  1. https://sportsfeed.gr/apokleistiko-thetiko-deigma-ntopingk-stin-elliniki-olympiaki-omada-stivoy/ One of our athletes tested positive for doping, they aren't releasing the name yet, but they said it is a woman and that the first alternate in her event is another Greek (although it may seem impossible at this point for her to compete), so it must be one of the race walkers...
  2. Well in the end Giannis Antetokounmpo was chosen with...Antigoni Drisbioti. Apparently, it was agreed that Giannis would be the male flag bearer and there was a vote between Drisbioti, Sakkari, Evangelia Platanioti, and Margarita Plevritou and Drisbioti won the vote. I think it's very random and even some of the other voting options were random. Girls like Teltsidou, Kaztouraki, and Gkountoura who have chances for medals would've been better in my opinion. Or Tzengko even but I guess having two children of immigrants as the flag bearers would've seemed too political. Sakkari is ranked higher than Drisbioti, is more well known, was closer to winning a medal than Drisbioti in the past, and has a better chance of winning one in Paris than all the others except maybe Plevritou. Drisbioti gave a sob story to the Greek media a few years ago about not receiving support (which I agree with btw) and she became known and it became trendy to support her (I like her too but think it's excessive, and people probably don't realise that most of her big medals were in a non-Olympic category), but she is good at walking which she will need to do at the opening ceremony so
  3. I haven't seen it on our sports sites, but it is interesting that suddenly the snake Sloukas cares about morals after what he did in the past year (I am bitter about his decisions regarding club basketball, don't mind me )
  4. She is a tennis player, she has been ranked in the top 10 for almost 3 years now She has around 600.000 followers on Instagram also, and was in a Netflix show, she is quite popular and also is dating our Prime Minister's son for several years!
  5. Thank you! Sorry for Croatia, hopefully we will both be in LA 2028!
  6. It is expected that we will announce in the next hours Giannis Antetokounmpo and Maria Sakkari Apparently, Tentoglou and Stefanidi declined as their events don't start until much later, and Ntouskos is competing at 10:00 AM on Day 1, and Petrounias and Korakaki already did it in Tokyo, so we decided to go for the famous athletes. Well, I think it will be hard for other countries to match our star power!
  7. Such a shame that like , will also probably have their first ever Olympic medal come from a naturalised athlete who has nothing to do with the country... Also in before they start trying to claim Dimas, Sabanis, and Kokas Manjani and I think Mitrou were actually Albanians though to be fair.
  8. Our two gold medalists from Tokyo will be back (Ntouskos in rowing and Tentoglou in long jump), also we have three other gold medalists from Rio who will be in Paris (Stefanidi in pole vault - got 4th in Tokyo, Korakaki in shooting - got 6th in Tokyo, Petrounias in gymnastics - got bronze in Tokyo).
  9. Any word on our final roster? @George_D It seems Kostas Antetokounmpo will not be able to play due to his new injury, I read that Kouzeloglou will be the backup due to the position he plays. Not exactly an Olympic level player...Is Agravanis still struggling with injury? Also what about Sloukas and Papapetrou who claim to be injured, will they be back in time and if so will they join the team? I can't see Moraitis going considering he barely played in the OQT and is our "weakest" player probably.
  10. I hate these new formats but of course if UEFA can make a bigger profit they will change everything!
  11. We end with 101, our most since London 2012! Getting back in men's basketball and women's water polo, both for the first time since 2008, certainly helped! Otherwise we would have 76 which would've been our smallest team since Barcelona 1992! For @Benolympique Artistic Swimming 2F Athletics 4M 10F Basketball 12M Cycling 1M Equestrian 1F Fencing 1F Gymnastics 1M Judo 1M 1F Rowing 3M 4F Sailing 3M 1F Shooting 2M 3F Swimming 14M 3F Table Tennis 1M Tennis 2M 2F Waterpolo 13M 13F Wrestling 2M 1F In total 59M + 42F = 101 Unfortunately no weightlifting for the first time since 1956!
  12. I was confused why you said this until I realised I wrote 10km instead of 10m
  13. What?? It doesn't show any message for me.
  14. I've actually been to that bar...several times
  15. Spot on @Monzanatorabout Gauff. She's had a horrible year so far in my opinion, every time I've watched her play she has been dreadful but she gets so many easy draws in every tournament and is able to somehow find her way in the latter stages of many tournaments before finally facing good opposition. I mean compare her draws to Swiatek's or Rybakina's for example and they are so so different!
  16. I find her to be fake and arrogant. There are many examples of her attitude/approach to the sport since winning the US Open that I have questioned (such as always firing coaches, questionable retirements from matches/tournaments, refusing to play qualifying at Roland Garros as if she is entitled to unlimited wildcards, and many more). You don't have to go too far back, I mean even a few days ago she withdrew from mixed doubles which was obviously very controversial as it was Murray's last Wimbledon. She shouldn't have agreed to play with him if she wasn't willing to go through with it. Also her fans and the British media have been unbearable anytime she's done well (which is rare but still), acting like she is the queen of the sport or something . I thought she was for sure supposed to have 10 GS by now the way they acted when she first became big? I mean even a few days ago they asked Sakkari how special it would be to play Raducanu at Wimbledon or something like that (I forgot exactly how they worded it), as if Raducanu is Serena and Sakkari is some unknown player in her first big tournament...I know that's not Emma's fault but it certainly doesn't help her cause but I'm sure she is happy to play along as long as they give her the big money...
  17. Masarova still would be good for Switzerland, she'd be their highest ranked player now that Bencic is on maternity leave.
  18. 2024 European Junior Championships: GOLD: Evangelos Ntoumas - Men's 100m breaststroke
  19. This is so great! The breaststroke has always been our weakest style and now that we have someone promising for the first time in many years, it's a really good sign. Hopefully our medley relay teams should be a lot better in 2028 now that we finally found a good breaststroke swimmer. But of course he needs to continue improving
  20. Water Polo (26) Stylianos Argyropoulos (men's team) Alexandra Asimaki (women's team) Ioanna Chydirioti (women's team) Chrysoula Diamantopoulou (women's team) Nikoleta Eleftheriadou (women's team) Ioannis Fountoulis (men's team) Konstantinos Genidounias (men's team) Athina Giannopoulou (women's team) Nikolaos Gkillas (men's team) Konstantinos Kakaris (men's team) Efstathios Kalogeropoulos (men's team) Maria Myriokefalitaki (women's team) Dimitrios Nikolaidis (men's team) Eirini Ninou (women's team) Alexandros Papanastasiou (men's team) Nikolaos Papanikolaou (men's team) Maria Patra (women's team) Eleftheria Plevritou (women's team) Margarita Plevritou (women's team) Vasiliki Plevritou (women's team) Dimitrios Skoumpakis (men's team) Ioanna Stamatopoulou (women's team) Panagiotis Tzortzatos (men's team) Angelos Vlachopoulos (men's team) Eleni Xenaki (women's team) Emmanouil Zerdevas (men's team)
  21. TEAM 1. Emmanouil Zerdevas 2. Konstantinos Genidounias 3. Dimitrios Skoumpakis 4. Efstathios Kalogeropoulos 5. Ioannis Fountoulis 6. Alexandros Papanastasiou 7. Nikolaos Gkillas 8. Stylianos Argyropoulos 9. Nikolaos Papanikolaou 10. Konstantinos Kakaris 11. Dimitrios Nikolaidis 12. Angelos Vlachopoulos 13. Panagiotis Tzortzatos Coach: Theodoros Vlachos Only 7/13 same players from Tokyo. Kapotsis, Kolomvos, and Mourikis retired from the national team. Galanidis was replaced by Tzortzatos as our backup goalkeeper. Gkiouvetsis and surprisingly Dervisis were cut from the national team in the last few days. Honestly I think this team on paper is stronger than the team that went to Tokyo, we only lost minor players mostly and have some new younger players or guys who were young in Tokyo and barely played are now more experienced but let's see...
  22. Panagiota Dosi got a women's high jump quota, she was originally 1 out. Unfortunately, no other Greeks got in after withdrawals. I will actually be on holiday on Dosi's island during the high jump final, but she probably won't qualify, otherwise it would've been cool if there was some sort of viewing party in the town square or something.
  23. Great result for 21 yo Anastasia Dragomirova at our National Championships for combined events She got a new U23 NR with 5965 points, the previous record was 5927 points from 2000. And her previous PB was 5636 from 2023. She is also now third all-time in Greece for the women's category (our NR is 6235 from 2006). Dragomirova was very good as a teenager in the field events, and Tentoglou's coach wanted to take her and make her a long jumper (she has the U18NR of 6.44 from when she was 16 yo), but she insisted on being a heptathlete. Once the pandemic hit, her results really suffered. She also had some injuries and was only doing shot put for a while. She was always weak in the track events but especially 800m. Today, she got a new PB in 800m of 2:30.50 (she had 2:35.19 from earlier this year), new PB in javelin throw of 50.28 (she had 50.07 from 2023), new PB in the 100m hurdles of 14.37 (she had 14.57 from earlier this year), and equaled her high jump PB of 1.78 (from 2020). Her other results today were 15.15 in shot put (her PB is 15.69 from 2021), 6.05 in long jump (her PB is 6.44 from 2019), and 26.01 from 200m (she has 25.46 from 2019). She still has work to do but it's nice to see her finally heading in the right direction again!
