  1. I'd say the medal chances to look forward to so far for are: Day 1 - Ellen van Dijk and Demi Vollering (W individual time trial) Day 2 - Puck Pieterse (W cross-country), Arno Kamminga (M 100m breast) Day 3 - no big chances, but potentially Archery men team, Mathieu van der Poel (M cross-country), Maikel van der Vleuten (jumping), Tes Schouten (W 100m breast) Day 4 - Joanne van Lieshout (Judo W -63 kg) Day 5 - Sanne van Dijke (Judo W -70 kg), Marrit Steenbergen (W 100m free), men & women quadruple sculls
  2. Day 6 could be a really great day for the ! We've got at least seven medal contenders in Rowing (M2x and W4-), Sailing (M+W Skiff), Judo (Guusje Steenhuis and Michael Korrel) and Swimming (Tes Schouten in W 200m breast).
  3. That would be great! Maybe the Dutch NOS article was just confusing in its wording then, they mentioned it was picked by the hosts Tokyo and Paris but was not on LA's list as a host. If it becomes permanent that's still technically correct I guess. I hope you're right and I just misread it, thank you!
  4. I haven't seen anyone mention it yet, but apparently sport climbing is out? That was by far my favorite of the new sports and a really great addition to the Olympic Programme. It surprises me as well, cause climbing is practiced a lot in the US and everywhere. Just a huge missed opportunity if climbing gets dropped honestly. This sport deserves 3 seperate medals for speed, lead and boulder.
  5. I think it will depend on the race calendar for her just like on the mens side, if there is a Tour de France femmes before the Games that will be her main focus and I wouldn't see her beating the specialists Dygert, Brown, Van Dijk or Reusser. But who know, she has been grown really strong this year and the last.
  6. For the womens time trial I have a gut feeling Ellen van Dijk is going to do something special. She's currently pregnant and she'll be 37 years old in Paris, but a time trial medal at the Olympics is her final goal before retiring and I think she might be able to win one behind Dygert and Brown.
  7. Ahh good old Johan Cruyff, man of many quotes!
  8. So Finn Florijn (M4x) and Karolien Florijn (W1x) are both world champions. Imagine if they repeat this incredible achievement in Paris, has there ever been a family where father (Ronald Florijn, gold in Seoul 1988 and Atlanta 1996), son and sister are all Olympic champions? Very historic world championship for all around. It is starting to feel normal how dominant the Dutch rowers are, but after so many silvers and bronzes I have to keep reminding myself that a gold medal in rowing is still not an easy feat at all.
  9. So far has won all games with a convincing 3-0 and now we face and will probably convincingly lose 0-3. Every game has felt a bit predictable to me, I was hoping we'd face some of the teams close to us in the ranking like , or .
  10. Bit late to the party, but I was too busy partying to post... 4x400M WORLD CHAMPIONSSS!!!! What a massive performance by the whole team and Bol especially
  11. Femke Bol was sooo happy! And I was so happy to see her so
  12. Such a crazy depth on the 400m. It's quickly becoming my favorite distance. Would love to one day see a final with Paulino, Kaczmarek, Williams, McLaughlin, Miller-Uibo, Wilson and Bol.
  13. Another NR for Laros!! Really showed himself at the very highest level, just needed 50m meters in his sprint (a common theme for the Dutch this week).
  14. Very special evening for the Dutch! World champions in the 9.950m and 3x400m+1x350m!!
  15. Van Aanholt/Duetz in the womens skiff haven't reached their usual standard due to injury and apparently also a disqualification in one of the races yesterday. Glad to see they are at least back in top 10, after ending the day in 11th yesterday.
  16. Interesting that there are no French riders in the womens final at all when they are dominant on the mens side for years already.
  17. I just can never remember the classes/boats in sailing. I have in my head: Laser, 49er, 49erFx, 470, Nacra and then the windsurfing, foiling, kitesurfing feel like separate categories. But then sometimes they use other terms like skiff, dinghy and multihull like in this results system. Too much for my small brain If the results system shows Dutch medalists at the end of next week, they will be gladly forgiven however!
  18. Big news for the Memorial Ivo van Damme (Brussels Diamond League) and athletics fans: Bol and McLaughlin are both racing the 400mh! Their first race since the Oregon world championship I believe.
  19. Not a great keirin by Lavreysen. It's like he reacted to Richardson and Carlin and suddenly found himself in front and decided to keep going. 3 laps in front is just too much even for him.
  20. Yeah Lavreysen is one of my favorite athletes, but outside of the Olympics he tends to go a bit unnoticed. Track cycling isn't really relevant outside of world/European championships and the Olympics. I was hoping Hetty van der Wouw or Maike van der Duijn could maybe surprise with a medal (in an Olympics event), but with Van der Duijn falling today and Van der Wouw with the 12th time in Sprint qualification I don't see it happening.
  21. The madison is just too chaotic for my liking. Time for a clearcut event where 2 big muscular men ride three laps and Lavreysen crosses the finish line first.
  22. The elimination race "You are eliminated" announcement is one of my favorite sounds in sports. However nothing can beat BMX's "Riders ready. Watch the gates. Dududu!"
  23. After a chaotic race I believe Vincent Hoppezak finished 6th. Not a bad result at all. Him and Jan-Willem van Schip are competing for a single Olympic ticket alongside Yoeri Havik in de madison/omnium. Will be interesting if Havik/Van Havik can do better than 6th in the madison later this week.
  24. It's crazy how all these made up teams keep getting decent results in championships and the world tour as well. There is definitely a talented bunch of beach volleyball players in the Dutch men squad, but especially Boermans/de Groot and Varenhorst/Van de Velde are cursed with injuries and Luini/Immers just keep filling in various holes in the squad.
