  1. At the 5.2km mark, Wellbrock leads with Rasovszky second and Olivier third. Five others are closing the gap while everyone else is falling off the pace.
  2. Wellbrock gets absorbed by Olivier/Rasovszky, the three are now together
  3. Unless the rest of the field picks things up (or one of them gets gassed) we may have our top three. Fourth place is over 20 seconds behind Olivier/Rasovszky, not an insurmountable lead.
  4. Canada picks up its fourth gold on Day 12. Day 13 could be another good day with medal chances in athletics (men's decathlon), canoeing (women's C1 200m), cycling (women's keirin) and diving (women's 10m platform)
  5. It is for the best, even if it means I won't be able to watch it
  6. So any bets as to how many athletes will compete in the jump-off? I'm going to go with 6
  7. Overall Day 11 was not a good day for Canada, two fourths and a fifth plus both our beach volleyball teams lost. The main good thing was we have two athletes in the men's 200m final. For Day 12 we pretty much have the men's 200m in athletics as our best medal chance. We could also have a chance in the individual jumping in equestrian given how it is turning into a bit of a lottery.
  8. I wonder what he did to get under. Wipe off more sweat? Pee a little? Cut his hair?
  9. Honestly you can probably pick any three athletes and have a chance to be right. The balance beam was already a huge wildcard, now add all of these outside factors into the picture and it'll be an interesting final..
  10. Considering China is very likely to win gold in the remaining three diving and two table tennis events (plus they'll pick up a few more in other sports) the United States needs to pretty much have a favourable end to win the gold medal race.
  11. Overall no medals for Canada on Day 10, the first time since Day 1, but the 1-0 victory against the United States in women's football still made the day a success. Day 11 will likely be another quiet day with our best chance being in athletics (women's hammer throw). There's a chance in artistic gymnastics (women's balance beam) and maybe track cycling (men's and women's team pursuit) if they can recover from a bad qualification round.
  12. Basketball gets overhyped in Canada, but with that said, we should have been good enough to reach the quarter-finals.
  13. What a way to wake up. I knew the United States looked beatable, but to see it actually happen is another thing. Sweden has been the best team so far in this tournament so it will be a tough battle.
  14. They would all need to make the first jump without error and then fail three times at the next height then all agree not to have a jump-off. So technically yes, but you can bet that forced jump-offs would be a thing at future events.
  15. There's still a couple of chances remaining for Portugal in athletics with men's triple jump and women's discus throw, plus men's K1 1000m in canoeing
  16. The second best performance is counted I think for field events
  17. Most likely, our best chance would be in the men's 3000m steeplechase, but I wouldn't hold my breath. With the end of swimming Canada no longer has consistent chances each day
  18. Pan finishes the day with a -8 to move up to currently third overall
  19. Canada would really appreciate if Hungary can come back and win against China. A small chance against Hungary is much better than no chance against the United States. That or we need to score an upset against the Netherlands
  20. The 800m freestyle is like having the 3000m event in athletics so if there has to be cuts, it will likely be the first to go. In terms of competitiveness (as in the number of nations competing) the 400m IM is the least competitive individual event and could also be at risk. The 4x200m relay is also quite uncompetitive and may be removed. At best FINA could combine it to make it a mixed relay (and unlike athletics have a set order for male/female athletes) As for the medley relay, FINA needs to decide whether to have separate genders or a mixed event. Personally, there's enough competition to have it split, but you can't have both.
  21. Another good thing is if one sport lags for a while then others can compensate. I'm not sure what to think of the men (outside of athletics). It's not like they have been completely off the map, they have several top 8 finishes and it can't be a coincidence that they are having an off period in almost all of the sports.
  22. Yeah, a lot is going on for Canada on Day 9 with medal chances in artistic gymnastics (women's vault), athletics (men's high jump, men's 100m), diving (women's 3m springboard), sailing (women's laser) and swimming (women's 4x100m medley relay). Hoping for a multi-medal day. This will be the best chance for the men to get on the medal board.
