  1. I will never claim to be a dressage expert. I am only relying on what was told to me. One more thing though, you say Anky van Grunsven was the highest profile rider criticized for Rollkur, my friend said Bonfire was probably the best dressage horse ever but her next superstar, Salinero, was ridiculously overrated. Do you agree or is that unfair?
  2. OK @dcro I'd like your opinion on this. Yesterday I was talking to somebody to somebody who lives 1km from me and who used to compete at a good national level in dressage. She told me that judges from the English speaking world will never give high marks to German and Dutch riders with links to the RollKur method of training (like, for example, Werth) dressage horses because they believe it is cruel to the horses. Do you believe this is true?

  4. Dean needs one more silver medal to break the Commonwealth Games record for most silvers without winning a gold at a single games
  5. Actually I'm surprised that people think that cricket in 2028 is a serious possibility. Of course it'll get in for 2032 but 2028? No way
  6. Cricket, breaking, baseball/softball, flag football, lacrosse, karate, kickboxing, squash and motorsport federations invited to submit applications inclusion at 2028 Games
  7. It's the big problem for the mixed 4 x 400. Who you pick affects the performances of the men's and women's 4 x 400s. For better or for worse.
  8. One point we should make is about the IOC President Avery Brundage, who was powerful in US sport even before he got the job with the IOC. He was noted to be very discriminatory towards Jews, black people and native Americans and competed against Thorpe at the 1912 Olympics. It's possible Thorpe would have got his medals back 50-70 years ago if Brundage hadn't been in charge.
  9. In 1982 the original doucuments from 1912 were found in the IOC archives. The rules stated that 30 days after the Games ended, if no appeal was made, then the results could not be changed. Thorpe was not stripped of his medal until 1913. Also I'm told that today's decision would not have taken place if any of the relatives of the Swede and Norwegian who were upgraded to gold in 1913 would have objected.
  10. Interestingly Thorpe was only reinstated as joint champion in 1982 when it was discovered that the IOC broke their own rules when they disqualified him.
  11. Edinburgh winning over Chicago and Medellin on the "not getting murdered" tiebreak rule. Which I'm told that some people think is important
  12. Also what's your prediction as to how long the opening ceremony will have gone on for before this song shows up
  13. Any idea who the oldest and youngest competitors are?
  14. And the answer was - he resigned this morning
  15. .Question now is whether Boris resigns tomorrow, Friday or gets voted out of office by his own party next week
  16. For those of you who have never seen this. Bjorn Lilleien's commentary on the Norway - England football in 1981 is a classic
  17. Lucky Nelson wasn't riding a bike though. I wouldn't have thought he'd have much of a chance to win, knowing his limitations...
  18. Nah, just talked to somebody who works with the Olympic Channel. It's US/NBC that's closing their version of the channel down - not the IOC
  19. You'd have thought he'd be too busy managing Everton to win a stage of the tour....
