  1. What a special cyclist Pogacar is. Every time he manages to surprise me again with how good he is. He's so good it's almost hard to imagine Vingegaard has beaten him twice.
  2. Another injury in the Dutch squad today, handball player Zoe Sprengers will also miss the tournament due to a knee injury suffered in the final practice game versus South Korea yesterday. She will be replaced by reserve player Judith van der Helm, who had a succesfull tournament at the U20 World Championship a couple weeks ago.
  3. The TeamNL house in the village has been nicely decorated and the first athletes (the womens archery team) arrived today by train. Tomorrow the next groups of athletes will arrive: skateboarders, gymnasts, the male archer and the womens handball team. All travelling by train or bus from the Netherlands. The hockeyteams will follow on monday. I hope the TeamNL media team will once again make daily vlogs from the village, these were a highlight in Tokyo and Beijing!
  4. Hmm, looks like this stream is purely long jump and pole vault. I saw the heptathletes preparing in the background for the high jump starting at 10:00, but there's no footage of the heptathlon or shot put that should also be going on at the moment.
  5. I don't think have been underestimated at all, this is a very optimistic prediction for us! I don't mind it though, feel free to let these predictions come true completely
  6. I've got an even worse example, in my city there's a billboard that displays live scores of the Euros matches in a bus stop. I see it every time I ride my bike home from work, when usually the 18:00 matches were going on.
  7. I voted and predict to be around the 9th or 10th spot, close to around +/- 10 gold medals. I previously predicted 12 gold medals for us, but it's much harder to predict where that would place us in the grand scheme of things.
  8. I agree. I also feel more connected when I get to know things live as they happen and seeing the reactions of friends on whatsapp or other people online, instead of not reading news and watching the events in my own time. Sports are all about sharing the moment. On top of that I also don't have time to watch reruns, so avoiding spoilers isn't really worth it either way.
  9. I love the dedication you all have to watching the Olympics! I have the entire first week free from work and I hope to spend whole days watching the Games just like you, but also excercising (running/biking/climbing) every day like I love to do when I've got time off work. I've managed to plan most activities with my girlfriend, friends or sports in the morning so far, so my days will probably be: 09:00 - 12:00 social activities 12:00 - 23:00 watching sports Late night watching the daily NOS talkshow
  10. I am allergic to streaming services and monthly subscriptions, but during the Olympic Games I will make one exception in this maze of different streaming services trying to wring every cent of money from their customers. But now I am lost. @heywoodu I wanted to take 1 month of Discovery Plus, but is that still what I have to do? Or do I need HBO Max now? If I get Discovery Plus, will it still be possible to view the Games on a website, but just not on an app, is that the only thing that changed? Their website has like no information, just ads for their own shows.

  12. IFSC World Cup: Lead - Innsbruck Men's Final: 1) Jakob Schubert - 45 2) Alexander Megos - 42+ 3) Toby Roberts - 41+ 4) Colin Duffy - 40+ 5) Shuta Tanaka - 34+ 6) Taisei Homma - 29 7) Jonas Utelli - 29 8) Tomoa Narasaki - 28+ Women's Final: 1) Janja Garnbret - TOP 2) Ai Mori - TOP 3) Chaehyun Seo - 36 4) Jessica Pilz - 22+ 5) Aleksandra Totkova - 22+ 6) Anastasia Sanders - 22+ 7) Mattea Pötzi - 22+ 8) Yuetong Zhang - 21+ Didn't get to watch it this year, but Innsbruck is such a beautiful climbing world cup with the outdoor wall and view of the Alps!
  13. UCI XCO World Cup Crans-Montana, June 21-23 Women's Elite 1. Loana Lecomte 2. Alessandra Keller 3. Puck Pieterse Men's Elite 1. Thomas Pidcock 2. Mathias Flückiger 3. Luca Braidot UCI XCO World Cup Les Gets, July 5-7 Women's Elite 1. Puck Pieterse 2. Candice Lill 3. Alessandra Keller Men's Elite 1. Alan Hatherly 2. Mathias Flückiger 3. Simon Andreassen Final two world cups before the Olympics! Surprisingly another great weekend for this weekend. Be it in the absence of Lecomte and Ferrand-Prevot on the womens side and Pidcock on the mens side.
  14. team was announced this week: Celeste Plak Jolien Knollema Juliet Lohuis Sarah van Aalen Anne Buijs Britt Bongaerts Indy Baijens Marrit Jasper Nika Daalderop Eline Timmerman Florien Reesink Elles Dambrink Nova Marring (reserve) Only two players remaining from the 2016 Olympic squad: Celeste Plak and Anne Buijs. Technically there is a third, because former setter Laura Dijkema is joining the coaching staff. Nova Marring as a reserve is a surprise to me, I would've expected her over Knollema or Plak (Buijs can also play her position I believe). She is one of the highlights of the new generation. What do you think @CCB @AsensioWillemsen?
  15. This is it for me. It's just a general preference for the underdog. I have nothing personal against individual athletes from these countries, but it's just nice whenever anyone else gets a chance to win. Like you say, it's more of a subtle pleasure than a hatred
  16. I was thinking about this one still. I am going to the TeamNL house on day 14 and it's a pretty big day as well: womens hockey team, Harrie Lavreysen individual sprint, India Sardjoe breaking, Jessica Schilder shot put, Stam/Schoon beach volleyball and Anouk Vetter heptathlon. Can't wait to watch some of these on a big screen and a crowd of orange! But I agree day 5-8 are the biggest days due to rowing, sailing, judo and swimming. Day 6 might be the biggest one, with four rowing finals (w2x/m2x/w4-/m4-), two sailing medal races (49er, 49erFX), Guusje Steenhuis and Michael Korrel in judo and Tes Schouten swimming 200m breaststroke.
  17. I agree if Ellen van Dijk doesn't medal, we will not be winning any medals on day 1. We have a serious contender on day 2 though with Puck Pieterse on the mountain bike. And on day 3 there is a small chance for Tes Schouten on the 100m breaststroke, but I guess only the 200m is realistically medal chance for her. And on day 16 there is also the Keirin for Harrie Lavreysen. Never a sure medal in keirin, but he's still a massive contender.
  18. I can't really think of a better answer than this, I don't dislike many individual athletes personally. I do have some extra dislike however for Sydney McLaughlin, because it's just unfair that she's an unbeatable machine in the specific 400m hurdles discipline of our most huggable, nice, humble and inspiring athlete
  19. Some athletes I particularly like are: Nafi Thiam Jaroslava Mahuchikh Laura Muir Summer McIntosh Bartosz Kurek Joanna Wolosz Janja Garnbret Purely coincidental that two of my favorite volleyball players are Polish. Other than that I usually cheer for the Dutch or the underdogs.
  20. A Dutch beach volleyball match almost every day starting on sunday. I can't wait. Possibly the biggest group stage match Stam/Schoon - Carol/Barbara is on a nice time to watch as well on friday 17:00.
  21. Most of my picks have all been named already, but I'll go anyway. My first thoughts were: womens field hockey, Sydney McLaughlin in 400mH, Janja Garnbret in boulder/lead climbing. Some new ones: Leon Marchand 400m IM swimming and the Abe siblings in judo.
  22. Final results: Semi finals 24 - 28 32 - 26 Bronze final 34 - 24 Final 26 - 29 Second bronze in the U20 world championship in a row for the Dutch team, hopefully some of these young women make it into the senior team, like Kim Molenaar from last year's bronze team who is now in the preliminary selection for Paris.
  23. I finished my first ever triathlon today! It was a 1/4 distance and I enjoyed every minute of it! When I started the cycling I even had some hopes of running a sub-40:00 10K at the end, but there was so much headwind I really started to feel my legs by the end of the cycling. I still ended up overtaking tons of people during the running segment to finish in 2:33.42 in the end, way overshooting my goal of just finishing and hopefully below 2:45.xx. I started learning freestyle swimming in november last year and borrowed my dads road bike around that same time (I had a MTB, but no experience road cycling). Feels amazing to finally finish this goal! Now it's time to find a new goal for next year. I'm still considering a marathon or maybe 10+ day backpacking hike in the mountains.
  24. Both field hockey tournaments are contenders for a repeat podium. But even with only like 5 serious contenders, there'a still so many factors in a team sport that an exact repeat remains a small chance. Interesting question!
  25. 1. I'll be visiting two beach volleyball QFs, a field hockey semifinal and a morning session in Athletics (incl. 4x400m series!). Also spending two evenings in the TeamNL house probably. 2. I usualle support when there's no Dutch to cheer for. Also the volleyball men's team because I had a great time seeing them live last year. For the third nation I'm gonna cheat and say any underdog or smaller nation.
