  2. Since we have been discussing quotas for india ...... I thought it may be fun to see the maximum quotas India has ever got in each sport, we have already got the most Quotas in a single games in two sports already for Rio ............... and hopefully in a few more SPORT MOST QUOTAS GAMES Atheletics 24 2000 sydney Badminton 5 2012 london Boxing 8 2012 london Archery 6 ( Maximum) 2004 &2012 Cycling 9 1948 london Football 17 1956 melbourn Shooting 12 2016 Rio swimming 7 1948 London Hockey 32 ( maximum ) 2016 Rio Table tennis 4 1992 barcelona Tennis 7 2012 London waterpolo 10 1952 helsinki Weightlifting 5 1996 Atlanta Wrestling 8 1964 & 1972 & 1984 Gymnastics 3 1956 melbourn Sailing 3 1972 athens Art competitions 2 1948 london Judo 5 1992 beijing Rowing 3 2008 & 2012 Diving 2 1964 tokyo Basketball 12 1980 moscow Equistrian 4 1980 moscow Golf NA
  3. In shooting though the seeding is very ephemeral ............. by the next scores which should be out this month end many of the top few players would go down the order and new players would go forward .................. so seeding do not necessarily show the best shooters
  4. Actually in the race to Rio MS Kidambi has 50000 pts right now and even if he fails in all tournaments in the next 2 months he would reach rio in the top 16 . actually five Indians have a theoretical chance ........Taking only the tournaments from last may into account -> Ajay has 40000 pts , Kashyap 38000, Prannoy 37000 pts , Sai 36000 and Sameer 35000 ( this is approx ) ...................... they would need to increase their scores to approx 50000 by April end to be on the safe side and finish in the top 16 ....... There are just 4 major tournaments left ................. Indian and Singapore Superseries and the Malaysian Superseries premier and there is the badminton asia open individual ( carrying the same points as a super series ) and fifth not with the same points is the china masters ( grand prix gold ) World Ranking Points Table Rounds BWF Events(BWF World WCH & OG) BWF Superseries Finals & Premier Super series Grand Prix Gold Grand Prix Intl Challenge Intl Series Future Series Winner 12000 11000 9200 7000 5500 4000 2500 1700 Runner up 10200 9350 7800 5950 4680 3400 2130 1420 *3/4 8400 7700 6420 4900 3850 2800 1750 1170 5/8 6600 6050 5040 3850 3030 2200 1370 920 9/16 4800 4320 3600 2720 2110 1520 920 600 17/32 3000 2660 2220 1670 1290 920 550 350 33/64 1200 1060 880 660 510 360 210 130 65/128 600 520 430 320 240 170 100 60 129/256 240 170 130 100 70 40 20 257/512 120 80 60 45 30 20 10 513/1024 60 40 30 30 20 10 5 so for ajay to make it he needs to be in the semi-s of two of the first 4 tournaments to be in with a shot .................... presumably if he reaches the quarters of 3 of the 4 the will be in with a shot .... for kashyap/ prannoy the job is just the same almost except that they need to reach an extra quarter ( Kashyap not playing in the Indian superseries makes his job more difficult but not impossible ) ....so Ajay and Prannoy have a chance but they need to reach at least the quarters of the Indian Open to retain this chance Sai and Sameer have a long shot they would probably need to win a major title of these to be in with a chance ( also since they are coming through qualifiers ) this makes their task almost impossible
  5. Great video of sarita ...... outlining her struggles including the one year suspension .. which ended last year end .... she won a gold in the south asian games after that http://www.thequint.com/women/2016/03/05/iamshatterproof-a-fighter-never-gives-up
  6. This qualification is tough with just the first 3 in men and first two in women making it through .................... for india we have shiva and Mary Kom seeded first and vikas seeded second ... so obviously we would hope that these three would win the quotas ................ also since it would be really tough after this for the 91 / 91+ and 48 to get a chance at the final tournaments hoping that either Laishram ( 48-) or Satish ( 91+ ) or sarita in the pivotal 60 kgs make it giving us 4-5 quotas in this and then in the final events at least one more women and three more men make it to bring us back to londons 8 quotas
  7. along with russia , now chinese swimming seems to be under investigation ...... http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/olympics/2016/03/24/china-wada-drug-tests-swimmers/82206724/
  8. since she is the lowest qualifier on the all round ....would that be easy ?.... she would require to overtake 3 people who qualified above her ............. and how does the qualification work here
  9. out of the first 3 indian doubles pairs in action today , two win to reach QF at the NZ open .............. Good win for Sikki and chopra , close result for jwala and ashwini .............. aswini and manu lost to highly ranked korean pair but they seem to have good potential ....wish they will stay together which would give us a good option to kona / balan........... sikki and chopra seem to doing well too...... Another possible good pair in the mixed doubles
  10. Indians Had a good start to the Nz open ................. 4 out of 4 doubles pairs won to reach round of 16 .......................
  11. Great analysis ................... What is the scene in women's discus ...why is seema not there even amongst the one close- is she injured .... also I think we have Basant Bahadur Singh Rana who clocked 4 : 07:24 at the recent jaipur nationals in the 50 km race walk which is just a 1:24 minutes of the A standard, also I remember a 20km women walker did well at the saf games came close - I feel their name should also be added in the ones close to qualification as we have one place left in those disciplines
  12. As per the report by Hindu .....there was an open event at the same time as the Asian 20 Km race walking event and two Indians clocked 1:20 times ( better than Gurmeets 1:20 ) , and one of them equalled irfans national record at 1:20:21................ This is great news as then there were 3 indians recording 1:20 timings in one event ...it is only a matter of time that they break the 1:20 barrier and reach 1:19 or so which could put them into medal contention at the olympics ( 2015 IAAF world championship 20km gold medal was 1:19:14 and bronze at 1:19:57 ) "Interestingly Devender equalled the four-year-old national record of K.T. Irfan while finishing fifth overall in 1:20.21s while Manish was sixth in 1:20.26" http://www.thehindu.com/todays-paper/tp-sports/gold-for-gurmeet-but-rio-still-in-doubt/article8382725.ece
  13. That is really good news !!!!!!!....................... she is someone we all need to be proud of ..... and I trust she gets to rio ..... no one deserves it more
  14. prasanth what was the final positions or the indian sailors
