as the difficulty level increases , it is more and more difficult to get the execution right ( with a produnova it is almost i possible to get a 9 in execution as you tend to lose some points for your posterior touching the floor ) ...................... she did improve her vault scores significantly though she had 14.683 in the world championships ...now she had 14.833 which is almost close to the 4th position at the world championships .... I am sure till now she must have been focussing on the all round to get through to rio ( and she had a great improvement of 2.7 ) ................... with the TOPS scheme she will focus on the vault and get more training ........................ but full credit to her coach Nandi who has dedicatedly brought her to this world class level

In 1956 for example - three Indians participated in gymnastics ............. I could not find their scores in wikipidea but when I checked the books of the olympics .........this is their score in the individual all-round 61 Singh Pritam IND 77.350 62 Lal Sham IND 77.100 63 Ram Anant IND 65.550 they finished 61 /62 /63 out of 63 gymnasts ................. so obviously the Indian Media has not done their research .........................

impressive to see chusovitina qualify ...she is well past 40 so what an amazing performance

why next to impossible ...... she finished 5th at the world championship in the vault ..... so a small miss by someone else and she could be in with a medal chance ...so I would say some chances ( but not next to impossible )

She now has a world class vault ......... a strong balance beam ( 13.366 ) and a reasonable floor ( 12.6 ) ....................... her uneven bars is weak ( 11.7) where she had a great improvement ....................................................but with some improvement in floor and uneven bars she can be a good all round gymnast also ........................ so great result for her an improvement of 2.7 in all round ( compared to the world championship ) is great ................... she is a definite phenom in indian gymnastics .................... It was great she had a chance to participate and she has worked on her all round .................... currently she is no 1 in the vault in the test event and would definitely win a medal here in this test event .............

Taking nothing away from Dipa ......... This is our 6 olympic qualifier in gymnastics we had 2 in 1952 and 3 in 1956 ................... but our first female qualifier , our first in 60 years and the first one with a true medal prospect .....................

for the all round only the first vault is considered so her score for the all round remains 15.066...................... but the avg is considered for the vault individual where she will definitely make the grade

as usual on vault outstanding .................. as you can see it is the best performance today om vault ..... vault is a tough ... a small mistake and she could crash to a lower score ...so it is good ...now her uneven bars in the world she just got 10.00 ...................

dipa 15.066 on the vault ...just .033 less than she got in the worlds ...... her score is exactly same as worlds as of now ....let us see what she gets in her non favorite apparatus .......uneven and beam........let us pray she does not fall on either .................

last time she performed really poorly in the uneven bars ....I think she fell of twice ....... if she gets a reasonable 11+ there she should be in a safe zone

actually Indian mens team is ranked 18th as per ittf http://www.ittf.com/ittf_ranking/ittf_team_ranking.html from the sixteen team quotas remove 3 countries who will be below us in rank ( NAmerica . Latin America and Africa ) who will be below us ( this is assuming Host country quota is added back and brazil tops which is likely to do ) we need to be in the top 13 positions in terms of countries who have two quota places now let us remove the surefire names Germany Portugal Japan Korea China Sweden so it depends on the next 7 seats ........................so it depends on the remaining countries getting 2 quota places based on european qualification / ittf ranking France / Austria / russia / poland/ Croatia / czech / denmark / taiwan/ greece / england ... if any four of these countries do not get 2 quota places we will get a team quota ,..... of these only russia has single quota ( with three quota places left in europe and then ranking places ) ... I feel quite a few of these countries will not get a second quota .......................so India has a reasonable chance

Sharath has a comparitively easier final match but mouma faces the korean who is ranked 35 or so ...... so would be tough but I would be interested even if she loses she has another chance I am not sure who is there in the other draw but seems to give her a decent chance .........

I hope I do not sound pedantic but India has had gymnasts in the olympics before .. I think we had 2 in the 1952 olympics and 3 at the 1956 olympics ..... but we have never had a better gymnast than Dipa ..... so more power to her

sharath has obviously lost to some degree on purpose ...losing the last two sets consistently after wining three ... I think he is try to go thru the second round ( asian ) ...where he will find it very difcciult but then will almost defintely get thru on the world ranking area ... If soumyajit or any of the others qualify ... sharath is almost certain to get in through the world ranking ...he is effectively 39 currently ..................... so it may be better if one of the others qualify but then he cannot pull out as there is a slight chance that he may not get in through the world ranking ..................
