So by extension handball is only an Olympic sport when it's held in Europe, presumably.

Another very obvious way to free up spots for more worthy team sports like cricket: get rid of 4 teams in men's football. I mean, this is a no brainer. How much time will it take for them to do this? This is the one quota reduction that no one will be upset about because no one cares about the men's football tournament at the Games, yet it has 16 teams, unlike any other teamsport.

The drop off of the West Indies is sad, but as other countries continue to invest in cricket the region is getting left behind. Perhaps a new generation will step up.

Chmm, 13th place for our very rookie Lithuanian men's sprint team is fairly okay. 
 
The very first time for Lithuanian men in a team event on a World Championship stage, previously only started in the European Championships once.
 
Lots and lots of work left to be done if they want to contend for the Olympics, but I wouldn't completely write them off just yet.

We think alike. Every European quota won here reduces the competition at the next continental championships.

Good that someone from Pan America qualified here. Not that we are anywhere close at grabbing one of the Pan American quotas, but getting rid of some competition is always good.

We need a bit of perspective here. At the "disastrous Tokyo regatta" GB had nine top four finishes in the fourteen Olympic classes compared with eight top three finishes this year. The truth is there is often only a small gap between what is regarded as success and failure. GB's performance was disappointing last year but not the disaster it has been painted in some quarters and congratulations to them for turning things around so quickly.
 
Congratulations too to the Netherlands on a series of great performances across a range of boats. Also pleased to see a resurgence in Romanian rowing with the promise of more to come after they topped the medal table at this month's European U23 championships. Great performances too from Ireland who are improving and growing and Ukraine given the circumstances in which they have had to prepare and perform.
 
Disappointing from Australia - no golds, when did that last happen - New Zealand, the US and Canada. How much of this is down to lost competition after Covid? And finally Germany with an outstanding men's sculler and then pretty much nothing. No German men's eight in the A final 🙄. What has happened to German rowing?
 
Overall an interesting regatta with some great racing. The next two years are going to be fascinating.
