did well ................... now satish , vikas and Venkata Ragala and Pardeep need to do well .......... to qualify we need 6 weightlifters out of 8 to get 19 points on an average ............. we have got 2 ( out of 3 ) who got it deepak lather( 19 ) and now unexpectedly Sambo ( 19 ) ....... so it is very interesting .......................... also the fact that some of the sri lankan and KSA lifters did no lifts today helps india....... Malaysia , Iraq and japan I feel will be at 1-3 ...... so it will be to fight it out for the next 4 places ....it is neck to neck right now ...today Inched from a poor position to a better position ........................so good job SAMBO ...............
  15. a must read for this controversy http://www.scoopwhoop.com/Dear-Salim-Khan-Stop-Insulting-Milkha-Singh-And-Dont-Call-Yourself-A-Sports-Lover/
  16. GREAT JOB GV ( AS USUAL ) ........................... HAVING A SINGLE GLANCE WEEKLY INDIAN OLYMPIC SCHEDULE IS A BOON FOR ALL OF US AT THE INDIAN NATIONAL THREAD ................................ AND HAVING IT IN THE FIRST PAGE MAKES IT EASY TO LOCATE
  17. tomorrows Indians at the asian weightlifting qualifiers men - Lampung Sambo ....not much expected from a qualifying perspective at best we can expect 12-15 points i believe ....... women - Thasana ...new weightlifter .................... not sure what we can expect but possibly 20 points or so
  18. Day2 ................India at the Olympic weightlifting qualification ....................... A poor performance by the Men's Team continues ................... Indian Gopal Anbarasu finishes 12th ..... we are now positioned 8th after two weight categories ...unless we have an unlikely hero in the heavier weight categories maybe Satish Sivalingam ............... we may be without a men's quota ............. Women's team did not have a weight lifter in this categories today ....was a little surprised as I expected Matsa Santoshi to be present in the 53 kg women ( and would be part of the Indian 4 women numbers ) along with the Punam Yadav in the 63 kg category ..................... let us see who would be the 4th then for India .................. some new weightlifters so hoping for good things from them in the women ...... Vietnam going strong but I expect India to come first or second amongst the qualifiers and definitely qualify and will definitely send Mirakhom who may then be a medal prospect in the 48 kg category at Rio

  21. Thanks gv......... I was wondering if we can put this information in the first page of the India Page ..........Like we used to in the events of the week section ( in the old totallyolympics ) ....and update this every week ( so that we have one location where we check the latest week events ) ... also I think we can add to this list the atheletics federation cup April 28-30 ..... which may be critical for one or two qualifications
  22. due to the power outage ...these marks were done using hand held equipment ............. ( our officials bungled once again ) ....................... The marks do not hold as handheld equipment is not counted for any international marks ......and also hand held timing is notoriously inaccurate for shorter sprints ........................................... But I would like to see their timings in the next event which is the federation cup after a couple of days to see how they do ............................. I am hoping that we may have 1-2 olympic qualifications ......................... The mark of 10.09 I feel is still significant as he seems to have a substantial lead over the person who came second and anas beating arokia rajiv shows that he is on a strong +ve growth curve ....on the other hand the javelin and discuss throws were disappointing ............................krishna poonia just did 55.4
  23. I am sure they should be free of doping as they being coached by Kunjarani who was the mary kom of womens weightlifting ...... a legend who was also tested and retested without even the slightest signs of doping ..... I get scared of the east european coaches .................
  24. India second in the womens weightlifting olympic qualification standings after one event ...................... What is more important is that both sanjita chanu and mirakhom improved on their world championship weights ..... mirakhom 183 kgs -> 190 kgs ............. awesome performance ............. This is close to world championship medal weights ( the world championship no 4 lifted 191 kgs and the silver medalist lifted 194 ) ....................... I am dreaming of an olympic medal in womens weightlifting once again... .... This team is being coached by Kunjarani indias greatest weightlifter and the results are showing............. just 3-4 more Kgs and mirakhom could win a medal at the olympics , ............ Depressed by the Indian men's weightlifting .... Jamjang deru had lifted 244 in mens weightlifting in 56 in the world championship ....now we seem to have some mahajan who has lifted 235 in the asian qualification ... a huge drop of 9 kgs .... I do not know what they are doing in mens we seem to be on a slow reverse ...... I feel we may not qualify we are now 7th after 56 which is indias pet event in mens
