And at the same time, risk people contracting the virus and spreading it all over the world.  The risk of holding the Olympics isn't just that people attending will get sick, but that they'll be a danger to others.

Cancelling sporting events is being overly cautious to be sure, but if doing that for a few weeks might help contain the spread of the virus, that's a small price to pay to potentially save people's lives.

There is ZERO chance of that happening.  That would be a horrendous decision.  Everything is not ready.  The Coliseum isn't set up for athletics.  The temporary swimming venue isn't there.  And do we know if UCLA and USC dorms are ready to go?

I remember hearing talk that if the Qatar got stripped of the 2022 World Cup, that the United States would offer to step in.  No thank you.  I don't want their sloppy seconds.  As it is with LA.. let them host the 2028 Olympics that they will have spent over a decade planning for.  Not to rush up and have a half-assed Olympics.

Love that there's someone on the Olympic team who is older than I am! Great to have their veteran leadership headed to Japan

Olympic baseball gets a huge talent-pool boost

Players on 40-man rosters not in the major leagues will be eligible for the Olympics.  That's a big boost for the sport since originally anyone on a 40-man roster would not be allowed to participate in Tokyo.

That reminds me a comedy scene of a Polish group as two guys were "teaching" English to the audience. Then the third guy came on the scene and they asked him:
    - What's your name?
    - Wacek (which is a short form from a name "Wacław", but also used as the word for that organ)
    - And what is "Wacek" in English?
    - ... Richard.
    - No, you're wrong.
    - (ashamed) Dick.

American TV influence very evident.. every single game involving the United States is either 11:05 or 21:45 local time.  Not that it's a coincidence or anything

The DH isn't going away anytime soon.  Much more likely it gets adopted by the NL before the AL gets rid of it.

United States  clinches a spot in Tokyo with a 4-0 win over Mexico.  They will face Canada in what is essentially a friendly on Sunday.  In 8 games, USA and Canada have combined to score 45 goals and have conceded 0.

Since I'm likely going to become the resident expert here on all things NBC Olympics, here's what I've gathered on Peacock..

There are 3 tiers of service.  A lot of the content is available for free, but it will be ad-supported.  That includes things like libraries of old TV shows, plus access to next day airings of shows on NBC.  Then there's the paid tier.  $5 gets you additional content which will include among other things, access to NBC late night shows before they air on late night (i.e. Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers).  And the third tier is $10.  That's the same as the $5 tier, except it is ad free.

In terms of Olympic content, Peacock will have exclusive streaming of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.  I'm guessing that means it will NOT be available on the Sports app, although to my knowledge, that's where all the event streaming will come from.  So that, as usual, will be tied to whether or not you have a cable subscription.  But there will be additional programming exclusive to Peacock.  No idea at the moment if this will be on the free tier or only as part of the paid service..

Plus, it sounds like Peacock will have all the live streaming of the Paralympics.  They're promising more than 1,000 hours.  And I have a feeling they'll continue to grow as we get closer to Beijing.

Don't know if I'll become a regular subscriber, but I'll gladly pay $10 for a month to get all that!

Maybe it does in Asia just because that's 1 of the only times they go head to head with players from MLB.  But if you ask anyone outside of Japan for his biggest career achievements, I doubt winning the WBC is going to be that high up there.

Baseball isn't a sport that lends itself well to having a major international tournament on the scale of the Olympics.  Combine that with the fact that it's difficult to get all of the best players all together, it will never have the kind of worldwide recognition other sports might.

Tour de Ski to wake up the morning.  Disappointed in the Americans' performance.  Looking forward to the sprints tomorrow.  Olympic Channel here in the US is airing that live, so I'll DVR it for first thing when I wake up in the morning!
